SOTERA - Key Persons
Amalie has a Bachelor of Engineering, Fire Safety from the Western Norway University of Applied Science, and substantial experience working as a Fire Consultant with a focus on residential and commercial buildings.
Andrei joined Sotera in January 2022 as a Fire Safety Engineer and is positioned at our Brisbane office. Andrei was a recipient of the Erasmus+ scholarship and holds an International Masters in Fire Safety Engineering (Magna Cum Laude) as well as a PhD specialising in Technical Sciences and Structural Engineering. He started his career as a fire engineer in 2019 in Singapore. His extensive experience in the building industry makes him a great addition to the Sotera team. Andrei specialises in the Performance-Based Design of buildings and objects of infrastructure, including the design of Smoke Control Systems.
Dr Paul Clancy established Sotera on Queensland's Gold Coast in 2007 and since that time has worked to make it one of the most highly regarded fire engineering firms in the state. Dr Clancy was involved in the introduction of performance-based fire engineering to Australia. His vast experience includes co-ordinating one of the first fire code reform projects in 1990 (The Draft National Building Fire Safety Systems Code).
The business he created, Sotera, has expanded to now encompass eight engineers across two offices, working as a team, with Dr Clancy continuing in the role of managing director.
Paul is the managing director of Sotera. His experience includes being a significant contributor to the introduction of fire engineering into the country. He was the coordinator for one of the first code reform projects in 1990 - The Draft National Building Fire Safety Systems Code. He participated in the development of rationale for fire engineering from the beginning when virtually no rationale existed to current practices. Paul has experienced projects where change can be made despite resistance. Paul has worked and collaborated with a number of consultants and research organisations in areas that include fire severity, heat transfer, structural response and risk.
Jacob joined the Sotera team in December 2022 as a Fire Safety Engineer and is based in our Brisbane office. He has a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Second Class Honours, majoring in mechanical engineering. Jacob has been working in fire engineering for 4 years and brings with him significant experience in both fire safety engineering and computational modelling with a keen interest in innovative computer modelling performance-based solutions. Jacob brings a broad knowledge of fire safety issues having worked on projects covering a wide variety of sectors and scales ranging from large hospital redevelopments to small commercial fit-outs.

Mariangeles joined Sotera in 2022 as an administrative assistant. After less than one year she has been accepted for a new role as Contract Administrator. Prior to this she worked as a legal analyst in Argentina after graduating with a Bachelor of Laws.
In 2023 Oliver has finished his Bachelor from The University of Queensland receiving a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and Science majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Physics. In less than one year as a Trainee at Sotera, he became an invaluable asset to the team.
