TuneUpLog was first envisioned after years of using a spreadsheet to track vehicle maintenance and mileage. The spreadsheet worked well - it was easy to use and kept track of most things necessary to keep a vehicle running properly, but it had many shortcomings. Entering data from multiple computers wasn't possible, so if I fueled up on the way to work I would need to wait until I got home to enter the receipt - and hopefully not lose it in the meantime. Entering from a mobile device wasn't remotely possible at the time, so entering a fuel up or service while it was being done wasn't possible. Whenever I made improvements to one section of the spreadsheet, for instance adding a cost of ownership statistic that included purchase price, it had to be replicated across spreadsheets for all my different vehicles.
