Born in Houston, Texas, Rebecca moved with her family to Southeast Asia at the age of three months... She grew up in Thailand, attended British and International boarding schools in Malaysia until returning to the U.S. to live and begin university studies. She attended Texas Woman's University, with a full scholarship, and graduated with honors, receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing in 1982.
