Adam Affleck's practice focuses on trial and appellate work involving bankruptcy, real estate, contracts, secured transaction, fraud, trade regulation and anti-trust.
His bankruptcy experience includes representation of creditors, trustees and debtors in all aspects of liquidation and reorganization proceedings. Mr. Affleck has published and lectured on topics concerning creditor's rights and bankruptcy.
Prior to joining Richards Brandt, Adam was a Shareholder for 18 years at Prince Yeates & Geldzahler.
Alex Westover joined Richard Brandt Miller Nelson's business law, construction, and real estate groups upon graduating from the Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark Law School. During law school, Alex served as an Executive Editor on the BYU Law Review and competed on the Moot Court National Team. Her practice focuses on corporate and real estate matters, including business formation, commercial transactions, compliance, women-owned small business certification, landlord/tenant disputes, property use and ownership, and general corporate and transactional law. Alex assists clients in a wide range of industries, including healthcare, hospitality, construction, development, property management, and others.

Barbara chairs the firm's Immigration Law practice group. She focuses primarily on family and employment immigration, as well as employment immigration compliance matters. She represents multi-national corporations, educational institutions, religious organizations, and employers on all immigration-related matters including inter-company transfers, temporary and permanent work visas, and investment visas.
Barbara is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

Bobby is the practice chair for the Healthcare Law section at Richards Brandt. He has focused his legal career representing doctors, hospitals, physicians' assistants, nurses, and other healthcare providers in both Utah and Wyoming. He has devoted his career to the healthcare industry.
Bobby sat as a Small Claims Court Judge for the Third Circuit Court, State of Utah, Salt Lake County, Murray Division. He was also appointed by the Utah Supreme Court to sit as a member of the Utah Ethics and Discipline Screening Panel from 1993 to 1996.

Cathy has served as General Counsel for two international corporations for nearly 30 years in the oilfield services and industrial manufacturing and construction industries. She is now applying her knowledge to counsel small businesses from startup to sale (and everything in between) with the ultimate goal of achieving company profitability while minimizing risk. Cathy can help business owners set up the proper business entity, draft the entity's governing documents as well as third-party contracts to enable business owners to achieve their goals while limiting liability. She has drafted and negotiated numerous of types of commercial business contracts such as terms and conditions of sale/purchase; commercial leases; rep and distributorship agreements; vendor and independent contractor agreements; severance and employment agreements; contractor and subcontractor agreements; and so much more. Cathy also represents clients who are buying or selling businesses and has handled dozens of the these transactions. Her clients own a wide range of businesses in dozens of industries.
Christine's practice areas include immigration and family law. As part of her immigration practice, she represents clients seeking family-based visas, asylum, U-visas, VAWA, and other immigration benefits. She also represents clients facing removal proceedings and other complex immigration and criminal matters. Christine also handles divorce, custody, and guardianship cases relating to special immigrant juveniles.

Cody's practice focuses on litigation and appeals. He represents his clients in civil litigation at both the state and federal level, as well as before Utah's administrative agency in workers' compensation claims. He is a member of the firm's Workers Compensation practice group. In his appellate practice, Cody has briefed and argued numerous appeals before the Utah Court of Appeals, Utah Supreme Court, and 10 th Circuit. Cody focuses on achieving favorable outcomes for his clients in the most efficient manner possible, whether by early settlement or aggressive representation at trial or on appeal.

Craig counsels and represents design professionals, owners, developers, contractors, and subcontractors in design/construction matters. Throughout his career he has focused on risk management, dispute resolution, and government affairs. Craig has maintained an active commercial/construction mediation & arbitration practice since 1985 and is the practice chair for the Construction Industry Group and Charitable Foundation at Richards Brandt.

David specializes in representing employers and insurance carriers in the defense and resolution of workers' compensation claims. He has successfully litigated numerous complex workers' compensation industrial accidents and occupational disease claims before the Utah Labor Commission and the Utah Court of Appeals.
David is also a successful composer and pianist, he has released nine instrumental piano albums which have received national and international distribution.

