Adrian Peters

Adrian Peters is a senior technology risk executive with over 25 years of technology and cyber security expertise, working across various sectors, from Global Fortune 500's to early-stage security technology companies. He currently serves as the CISO for Vista Equity Partners, sharing both responsibilities of partnering with the deal teams in Technology investments, as well as protecting the intellectual property and its shareholders. Before Vista, he served as Global Chief Technology Risk Officer at BNY Mellon where he built the Enterprise Technology risk practices globally across 42 countries. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, he was charged with oversight of all aspects of Technology (cyber to resiliency) risk providing independent Technology risk assurance to the Executive Committee and Board, and establishing the organization's response, and execution of a risk-based Technology strategy. Before BNY Mellon he served as the CISO at Bridgewater Associates, hired by the Management Committee to create and execute building a world-class cyber security program. Transforming a small team to a world-class security organization. His most recent tenor prior to Bridgewater he ran Neohapsis which today is owned by Cisco. Neohapsis is a well-established Information Risk Management and deep technical cyber consultancy that was at the forefront of pioneering in-depth advanced penetration testing and application assessment techniques. Adrian is also a strong believer in building and advancing the cyber community as a whole and is a key participant in the industry and community to advance the Information Security and Assurance landscape, serving on boards of cyber and privacy non for profits and communities.

Art Coviello - CEO

Since stepping down from RSA in 2015 Art Coviello has been an active investor and advisor in the technology industry, guiding a number of startups as a private investor and in his roles as an advisor to SYN Ventures Security Fund, and as a senior advisor to Blackstone's Tactical Opportunities Group. From January 2001 Art served as President and CEO of RSA and following RSA's acquisition by EMC (for $2.1B) as an Executive Vice President of EMC and head of its Security Division. Mr. Coviello has been a central figure within the information security industry for more than 25 years. Under his leadership, he built RSA Conference into the most respected, vendor agnostic event in cybersecurity. He is frequently a featured presenter at conferences and forums around the world, and he has played key roles in several national cybersecurity initiatives. Prior to RSA, Mr. Coviello had extensive executive management experience in several technology companies. He started his career as a certified public accountant at Deloitte, Haskins & Sells (Deloitte). Mr. Coviello graduated magna cum laude from the University of Massachusetts in 1975 with a BBA, concentration in accounting.

Dan Burns

Dan Burns brings more than 28 years of business, technology and cyber security industry expertise. Most recently, Mr. Burns was the CEO and Co-founder of Optiv, which he created in 2015 with the merger of Accuvant and Fishnet Security. With that combination, the dominant cyber channel was created with over $2 billion in revenues. From 2002 when he co-founded Accuvant, until 2012 when he assumed his position as the company's first CEO, Mr. Burns served as SVP of Accuvant's sales organization. In that role, he was responsible for strategic planning, sales growth and problem resolution. Mr. Burns co-developed and helped to successfully execute on Accuvant's initial vision - to build a company with the breadth, depth and capabilities to address the information security needs of organizations worldwide. He launched the sales force and grew it to a national powerhouse organization within a 10-year period, conducting business with nearly half of the Fortune 500, and driving $740 million in revenue in 2014. Prior to his achievements with Accuvant, Mr. Burns was the regional VP of sales for the western region of OneSecure. He played an integral role in transitioning the organization from a managed security services (MSS) provider to a product company, delivering to the marketplace the first intrusion prevention system (IPS) and generating $40 million in product sales in the first year. Previously, as the western region Vice President for Exault, Burns secured some of the largest enterprise clients in the Rocky Mountain region and helped grow revenues to nearly $150 million in two years. He also held positions at Access Graphics, Arrowpoint, and Netrex. Mr. Burns graduated from San Jose State University with a B.A. in economics.

Dylan Posner

Dylan Posner is a Senior Associate on the investment team. He joined SYN as an Associate in March 2022. Prior to SYN Ventures, he was a Senior Analyst on AIG Asset Management's Direct Alternatives Investments team and was responsible for conducting diligence into venture, growth and buyout co-investment opportunities. Dylan served on deal teams that invested $400mm+ off AIG's balance sheet into a number of transactions. Dylan is also a Co-Chair of the Manhattan chapter of the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization that raises funds for groundbreaking research to eradicate childhood cancer. Dylan is proficient in Hebrew and holds a B.A. from Duke University, where he studied Political Science and Economics. Jay Leek - CEO, Founder

