STUDIO A - Key Persons
Angela Mappin, Owner and Artistic Director of Studio A, hopes to instill a strong passion for dance in every student that comes through its doors. For nearly 30 years, Angela has been dancing and teaching all over the country. Growing up in Phoenix, Arizona where the dance possibilities were limitless, Angela was dancing professionally by the age of 13 performing with the Phoenix Symphony, opening for Donna Summer at the Super Bowl Owners Party, and numerous half time shows for the Phoenix Suns.
When her parents moved her to Bettendorf as a freshman in high school, Angela knew she wanted to bring something new and exciting to the Quad Cities. She was a dancer and choreographer for 3 State Championship routines for the Bettendorf High School Goldusters and National Champion Soloist at Symposium National Dance Competition. She was a 4 time All American and an Instructor for the National Dance Association for two years, traveling the country and teaching dance team camps to high schoolers.
After majoring in dance at the University of Illinois Champaign Urbana with a focus on ballet and modern, Angela moved to downtown Chicago where she studied with the Hubbard Street Dance Company, danced professionally in a small company, earned her Power Pilates certification, and was a top ten finalist for the Radio City Rockettes.
Since opening the studio in 2004, Angela has realized her true passion is choreography. She has received over 75 choreography awards for her work with the Studio A Competitive Company and is passionate about bringing new and exciting styles to her students. She strives to create well rounded dancers who are ready to enter the professional dance industry.
She is proud to have Studio A alumni dancing all over the country, College dance teams at Iowa State University and Vanderbilt University, Zenon Dance Company, The Dance Program at the University of Minnnesota, Young Americans, Legends in Concert, Princess Cruise Lines, and "America's Got Talent", are just to name a few.
Angela could not be prouder of her dancers and faculty at Studio A. She feels incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to touch so many children with her love of dance and looks forward to many more years of incredible experiences!