Lincoln's practice covers a wide range of dispute resolution and litigation matters within the areas of family law and construction law. He has several years of experience and an excellent record representing his clients in mediation and arbitration.
Lincoln has a keen interest in local government and stays current on the legislative issues facing his clients. After completing law school, he practiced law for several years in Kentucky and worked for the Appalachian Education and Defense Fund.
Lincoln is Chair of the Family Law and Construction Law practice groups.
Lori specializes in workers' compensation defense, representing employers and insurance carriers before the Labor Commission and Utah appellate courts. Her 16 years of experience in workers' compensation litigation along with her experience working for Workers Compensation Fund as a claims adjuster and in-house counsel, has provided her with unparalleled perspective into her practice.
Lynn is a prominent trial attorney, having successfully tried over 140 cases to juries as lead counsel. He works primarily in the areas of personal injury, business litigation, and insurance. His current practice involves large litigation cases in the diverse fields of products liability, health care, insurance, business and personal injury. His practice includes representation of both defendants and plaintiffs; accepting plaintiff's cases of $100,000 or more.

Mark R. Sumsion is a shareholder in the law firm of Richards Brandt Miller Nelson. He received his B.S. degree in Business Management with an emphasis in International Marketing and Japanese from Brigham Young University in 1995, cum laude, and his J.D. degree from BYU in 1998, cum laude. Mr. Sumsion's primary area of practice is workers' compensation. Due to the nature of that work, his practice also involves significant appellate work. Prior to joining Richards Brandt Miller Nelson, Mr. Sumsion worked for a workers' compensation applicant's attorney as a law clerk/associate for three years, giving him a broad perspective on workers' compensation claims. During that time, Mr. Sumsion also mediated numerous employment claims for the UALD regarding claims over wage, sexual harassment and other forms of discrimination. Mr. Sumsion has presented at numerous seminars on various topics concerning workers' compensation. As part of his undergraduate studies, Mr. Sumsion worked for Nippon Polaroid assisting with the marketing and profitability analysis of promotional merchandise.
Matt has litigated a wide variety of commercial cases at the trial and appellate levels, including corporate and LLC disputes, business contracts, receivership estates, trust & estate litigation, property use and ownership, real estate broker/agent liability, and tax issues. He has been appointed as a receiver and has also represented parties with claims in receivership cases. Matt has represented many of his clients in mediations as well as several arbitrations.

Mike is the practice chair for the firm's Family Law section. He focuses on complex and interstate custody issues, high net-income divorces, prominent and public-figure family disputes, and complicated legal issues facing families today including drafting and modifying agreements.
He has over 30 years of jury and non-jury trial experience and has appeared, argued, or tried cases in state and federal courts in Utah, California, Wyoming, Nevada, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Tennessee. In addition, he is a skilled mediator with hundreds of successful outcomes.

Rafael practices in several areas of insurance law, defending insurance companies and their insureds across automobile, homeowner's, commercial auto, and property. He has experience in bad faith litigation, complex tort litigation, and coverage issues. He also practices in the areas of business and commercial litigation and personal injury litigation.
Rafael is past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and past member of the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross, Salt Lake Chapter.

Steven is an experienced litigator with more than twenty years of experience representing a diverse set of clients in product liability matters, commercial disputes, antitrust matters, contract disputes, real estate and eminent domain proceedings, corporate governance disputes, intellectual property disputes, and civil appeals. His clients include high tech companies, manufacturers, distributors, financial institutions, insurance companies, real estate and business investors, small businesses, and professionals. Steven has tried cases and represented clients in state and federal courts across the United States at the trial court and appellate court level. Steven has also represented clients in arbitration proceedings and other alternative dispute resolution proceedings and in administrative compliance proceedings and actions.
