Carrie Miller

Carrie joined Trellis Wealth Advisors as a partner in 2014. She shares responsibility for every aspect of running the business and working with clients, with a special focus on communications, operations and technology. Before joining Trellis Wealth Advisors, Carrie served advisors and their clients during much of her 18 year career at our custodian, Charles Schwab. As Managing Director within Schwab Institutional, Carrie helped lead efforts to improve the client experience for 7,000+ independent advisory firms with over $900 billion in client assets at Schwab. Over four years, Carrie managed product development and roll-outs for the institutional business, ensuring that key Schwab products and services were built to work seamlessly for advisors and their clients. Prior to that, Carrie managed communications and training efforts for the 120-person relationship management team within Schwab Institutional. Carrie managed both strategic and crisis communications for Schwab Institutional sales staff during the global financial crisis of 2008 -2009. Prior to that, Carrie helped launch and grow the nation's largest investment advisor referral program for high net worth investors. Over 6 years, Carrie had the opportunity to work closely with 300 respected independent advisory firms throughout the U.S., developing reporting, technology and educational content for these advisors and their clients. Carrie earned a BA degree in Literature from Claremont McKenna College.

Kevin Okimoto - Founder

Prior to founding Trellis Wealth Advisors, Kevin was a Founding Partner, Head of Investment Management Group, and Chief Operating Officer of Sterling Stamos Capital Management, LP, a private investment firm that invests globally across alternative and traditional asset classes on behalf of ultra high net worth and institutional investors.

Mark Thompson - Founder

As a founding partner of Trellis Wealth Advisors, Mark Thompson shares equal responsibility for every aspect of running the business, working with clients, and managing portfolios. Before founding Trellis Wealth Advisors, Mark was a Managing Director at Sterling Stamos. He headed the five-person Managed Account team responsible for constructing and monitoring customized, multi-asset class portfolios for the company's largest individual clients, with assets totaling approximately $2 billion. His responsibilities included day-to-day communications with clients and their respective advisors concerning all investment, tax, and operational issues. Prior to his role leading the Managed Account team, Mark worked as a Director in the firm conducting the due diligence and investment selection process for both the Real Assets and Endowment funds. Before joining Sterling Stamos, Mark was an investment advisor with Changing Parameters, a money management firm in Menlo Park, where his responsibilities included investment model development and trading.

Scott Whitcher - Founder

Prior to founding Trellis Wealth Advisors, Scott created and served as Managing Director of Stone & Youngberg's Asset Management Group, where he was responsible for overall portfolio construction and investment strategy for the firm's discretionary managed client accounts. Scott provided clients with portfolio recommendations focused on long-term, cost effective, and tax efficient investing. To meet this end, he oversaw the analysis and selection of traditional equity and fixed income vehicles as well as alternative investment opportunities. Prior to joining Stone & Youngberg, Scott was a partner at Sterling Stamos, where he was responsible for developing and managing the firm's relationships with its institutional and private investors. Before Sterling Stamos, he was an investment counselor for the Citigroup Private Bank, and was responsible for investment counseling, portfolio construction, investment manager selection, and client service in connection with private client portfolios. Scott also spent six years at Collins Associates, an alternative investment specialist, where he administered numerous investment funds, structured private investment vehicles, and performed investment manager research and due diligence.