Jay Leek is a Managing Partner and Co-founder of SYN Ventures and ClearSky Security. Mr. Leek was formerly the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to The Blackstone Group L.P. (NYSE: BX) ("Blackstone") - where he also shared responsibility for identifying, structuring, evaluating, executing, and overseeing Blackstone Innovations' portfolio of information security investments. Prior to joining Blackstone in 2012, Mr. Leek established, built and headed up global information risk and security programs for Equifax and Nokia. Throughout the past 23+ years, Mr. Leek has also worked as a product manager for information security vendors as well as a consultant to numerous telecom companies, government agencies, and financial institutions, assisting them with business development, strategic planning and architectural design required to meet their information risk and security objectives. Mr. Leek holds a B.S. from Capella University in information assurance and security, and is a Certified Information Security Manager, Certified Information Systems Security Professional and Certified Information Systems Auditor.

John Watters

John Watters brings 35 years of investment and security experience. Currently, John serves as Mandiant's President and Chief Operating Officer. He has served in various roles with Mandiant and FireEye since iSIGHT Partners was acquired in 2016 including serving as Chairman of the FireEye Advisory Board from April 2020 to April 2021, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer from February 2018 to April 2020, Executive Vice President of Global Services and Intelligence from January 2017 to January 2018, and President of iSIGHT from January 2016 to January 2017. Prior to joining Mandiant, John served as founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of iSIGHT Partners from December 2006 to January 2016. From 2003 until its acquisition by Verisign in 2005, John was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of iDEFENSE, a security intelligence firm. Prior to entering the cyber security industry in 2003, John served in a variety of roles in the investment industry, including General Partner of several investment funds as President and CEO of Dorset Capital Corporation, an investment firm, since 1998. From 1994 to 1998, he served as founder, Chairman and CEO of EFO Holdings, a wealth management firm responsible for managing the investments of the Esping Family and several other wealthy families. He spent his first 6 years in the investment business in NYC, most recently as Vice President of Wealth Management at Bankers Trust. John is also the founder, director and President of the STAIRS Program, a non-profit organization supporting inner-city education, since 2000. John holds a B.S.C. degree in Finance from Santa Clara University and has served on dozens of corporate and non-profit board of directors.

Marcio Lempert

Marcio Lempert has over 25 years of experience leading and growing technology companies in Israel and the US. Marcio previously served as Managing Director of Finjan Security leading up to their acquisition by M86 Security. Post-acquisition, Marcio was SVP EMEA Sales and GM of Israel Operations until M86 was acquired by Trustwave. Prior to Finjan, Marcio led sales, marketing, and support for a number of startups and technology companies. Marcio has also served as an independent board advisor and mentor and was actively involved with Solebit Labs (acquired by Mimecast), Polyrize (acquired by Varonis), and Preempt Security (acquired by CrowdStrike). More recently, Marcio has been involved in a number of social businesses and non-profits. He led the Dualis Social Venture Fund as CEO and is involved in various forums that aim to promote impact-tech, which is the inclusion of SDG parameters alongside core financial KPIs. Marcio also teaches entrepreneurship at Reichman University in Israel.

Patrick Heim - CEO

Patrick Heim is a Managing Partner of the General Partner and the Investment Advisor. He is also a Partner and the Chief Information Security Officer of ClearSky Security. Mr. Heim is a senior security executive with over two decades of experience working in the security sector, spanning Fortune 500 enterprises, cloud providers as well as early-stage security technology companies. Prior to joining SYN Ventures, Mr. Heim was Head of Trust and Security at Dropbox. He also served as Senior Vice President and Chief Trust Officer at Salesforce.com. Mr. Heim has also held Chief Information Security Officer roles at Kaiser Permanente and McKesson Corporation. In the startup world he was Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at eNetSecure (a subsidiary of Applied Signal Technologies/Raytheon). Mr. Heim also has previously held senior positions at nCircle and Ernst & Young. Mr. Heim holds a B.S. from Indiana University in marketing as well as an M.B.A. from the University of South Carolina in international business/finance.

