arfia Jonas

Mu-arfia Jonas Monitoring and Evaluation Manager Mu-arfia has extensive experience in conceptualising and designing monitoring and evaluation frameworks. She has experience in and implementing M & E and reporting processes and systems in both the public and NGO sector for more than 10 years. She has a particular interest in ensuring that quality programme performance information and reporting enables the effective monitoring of programme and organisational service delivery outputs, outcomes, evaluation and impact. She also brings her vast experience in organisational development, project management, communication, training and capacity building to the organisation. She has a Master's degree in Public Administration, an Honours degree in Social Work, a Diploma in Project Management and training in Outcomes-based Monitoring and Evaluation and Advanced Indicator Development.

Arne Von Delft

Arne Von Delft Clinical Epidemiologist Arne is our Clinical Epidemiologist based at the Western Cape's Health Data Centre, focusing on enhancing community- and facility-based information systems and strengthening transversal TB, HIV, Chronic Disease and 1st 1000 Days services. The innovations he works on are designed and implemented with a health systems approach using open-source principles, allowing for broader applicability and use across other disciplines and in different settings. Arne has a broad background in public health, clinical medicine and evidence-based advocacy. He co-founded TB Proof, Unmask Stigma and Getting Rural Right, while working in various roles across the South African healthcare sector, including specialised diagnostic services and COPC (Community Oriented Primary Care). His career was transformed by personal experiences with occupational multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), initially supporting his ill wife, also a doctor, followed by his own probable primary MDR-TB infection. Through extensive academic and advocacy networks the couple continues the collective fight to #EndTB.

Asma Garda

Asma Garda holds a B. Com Information Systems Honours degree from the University of Cape Town. She has worked as a Business Analyst in various industries including Investment Banking, Human Resources and now in the Health Sector. She brings an array of skills to the team including Knowledge Management and sharing; Change Management; Business Process Improvement; Process mapping; People Management and has a Yellow belt in Six Sigma. She is passionate about bridging the gap between people and technology in today's ever-changing world. Outside work, Asma enjoys learning new skills and uplifting others through the development of technology. .

Bridgette Prince

Bridgette is an innovative manager with significant experience in coordinating large-scale, high-profile, collaborative projects more particularly in the area of HIV. Prior to joining The Health Foundation, Bridgette was the Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). There, she was responsible for exploring new donor relationships while maintaining existing partnerships at a strategic and operational level thus enabling the HSRC to be the research organisation of choice for further work. She actively used platforms like conferences, seminars and forums to disseminate research undertaken by various HSRC research programmes.

Chante Adonis

Chante is a young, hardworking individual with a passion for Project Management and accounting. She has 5 years' experience in Project Administration and holds a National Vocational Qualification in Accounting & Project Management. Her work allows her to exercise her love for projects and making a difference in people's lives one successful pilot at a time. Outside of work, she assists her church with outreach programmes and is part of the youth body. A few values she lives by are respect, integrity, loyalty and positivity!

Cwayita Nkwetsha

Cwayita Nkwetsha Quality Improvement Advisor Cwayita has over 10 years' experience working in health systems strengthening. Before joining The Health Foundation, she worked as a Quality Improvement Lead with Interactive Research and Development supporting the Eastern Cape Department of Health. She has a Post-Graduate Diploma in HIV Management and another Post-Graduate Diploma in Public Health. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Public Health at the University of KwaZulu Natal.

Damian Hacking

Damian has extensive experience in the digital health sphere, and the public health system in the Western Cape. He has previously worked as a project manager with Doctors Without Borders, and is a public health researcher at the University of Cape Town. Damian's strengths lie in organisational skills, problem-solving, innovative thinking, and pragmatism. He holds a Masters in Health Economics, and a Masters in Medicine. .

Eunice Bereke

Eunice Beneke is currently studying towards a Master's in Public Health at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and has a B Com Law and B Com Honours (Industrial Psychology) degree from the University of the Western Cape (UWC). She has a diversified background from working in public healthcare, academic research and the private sector. Her focus areas are the implementation of Health Information Systems and improving systems/workflow processes through monitoring and evaluation (M&E) at a primary healthcare level. Currently, she is employed by the Provincial Health Data Center as a project administrator supporting the implementation of Single Patient Viewer, an electronic medical system aimed at improving integrated patient care.

