The interdisciplinary approach of the SFB 635 is to investigate posttranslational control mechanisms. Therefore the SFB 635 brings together research groups employing genetic, cell biological, biochemical and structure biological methods in evolutionarily diverse model organisms, including eubacteria, yeast, Drosophila, Arabidopsis and mice. Research within the SFB 635 focuses on the analysis of three regulatory principles which determine protein function: Research area A: the covalent modification of proteins, Research area B: dynamic protein assemblies, Research area C: the regulated degradation of proteins... The SFB 635 is organized into 18 scientific and 2 central projects and tightly connects groups from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne as well as groups from the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research and Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing.
