Robert was a member of the 1988 and 1992 United States Olympic fencing teams, which competed in Seoul, Korea and Barcelona, Spain respectively. He was also the 1990 United States National Sabre Champion and the 1988 NCAA individual Sabre champion. Robert is a four-time All American and All-Ivy fencer and was captain of two of Columbia's NCAA championship teams in 1987 and 1988.
Robert is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Peter Westbrook Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of New York City's youth through the sport of fencing. In the summer of 2008 two of the Foundation's students won silver medals at the Games in Beijing.
Robert is a Graduate of the Rutgers School of Law, and received his bachelor's degree from Columbia College of Columbia University in The City of New York in 1988.
