Andrew Taylor

Andrew grew up on a dairy farm south of Dunedin and always wanted to work with the land. Seeking a career which would balance indoor and outdoor work, Andrew studied Surveying at the nearby Otago University. On completion of University, Andrew worked in Dunedin for almost ten years before moving north to Hawke's Bay in 1998. Through his work Andrew has developed interests in land law, Resource Management Planning, sustainable development, Maori land and urban design. These, combined with an overarching respect for the land, assist Andrew to carry out his roles of project scoping, subdivision design, resource consent works and client, consultant, Council and Iwi liaison. Andrew now spends little of his work time outside but gets the occasional fresh air fix through site planning and project scoping. Rugby, hunting and fishing have been replaced by growing native trees and walking the hills, rivers and beaches with his kids while away from work.

Andy Marshall

Andy joined Surveying The Bay mid 2021, his first year out of Central Hawkes Bay College and has completed 2 years of studying for his Diploma in Surveying. Born and breed in Waipukurau, and still living here he enjoys hunting, fishing, and rugby, having played for the Onga-Tiko colts over the last 2 seasons.

Guy Panckhurst

Guy is a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor with twenty years surveying experience. He was born and bred in Dunedin and has worked in various locations around the world such as England, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. He has also worked in Taupo and Hawke's Bay (since 2001). Guy works out of the Napier office, and performs project management, resource consent and land development engineering work, primarily between Hastings and northern Hawke's Bay. Guy is a member of the Management Committee of the Consulting Surveyors of New Zealand (CSNZ), a branch of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors. The Management Committee meet quarterly, and Guy enjoys interacting with experienced members of CSNZ on a professional and personal basis. He has a particular interest in building enduring developments that improve the use of land, and believes good urban design and sustainable development are essential for the wellbeing of our communities and future generations.

Hamish MacLean

Job Titles:

Coming from a Hawkes Bay farming background, and enjoying an outdoor lifestyle, surveying seemed a natural choice for Hamish. He joined Surveying The Bay as a graduate, having previously spent university holidays as part of the team. Hamish completed his Bachelor of Surveying degree at the University of Otago, and became a fully qualified Licensed Cadastral Surveyor in 2012. Hamish's label is "Staff Surveyor" - he oversees coordination of field and office works to ensure the team is work efficiently.

Hugo Rittson-Thomas

Hugo joined the team at Surveying the Bay in 2017 having previously worked here during his university holidays. On completing his Bachelor of Surveying Degree he worked overseas as a Surveyor in Australia's underground coal mines before moving to London and working on a variety of surveying/engineering projects. Growing up on a Central Hawke's Bay farm Hugo enjoys the outdoors, a variety of sports plus travelling.

Jevon Flatt

After Jevon graduated from Otago University with his Bachelor of Surveying in 2013 he worked in Christchurch on a wide range of post earthquake projects until he set off on his OE in 2017. During this time he worked as an Engineering Surveyor in London for 3 years before returning home to Taradale, Napier in 2020 where he took up a position with Surveying the Bay. He is now a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor. In what spare time Jevon has he likes to spend it mountain biking and trying to surf.

Mika Tevita

Job Titles:
  • Survey Technician
Mika and his family are now well settled in Hawke's Bay, having originally joined Surveying The Bay from Fiji. He is an experienced survey technician who had been surveying throughout Fiji for over ten years. A keen sportsman, and Rugby player at Representative level, Mika is now teaching his own children to participate in school sports and enjoy an active life.

Peter Taunton

  • Land Information / CAD Specialist
Our Land Information/CAD Specialist is a product of "Lands & Survey", and has subsequently specialised in Computer Aided Draughting and Land Information. Peter utilises high quality digital data from various sources, and produces high quality, large format plans with aerial photography as a backdrop. Peter controls all plan production work for Surveying The Bay, and is the company's IT Manager & Landonline expert. He enjoys playing squash, biking and walking to keep fit. Peter also has a great interest in Genealogy and past member of a Rotary Club.

Sam Hartree

Sam was born in Napier and raised on a sheep and beef farm near Puketitiri. Coming from a remote part of Hawke's Bay, Sam is a keen hunter, fisherman and tramper. Sam spent University holidays working for Surveying the Bay and joined the team in 2014 as a graduate. Sam graduated from Otago University at the end of 2013 with a Bachelor of Surveying Degree. He is now a qualified Licensed Cadastral Surveyor.

Scott Fergusson

Job Titles:
  • Survey Technician
Scott is Hawke's Bay born and bred and has been working in the Surveying Industry since 1994, both here in the Bay and also in London and around the UK. He joined Surveying the Bay in May 2013 as one of our more experienced surveyors. Scott's passion is topographical survey work, an area where he has developed extremely efficient field and office procedures and is producing some of the best survey data in Hawke's Bay, both in terms of meeting the needs of the end users and in particular, the standard of presentation. Scott is a keen sportsman having played representative Age Grade Rugby and Indoor Netball for Hawke's Bay. He is currently a competitive Squash player graded C1, and was the 2012 NZ Masters C2 division Champion. He also has a new passion for playing darts.

Stephanie Gilbert

Stephanie Gilbert has a PH.D in Medical Science and a B.Sc. in Bacteriology, both from Edinburgh University, Scotland. Between these considerable achievements lies a wealth of experience and other educational qualifications, including papers in Business Management from Massey University. Stephanie has a young family, has been involved in sport to National Championship level, and has worked extensively for the Hastings District Council in the field of Sport and Recreation. Stephanie's talents are now utilised in the fields of Planning and Resource Management, and she is employed as a planning assistant.

Theresa Anderson

Theresa is responsible for the day to day running and administration of the Company. She has worked in a variety of administrative roles previously and is the person you will likely speak to first at Surveying The Bay. Having returned to Hawke's Bay with her family after several years in Gisborne she is enjoying the vast array of activities and events on offer.
