Delton "Buck" Ashcraft

Former Moores Hill resident, Delton "Buck" Ashcraft passed away last Fall, September 22, 2023, in his home in Phoenix, AZ at the age of eighty-four with funeral services held in Phoenix. However, since he was born, raised, and lived most of his life in Moores Hill, Indiana, the family is hosting a Celebration of Life Service for family and friends in this area on Saturday, May 4, at the South Sparta Community Church 13975 W County Line Rd. Moores Hill, IN, The visitation will be from 1p - 2p and the service will begin at 2p. Rev. Tom Holt will preside. Delton "Buck" served the community as Milan Cub Scout Cubmaster, Laughery Valley District Cub Scout Commissioner, Scout Master of the Moores Hill Boy Scout troop, and a Ripley Co 4-H Program Leader. He was a believer in Jesus Christ, well known as a hardworking man and always took time to help others. He left behind his wife, Beverly; two daughters, Tammy and Tawna, three boys, Robert, Troy, and Shane; sister, Caroline Manford; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Ashcraft. Preceded in death by his parents, Otho and Maude; four brothers, Kenneth, Elmer, Paul, and Leslie Ashcraft; and five sisters, Inez Hoffmeyer, Lois Cottingham, Kathryn Hollin, Patricia Bockhorst and Janet Hedrick.

Myrtle Conover

Myrtle Conover, 76, of Rexville passed away at 9:45 p.m., Friday, January 11, 2019 at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. She was born near Bryantsburg in Jefferson County on August 21, 1942, the daughter of James Cecil and Alta Banks Campbell. She was married to Alva Conover on November 17, 1963 and he preceded her in death on June 26, 1997. Survivors include one son Lee (Anna) Conover of Hanover; two daughters Twila (Thomas Goeft) Hammond of Versailles, and Monica (Phillip) Durham of Milton, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother James Campbell of Salem; one sister Mary (Richard) Black of Cross Plains. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Conover was a 1960 graduate of New Marion High School and was a cheerleader for the Panther basketball team. She was a former employee of Western Union in Madison and also the Versailles State Park. She retired as a supervisor in 2002 after 40 years with Reliance Electric at Madison. Myrtle enjoyed playing euchre, dominoes, and board games with her grandchildren. She also spent her time doing puzzles, crocheting, and enjoyed mowing her yard. Myrtle was a long time member of the Shelby Christian Church.

Reed Thompson

Reed Thompson, 66, of Savannah, GA formerly of Milan passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, GA. Reed was born Thursday, April 24, 1952. His parents were T.W. (Bill) and Mary Gray (Thompson) Thompson. He married Appie Schaefer and she survives. Reed worked at the Milan Furniture Factory as a teenager, and the Versailles State Park. He later was a heavy equipment operator and then owned and operated Thompson's Auto Parts in the 70's. He then was a manufacture sales representative selling hardware to furniture factories. He then owned the Milan Video Store and later was co-owner with Gary Anderson of Thompson Hardwoods in Milan. He also built Industrial Hardwoods in Osgood. He enjoyed spending time with his family the most, other hobbies included open wheel racing - the Indy 500, trains and watching football. He coached football for 17 years, starting with the peewee league, then Jr. High football and finally High School football. He was the offensive line-coach for the 1996 Milan High School team that went to the semi-state. He always had a funny story for any occasion. Reed is survived by wife Appie; sons, Tony (Catherine) Thompson of CA., Tommy Thompson of SC., Andy (Holly) Thompson of GA., and Michael (Kali) Thompson of MN.; sister, Nancy (Eric) Glaser; niece, Alexa; two grandchildren Emerson and Willa, and a host of friends. A service celebrating his life was held Sunday, January 20 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Pastor Harris Long officiating. Memorials may be given in honor of Reed to Milan Council of Churches Christmas Project or Milan High School Football. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
