After getting started in high school running sound for his father, George enrolled at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music where he became their Chief Engineer after only two years. In 1967, he and John N. Hall decided to start a broadcasting company which they named Smithall. Realizing his talent for sound and lighting, George bought out John two years later and Smithall was renamed Smithall Electronics, Inc. During the 70's, Smithall Electronics was responsible for the sound systems of many of the major disco clubs nationwide, including the famous Studio 54. All of these clubs had sound systems designed by George, and most of them had the lit dance floors for which he held the patent. Throughout all of this time, George remained on as a faculty member at CCM, eventually earning his BFA in 1977. As the disco craze ended, George turned his attention to cruise ships, and is known world wide for his design and installation work on ships for NCL, RCCL, Commodore,..