Gillian Makota

Gillian has over 10 years of public health experience, specializing in women and adolescent health in Sub-Saharan Africa. She has previously worked for civic organizations such as Paediatric Adolescent Treatment for Africa, Centre for Justice and Crime Prevention and Family Impact South Africa amongst others. Gillian holds an MA in Development studies from the Nelson Mandela University, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Health with the University of Western Cape. Gillian is passionate about transforming lives by inspiring change that has a positive impact on people's health particularly, adolescents and women.

Harry Grainger - CEO

Harry Grainger is a registered member of the South African Institute for Business Accountants and The South African Institute for Tax Professionals. He has more than 20 years' experience in financial management and accountable stewardship in both the corporate and NGO sector. The largest part of his NGO career was as a Financial Manager for a large international NGO which funded and implemented projects. Past organisations he has worked for and engaged with include Catholic Welfare and Development, Goedgedacht Trust, CWD Warmth, The Amy Biehl Foundation, Isonka Trust, Breadline Africa, Early Learning Resource Unit, Jazzart Dance Theatre and the Wellness Foundation. He brings to the Foundation vast experience in the areas of management accounting, fundraising, human resource management, strategic and operational management.

Helen Motloung

Job Titles:

Dr M Motloung holds a MBChB and an MMed Community Health/ FCPHM specialist degree in Public Health Medicine from the University of Free State. She was part of the Provincial COVID-19 Surveillance team, offering technical support to the province. And also the Provincial COVID19 Vaccine Coordinator in Free State for vaccine rollout. She also lectured for the undergraduate and postgraduate level at the Faculty of Health Sciences, UFS. Her research interest lies in the specialized areas in health systems, HIV and minority health. She is currently the public health specialist in the Metro Health Services Grant team..

Joanne Rowland

Joanne is our business development manager with a BA (Honours) in cultural studies. She has more than 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector and has worked with many of the large international Grant makers as well as numerous NGO's. These include: The Children's Hospital Trust, Orbis International, Save the Children and now The Health Foundation. She is skilled in Leadership, Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, Philanthropy, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), change making and bringing together organisations and partners with similar goals

John van Niekerk

John joined the Health Foundation as a software engineer, under the Provincial Health Data Centre. He has 4 years of experience in the field and is currently studying towards a Bachelor of Computer Sciences. John started his career in retail, point of sales software and is now looking to develop himself further with his keen interest for micro services, cloud architecture and domain driven design.

Kentse Kamanyane

Kentse holds an Honours degree in Anthropology from the University of the Western Cape as well as a PGC in Education from the University of Pretoria. Her experience ranges from research, academic tutoring as well as administrative roles. Prior to joining the Foundation, she worked at Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) as an ethnographer and fieldwork researcher. Kentse is a motivated young professional who is interested in continuous learning through research and human interaction.

Leigh-Ann Snyman

Leigh-Ann has extensive experience working at various hospitals in the Western Cape, where she gained experience in psychiatry, paediatric oncology and paediatric HIV respectively. She has also previously spent a year working in a peadiatric unit in Saudi Arabia. Following which, she worked in the civic sector as a Nursing Services Manager and prior to joining The Health Foundation as an activity manager and trainer for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Leigh-Ann holds a Diploma in General Nursing and a certificate in Palliative Nursing Care.

Liba Magwali

Ms Magwali is our dynamic Project and Operations Officer at the Health Foundation. She has in the past served the Foundation as a Research Officer as well as a Project Officer. Previously, she has worked in the Business Development Unit of the Western Cape Government: Health. She holds an MBA in Project Management from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in addition to her under-graduate qualifications. She brings to the Foundation an array of skills and knowledge that includes organisational governance, project and relationship management and financial and HR administration. While she is passionate about health, Liba also loves educational issues and offers mentorship and tutorship to high-school and university students in her spare time.

Ms Caylee Solomons

Caylee Solomons is our Financial Administration Officer. Prior to joining The Health Foundation, she worked at the Western Cape Department of Health(WCDOH) where she gained experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, Project Management as well as Public Finance Systems. In addition to her extensive work experience, Caylee brings to the Foundation key values such as those of transparency, accountability and vibrant energy. In her spare time she enjoys volunteering assistance for the elderly.

Ms Tshireletso Mohlafuno

Tshireletso is our Project Coordinator. She holds a Masters degree from the University of Cape Town in Medical Anthropology. She has vast experience of working in the sectors of public healthcare, social development and academic research. She brings to the Foundation a wide range of skills including detail orientation, quality focus and communication skills. She is passionate about serving the public at large.

