In 1996 URW America was awarded a contract with the Federal Highway Administration, Department of Transportation (FHWA) to Revise and Update the Standard Highway Signs Manual. This massive project required over 3,000 individual, full size sign layouts to be created. URW was also given the responsibility to revise the Standard Alphabets
