In December 2023, Daniel C. Waslawski re-joined the Starr, Butler & Stoner, PLLC law firm as a partner. Mr. Waslawski originally joined the firm as an associate in 2014. He left the Starr Butler firm after three years to join a national law firm.
Frances J. Hollander, an associate with Starr, Butler & Stoner, PLLC, focuses her practice on the defense of employment claims, representing employers against discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims. She also practices in the areas of commercial litigation, professional liability and general litigation.
Frances received her law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 2017. During law school, she worked for Family Law Project, a non-profit serving low-income survivors of domestic violence in Washtenaw County, as a student attorney and project coordinator. She also interned for the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office in the Domestic Violence Unit and externed for the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office in the Criminal Sexual Conduct Unit. Frances also worked fin the law school's human trafficking clinic, volunteered for the Civil Rights Litigation Clearinghouse, and was a member of the Michigan Journal of Law Reform. She received her undergraduate degree, a B.A. in linguistics, from the University of Michigan in 2013. After law school, Frances worked for the Michigan Court of Appeals. Most recently, she worked for an Ann Arbor litigation firm as a plaintiff-side employment law litigator.

Janice L. Sterling concentrates her practice on all aspects of employment law, education law and litigation. Ms. Sterling has extensive experience in counseling businesses on all aspects of employment law. Whether a business needs a separation agreement drafted, a handbook reviewed, or just has questions about every day employment issues or laws, Ms. Sterling provides valuable counseling assistance to her business clients.
Ms. Sterling also has broad administrative law experience representing businesses in front of such agencies as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Michigan Department of Civil Rights, the Office of Civil Rights, Department of Labor, Internal Revenue Service and Unemployment Insurance Agency. Further, Ms. Sterling brings solid litigation experience to her business clients when they are faced with a lawsuit brought by private parties or governmental agencies.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Ms. Sterling worked in the human resources field, in both a union and a non-union environment. Her work experience in HR brings a real world business perspective to all of her business clients.
After law school, Ms. Sterling worked for eight years at the Bloomington, Indiana law firm of Mallor Clendening Grodner & Bohrer where she focused her law practice on employment matters. After moving to Michigan, Ms. Sterling opened a boutique employment law firm to continue to provide legal services to her Indiana clients.
Ms. Sterling graduated with Honors, Order of the Coif, from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois. She received her BA, summa cum laude, in English and Mathematics from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, IL.

Ms. Butler is an experienced litigator who relies on her extensive legal experience in defending employers in state and federal court actions, including ERISA lawsuits and sex, race, age, and handicap discrimination claims, wrongful discharge claims, breach of fiduciary duty, minority shareholder oppression, and related tort claims. In addition, she has created and revised employment documents, including handbooks, applications, sexual harassment policies, and drug testing and absenteeism policies. She has also conducted workshops on employment-related topics such as harassment investigations, violence in the workplace, and hiring and firing issues.
Ms. Butler's impressive professional portfolio was presaged by her outstanding academic achievements. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1983 from Michigan State University and her Juris Doctor degree from Michigan State University College of Law, graduating summa cum laude in 1988. While attending law school, she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review and was a member of the Robert F. Wagner National Labor Law Team and the National Moot Court Team.