Nicolette Loots

Nicolette has a BAcc (Hons) degree from Stellenbosch University. She successfully completed her auditing articles at Baker Tilly Greenwoods, Cape Town and qualified as a CA(SA). Thereafter she gained auditing and accounting experience and expertise in various sectors, including non-profit companies, as audit manager at HG Chartered Accountants. When she is not balancing and reconciling accounts, she tries to make responsible citizens out of her three kids.

Nyameka Mbula

Nyameka Mbula IM and E Manager Nyameka has 17 years of experience in the Health Industry. She started off in the City of Cape Town as an MSAT Coordinator where, she fell in love with HIV/AIDS advocacy. She was later involved in Health Information Management for 10 years, prior to venturing into USAID-funded HIV Programmes in the areas of Monitoring and Evaluation. Over the past 4 years, she has been seconded to the Western Cape Department of Health. Her biggest drive is service delivery for the people of Western Cape and she is a big supporter of new innovation to ensure we improve the provision of quality health services.

Puni Mamdoo

Puni Mamdoo Public Health Specialist Dr Puni Mamdoo is a medical doctor with a specialization in Public Health Medicine. She has, more than 20 years of experience; 15 years of which were in health systems strengthening and public health. She holds a Masters in Medicine (Public Health); Master of Business Administration (International Economics track); Diploma in Business Management; Diploma in Family Medicine; Certificate in Medicine and Law and Certificate in Healthcare Improvement. Her career history involves working with various Provincial Government Health Departments and with various donor-funded development partners in the field of HIV/AIDS and health system strengthening. Puni has also facilitated and lectured on several Postgrad academic programs, most notably the Masters in Philosophy (Health Systems and Services Research) at Stellenbosch University. On a personal note, she is fuelled by a desire to make an impact on people's lives and is not afraid to work hard to achieve this.

Saul Nachman

Saul Nachman is an enthusiastic advocate for CI/CD, testing and deployment automation. A former high school English teacher and book editor, Saul made a career shift to development in 2015, first as a front-end developer then as a Devops and Site Reliability Engineer working with Kubernetes and other cloud infrastructure. Saul has joined the PHDC to drive process and infrastructure modernisation as well as to improve SDLC and developer tooling.

Thembakazi Yamiso

Thembakazi Yamiso Business Analyst Within her IT career, Thembakazi has worked in various capacities, such as Junior Developer and IT Support Technician. This was prior to her venturing into her dream career of working as an analyst. As an analyst, she has worked on various information systems and liaised with various stakeholders from the public sector. Some of the organizations she has been involved with include iQ Academy and ELCB Information Systems. Having obtained her tertiary qualification in the field of Information Technology from Nelson Mandela University, Thembakazi has been upskilling herself now and again by taking online short courses from various institutions, including GetSmarter. Her passion is making a positive impact in other people's lives, be it a listening ear, words of encouragement or a helping hand.

Tracy Eastman

Tracy Eastman is a medical doctor and health manager, trained at the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa (SA). She worked in general and rural clinical practice in SA, Canada and the UK (1992-97), as a health manager responsible for Maternal & Neonatal service delivery in the Western Cape, SA (1998-2000), implementing Health IT systems in hospitals in SA (2001-2004) and the UK (2005-2010), was Director of the BMJ Evidence Centre (2012-2014) and led the BMJ /UCT Knowledge Translation Unit (KTU) global health partnership (2015-2020) implementing "PACK" (Practical Approach to Care Kit), a primary health care strengthening programme, working with colleagues in SA, Brazil, Nigeria and Ethiopia. She currently works in the METRO Health Services, Western Cape Department of Health, in Clinical Services Implementation Support.

Tumelo Maliti

The vibrant and bubbly Tumelo joined The Health Foundation team as the Office Administrator. Tumelo holds a BA degree in Sociology, Anthropology and Language and Communication Studies. Before joining The Health Foundation, Tumelo worked in the Call Centre space as a resolution specialist and went on to being a trainer assistant. Outside of work, Tumelo enjoys exploring new places and trying new things. She plans to use her passion for understanding human behavior to pursue forensic studies.

Her career history includes involvement in the University Capacity Development Project, the Curriculum Development Project and the Engineering Projects Innovation Centre management. Outside work, Verna's interests include volunteering and working with the project team of the Tygerberg Flamingo Project, which provide support to breast cancer patients (Love Box Project).
