In addition, SUPREME-DM conducted two comparative effectiveness research (CER) studies: a trial to evaluate the effectiveness of brief counseling on "early non-adherence" with newly prescribed medications; and an observational study of women with recent gestational diabetes to understand the effectiveness of various communication, counseling, and referral strategies. Patient-reported and natural language processing (NLP)-derived measures were also examined as potential mediators or modifiers of treatment effectiveness in both CER studies.