Pradeep Aswani

Pradeep Aswani is a Silicon Valley entrepreneur with a long history of building, advising, and investing in companies that successfully introduce disruptive, innovative ideas and technologies to the cybersecurity market. He is currently on the board of SecureDynamics and Mobilematics; a venture partner at SYN Ventures; and a member of CyberStarts, a founders-powered VC fund. He provides them the vast experience he gained from launching and managing Cloud Harmonics, Securematics, and VPN Dynamics (each was acquired by Ingram Micro), as well as his time as a founder and investor in HPN (whose IP was acquired by Juniper Networks), and as the co-founder and chief operating officer of OneSecure (acquired by NetScreen). He continues to invest in cutting edge cybersecurity companies, including Palo Alto Networks (PANW), Sentinel One (S), Awake Networks (acquired by Arista Networks - ANET), Preempt Networks (acquired by Crowdstrike - CRWD), Netskope, Menlo Security, Abnormal Security, Normalyze.ai, and Dasera, among others.

Robert D. Rodriguez

Robert Enslein - COO

Robert Enslein, Jr. brings over 25 years of investment industry experience, coupled with operational and corporate expertise. Mr. Enslein Founded and was Managing Partner of DECA Asset Management, a healthcare lending fund. Mr. Enslein has served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Loeb Capital Management, a $1.4 billion multi-strategy hedge fund, as well as serving on the Board of Directors for the Funds. Mr. Enslein also was President and Chief Operating Officer of Aremet Capital Management, a Greenwich, Connecticut based energy equity and commodity hedge fund, and served on the Board of Directors of those Funds as well. He was also a Managing Director at Mackay Shields, a debt focused global investment manager. Mr. Enslein has also held senior roles at major global investment banks, including: ING Barings where he ran institutional and retail operations in the Southeast, Credit Suisse where he led the Global Telecom Research effort, Jefferies & Co. where he ran Capital Introduction, and Gerard Klauer Mattison. He was Chief Executive Officer and board member of Pinnacle Wine Vault, a global wine importer, warehousing and distribution company, and led the company up to a merger. Mr. Enslein was also on the Board of Directors of Cyberforce Security, and is the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Reconstructing Hope, a 501c3 Charity that assists victims of Domestic Violence. Ryan Permeh

Ryan Permeh was previously the Co-Founder and Chief Scientist of Cylance which was acquired by Blackberry for $1.4b in 2020. Mr. Permeh led the architecture behind Cylance's mathematical engine and groundbreaking approach to security. Post-acquisition, Mr. Permeh worked within the office of the CTO to define technology strategy and architecture. Mr. Permeh has been in the security industry for over 20 years and has a long history in both offensive and defensive security. Prior to co-founding Cylance, he previously served as Chief Scientist for McAfee focused on technology strategy, and as a Distinguished Engineer at eEye Digital Security focused on building security assessment tools. He has published numerous articles, papers, and books, and is a frequent speaker at conferences around the world on the topics of security, privacy, machine learning, and entrepreneurship. His research has led to numerous innovations in both offensive and defensive security technology and he has published over 20 patents in the security and data science fields. He is known as the discoverer and primary analyst of the "Code Red" computer worm and contributed to many other analyses of significant threats over his career.

Tim McKnight

Tim McKnight has joined SYN Ventures as an Operating Partner focused on the dedicated cyber seed fund. Tim has a 30+ year career as a securty professional and business executive in government service and the private sector. Prior to joining SYN Ventures, Tim served as EVP & Chief Security Officer of SAP, reporting director to Christian Klein, CEO, and was a member of the executive board of SAP SE. Tim was responsible for SAP's overall security strategy, ensuring that SAP customers have a consistent and convenient security experience, establishing SAP as a recognized and trusted leader in the industry. In his role, Tim developed, implemented, and mangaed SAP's global security policies, standards and guidelines in accordance with ongoing security initiatives and worldwide IT, physical and personnel security, cybersecurity activities, data protection and privacy laws. Before joining SAP in December 2018, Tim was the Chief Information Security Officer for Thomson Reuters, responsible for all aspects of the company's global information security risk management program. Prior to that, he served as Chief Information & Product Security Officer for General Electric, executing its information security and IT risk strategy. Previously, Tim was executive vice president of Fidelity Investments' Information Security and Technology Risk. He served in various IT Security eladership roles at Northrop Grumman, BAE Systems, and Cisco Systems. Tim began his career at the Federal Bureau of Investigation as lead investigator of National Infrastructure Protection Center matters, including high-tech crimes, corporate espionage, foreign counterintelligence and telecommunications fraud. In addition to these roles, Tim has held the roles of Chairman of the Internet Security Alliance and taught undergraduate courses in digital forensics as an adjuct professor at Georgetown University. He is also a member of the Board of Security Advisors for Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Tenable and an Advisor to the Director of the National Security Agency. Tim received his bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and executive education at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
