As a senior researcher, Ana is primarily responsible for creating research designs, making instruments, leading the data collection, conducting data analyses, and producing research outputs. She has been involved in various studies on women and poverty, community empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, entrepreneurship, food and agriculture, as well as sanitation and clean water. Her research interests include community development, gender, and strategic management. Ana is well versed on the subject of community development. She led the "Poverty Analysis in Kabupaten Pangkep" and "Youth Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in Indonesia" studies. Ana is also the qualitative coordinator of the longitudinal study of poor women's access to public services in five thematic areas: (i) increasing access to social protection programs; (ii) improving conditions of employment and removing workplace discrimination; (iii) improving conditions for women's overseas labor migration; (iv) improving women's health and nutrition; and (v) reducing violence against women. This study was aimed at exploring the changes in poor women's access to public services by looking at two sides, namely the availability of the services and poor women's behavior in accessing those services. The study was conducted as a partnership between The SMERU Research Institute and the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (MAMPU).

Rahmi is a junior quantitative researcher for the RISE Programme in Indonesia. She is tasked with studying the impact of education policies in specified districts in Indonesia, and works closely with local governments to design, evaluate, and adapt their education policies to more effectively improve the quality of education. Rahmi's research interests also include poverty and inequality. Prior to joining SMERU, Rahmi was an evaluation staff of the Directorate for Monitoring, Evaluating, and Controlling of Regional Development at Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas). She also completed her internship at CSIS Indonesia and worked as a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Padjadjaran.

She is responsible for the development and implementation of SMERU's outreach initiatives with varying timelines, budgets, and funders. Her role includes strengthening the organization's partnerships with government offices, funders, as well as nongovernmental organizations. Athia has more than eleven years of experience working in the development sector and conducting applied economic research in the areas of poverty, inequality, social protection, health economics, and development economics. Her work has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Economic Development and Cultural Change, Health Policy and Planning, and Health Economics. Prior to joining SMERU, Athia worked as an economic analyst and a research assistant.

Her work addresses crosscutting policy and governance issues involving complex interactions among diverse actors and institutions...Expand » As SMERU's Institute Secretary, Heni focuses on linking research to policy to build stakeholder engagement and support interlinked institutions, formally and informally. Her work addresses crosscutting policy and governance issues involving complex interactions among diverse actors and institutions at multiple levels: the government, NGOs, academics, communities, and international development agencies. She has intensively worked on developing collaborations between independent research organizations and policymakers. She has closely engaged with policymakers at national, provincial, and district levels through projects, such as Regional Development Forum. She is currently tasked with building connections between SMERU and international stakeholders through various activities of Task Force 5 of Think20 (T20) on Inequality, Human Capital, and Well-Being. She is also leading the capacity building program for a young generation of researchers through SMERU's internship program, in cooperation with various universities in Indonesia and other countries. In her role as Institute Secretary, she oversees staff working on developing a knowledge management system, as well as communication and partnership officers. Prior to becoming Institute Secretary, Heni was a consultant and a senior researcher for SMERU. She led the design and development of a five-year research project, namely the Research on Improving Systems of Education (RISE) in Indonesia, and Australia-Indonesia Governance Research Partnership (AIGRP) managed by Crawford School of Economic & Governance of the Australian National University (ANU). She also worked as a journalist working on economic and environmental issues at a reputable weekly news magazine. Heni is also a social scientist and policy analyst specializing in systems of innovation, and environmental policy and governance with 20 years of work experience, including in program management. She is interested in emerging social, economic, political economic, and ecological transitions to sustainability in the Asia-Pacific Region. Her research focuses on broad issues of development and poverty reduction, with areas of research related to social forestry, agriculture, water privatization, and education. Heni is also a member of a global network of Women in Think Tanks. Heni has written articles in international journals and presented in international conferences on education, ecosystem management, and climate change. She was also invited as a guest lecturer on ecosystem management and society, and was affiliated with a project on youth and agriculture in the University of Melbourne, Australia. She was also a guest lecturer on public administration at Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia.

Prior to joining SMERU, Lia was a project associate/data system analyst at Chapin Hall, an independent policy research center at the University of Chicago. At Chapin Hall, she performed data analysis, data management, and quantitative research in various areas, including education, criminal and juvenile justice, public health, early childhood programs, and child welfare systems. Previously, she worked at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University as a research assistant at the cardiology unit to study the collaboration among hospital providers in terms of patient outcomes. Most of Sulton's works are monitoring and evaluation of the impact of severe economic crises, including the 1997 Asian financial crisis and the 2008 global financial crisis. Sulton has worked on studies that examined the implementation as well as effectiveness of government programs aimed at reducing poverty. He was part of the research team that developed the white paper of poverty reduction, the Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia's Poverty Reduction (MP3KI). Much of his current research focuses on rural development, community development, sustainable livelihoods, and inclusive economic development. Prior to joining SMERU, Sulton worked as a researcher for the Centre for Policy and Implementation Studies (CPIS).
