Carol Gaskin

Carol Gaskin joined RF Merchant Bank & Trust (Barbados) Limited in 2010 as an Assistant Manager and in 2012 she was promoted to the post of Manager - Trust & Corporate Services. She held several positions in administration and management in the banking sector and has enjoyed a successful career in the offshore business. During the period 1998 to 1999, she was a Manager in the Corporate Division of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Subsequent to this, she spent a number of years working as a Senior Trust Officer at CIBC where she gained invaluable knowledge and experience in Trust & Estate Management. In 2007, she graduated as an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators in the UK. Carol Gaskin is a member of the Sunjet Toastmasters' Club and her motto is "defeat is falling down and not getting back up".

David Smailes - CIO, VP

Mr. Smailes is a seasoned technology leader with a strong transformational mindset. He has over thirty years of experience in delivering solutions to the financial services industry and is well versed in the regulatory and technological issues facing the financial service industries. Mr. Smailes will lead RF's strategic technology transformation and be responsible for the Group's digital strategy, infrastructure and software development. Mr. Smailes held numerous CIO positions with multi-national organizations. He holds a Masters degree in Information Systems Design and Management and has completed multiple training courses including most recently the University of Oxford Fintech Programme.

David Van Onselen

David has been in the financial services industry for 20 years. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Science and a diploma in Wealth Management from the University of Natal, South Africa. Much of David's working career was with Discovery Holdings in both their South Africa and UK offices. In his role as the National Head of Sales and Distribution, he introduced and implemented a unique franchise model to the UK market. He eventually bought a Discovery franchise in 2008 and was the key individual for Discovery Consulting Services in Johannesburg. One of his major career accomplishments was building a broker/advisory network of over 230 brokerages that won numerous CEO and top franchise awards. David specializes in sales and distribution and is excited about the prospect of growing RF's footprint across the Caribbean. In his leisure time, he works on his golf handicap and spends quality time with his wife and three kids.

Graham Marshall

Graham Marshall is the Securities Investment Advisor at RF Merchant Bank & Trust (Barbados) Ltd. He has been employed with the company for over 6 years and is knowledgeable about market trends. He is a 30 year + veteran of the Fidelity Group, having started his career with the company as Vice President, CFO and Company Secretary of Fidelity's Cayman based banking and insurance brokerage operations in 1987. He was appointed as Vice President and CFO of the Fidelity Group in 1995 and co-led the 1995 MBO by Fidelity of British American Holdings Ltd.'s banking operations. Prior to joining the Fidelity Group, Michael spent six year working for PriceWaterhouseCoopers in both South Africa and the Cayman Islands. He has a wealth of experience in investment and retail banking services within the Caribbean having had oversight of businesses in The Bahamas, Cayman, Turks & Caicos and Barbados during his career. Michael earned his dual Bachelor's degrees at the University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg, S.A.) in Commerce & Accountancy, holds the CA (S.A) Designation and is a member of the South African Society of Chartered Accountants.

Nicholas Freeland

Formerly the territory senior partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) Grand Cayman from 2004 to 2011, Mr. Freeland retired in June 2011 after over 30 years with the firm. His extensive expertise in international banking, trust, family office, and investment management is highlighted by his pivotal roles in serving high-profile clients in the Bahamas and Grand Cayman offices. A fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, Mr. Freeland is currently the Director of Fidelity Bank & Trust International Limited and its subsidiary bank in The Bahamas. He is also Chairman of Vanguard Risk Solutions Limited in Cayman and a member of the Council of the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange. In addition to this, Mr. Freeland has a history of leadership, having served as the former Chairman of the Central Tenders Committee in the Cayman Islands, a Director of the Cayman Public Services Pension Board, and as the past President of both the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants and the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman.

Qualification: Bachelor's Degree in Economics Mr. McDonald served 35 years with Royal Bank of Canada ("RBC") retiring as Senior Vice President & Head of Caribbean Banking. From 2001 until his retirement in 2011, Mr. McDonald led RBC's commercial and retail banking operations throughout the Caribbean. He was instrumental in the acquisition of RBTT, which expanded RBC's operations to 19 countries and territories across the region. Mr. McDonald is currently a director of RBC Royal Bank (Bahamas) Limited, RBC's commercial bank in the Bahamas and RBC FINCO, which is a publicly listed company and operates as RBC's mortgage banking company in the Bahamas. He is Chairman of the Board of Cable Bahamas Limited, the country's premier cable and internet provider and a director of BeAliv Limited, the fastest growing mobile provider in the Bahamas. He is also a director of Bahamas Petroleum Company Plc, an Aim listed public company, formed to invest in an offshore oil exploration programme in the territorial waters of The Bahamas. Mr. McDonald received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Vermont and a Master of Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business.

Tya is an active member of the Barbados Association of Compliance Professionals (BACP), and has currently taken a position on its Training Committee.
