Alphonso Magri

Alphonso completed his B.A. in Physics at the State University of New York at Geneseo. He then went to Syracuse University for a Ph.D. in gravitational modeling. After participating for a short time in a research group involved with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Observatory (LIGO) in Louisiana, he switched his field of study to medical imaging. He became involved in the Syracuse Medical Imaging Research Group (SMIRG) once his M.S. in Physics at Syracuse University was completed.

Colleen Beer

Colleen Beer received her undergraduate degree in Physics from Siena College, and her graduate degree from East Carolina University's CAMPEP-accredited medical physics program. Colleen first met the UMP team in June 2015 as a Landauer Medical Physics intern in Providence, RI. After establishing her passion for diagnostic medical physics, Colleen was pleased to join the Upstate Medical Physics residency program in January 2016. Colleen graduated from the UMP Residency program in 2018 and continued on with Landauer Medical Physics in the Chicago area.

Dylan DeAngelis

Dylan DeAngelis received his graduate degree from the medical physics program at Columbia University. He completed the two-year residency program at Upstate Medical Physics in the summer of 2017 and was employed for two additional years by UMP-partner, Landauer Medical Physics. In summer of 2019, Dylan returned to UMP in upstate New York as a full-time, certified medical physics. He holds a certificate from DABR for diagnostic radiological physics, as well as a New York State professional license. As of 2021, Dylan has also become an associate director of the residency program, to foster the education of residents going through the same program from which he graduated. Dylan is originally from Long Island, NY, and now lives in Farmington, NY. Isaac Bailey

Isaac received his undergraduate degree in Radiation Health Physics from Oregon State University. He continued his education at the CAMPEP accredited Oregon Medical Physics Program in Portland, Oregon where he received his graduate degree. During his graduate studies he had a focus in diagnostic imaging physics and subsequently completed his master's thesis on the impacts of tube current and tube potential in Computed Tomography and the resulting influences on image quality and dose indices. Isaac joined the Upstate Medical Physics residency program in June of 2017 and graduated in 2019. He is currently employed by Oregon Health and Science Center. He is originally from The Dalles, Oregon and now lives in Canandaigua, NY. Jason Sherman

Job Titles:

Jason received his B.S. Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Rochester. He spent 2 years working in the Radiation Oncology department at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester NY where he developed a passion for Medical Physics through his involvement in Brachytherapy related research. He then enrolled in a Medical Physics program at the University of Buffalo where he acquired his Master's degree. Jason is the first to graduate from the 3-year CAMPEP accredited residency program here at Upstate Medical Physics and has been hired as a full-time employee. In 2012, Jason participated in a Point/Counterpoint discussion in the Medical Physics journal arguing for non-academic residency programs. Since joining the company in April 2008, Jason has acquired extensive experience in conducting medical physics surveys of Radiography, Fluoroscopy, Computed Radiography (CR) equipment, Computed Tomography, Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Mammography and some Nuclear Medicine. After a week long CR Super-User course at Fuji medical Systems in Stamford CT his knowledge and resulting contributions are recognized by clients. Jason obtained his FDA approval under MQSA regulations in October 2009. Since then he has been performing annual mammography surveys on all approved full-field digital mammography systems (Hologic, GE, Fuji, Siemens). In the coming year, he will work to expand his understanding of Computed Tomography. Jason has passed his American Board of Radiology - Diagnostic Radiological Physics certification exam in May 2012. Jason began taking more of a leadership role within UMP and currently holds the position of CEO & President of UMP and Practice Director of the Northeast region. Jason has spent a majority of his life in Buffalo & Rochester NY and currently lives in Fairport, NY with his wife, 2 daughters, dog and cat.

Jennifer Newton

Jen has over 17 years of experience as an x-ray technologist focused on orthopaedics, bone density and mammography in both large medical centers and private offices. In the last several years, she became more involved with the x-ray quality control testing where she was working and eventually took over the responsibilities entirely. Jen joined UMP in January of 2016.

John Cooper

John received a Bachelor of Science in Physics from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Salem College, and a Master of Science in Medical Physics from East Carolina University. Before pursuing his graduate degree, John worked as a service technician and a quality assurance test technician. During his graduate studies John worked as a research assistant studying the diagnostic and therapeutic properties of iron oxide nanoparticles in vitro using breast cancer cells. He joined Upstate Medical Physics as a Diagnostic Medical Physics Resident in June of 2022. Joseph Greco

Joe has over 30 years of diversified experience working with sources of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and management of their safe use in medical, manufacturing, R&D, and fusion reactor environments. After receiving his degree in Biology, Joe began his professional career as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. He then attended graduate school and received his Master's degree in Radiological Hygiene. He spent 5 years as an operational health physicist at Princeton Plasma Physics Lab research fusion reactor in New Jersey. He then joined Eastman Kodak in Rochester and served as their Radiation and Laser Safety Officer for 14 years. Joe joined Upstate Medical Physics in 2006. His specialties include nuclear medicine & PET support (assessments, acceptance testing), shielding design and calculations for various imaging modalities, radiation safety training, dosimetry, licensing and regulatory support, health physics, and laser and non-ionizing radiation safety. Keri Santiago

Keri Santiago received her Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology. She then discovered and became interested in Medical Physics and continued on to earn her Master of Science in Medical Radiation Physics from the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago, Illinois. After receiving her Bachelor's from the University at Buffalo, Keri became a summer intern with Upstate Medical Physics. She enthusiastically returned the following summer to fulfill her clinical rotations for her Master's program. Keri is now pleased to be working full time for the company after graduating from the Residency program. Keri was born and raised in Penfield, New York. Kyle Ostrowski

Kyle received his undergraduate degree in Physics and Math at the University of Louisville, and his graduate degree in Medical Physics from CAMPEP accredited Purdue University. During his graduate studies he had a focus in diagnostic imaging physics and helped to develop and run an MRI neuroimaging study of manganese toxicity testing potential biomarkers for personal risk assessment in occupational welders. He has completed Part 1 of the ABR exam for diagnostic medical physics, and plans to continue towards board certification. Kyle joined Upstate Medical Physics as a Diagnostic Medical Physics Resident in June of 2019. He is originally from Louisville, Kentucky and now lives in Fairport, NY. Loren Marous

Loren Marous received her undergraduate physics degree and graduate medical physics degree from Cleveland State University. During her graduate studies, Loren worked as a teaching assistant where she taught undergraduate physics labs in addition to working as a research assistant performing Monte Carlo simulations involving radiation transport in CT. Loren is also a registered radiologic technologist with the ARRT and licensed in the state of Ohio to perform radiography. Lynn Omphroy

Lynn started with Upstate Medical Physics in 2017. She is one of the friendly voices ready to help our clients out. Though new to UMP, Lynn has had over 30 years of experience with Xerox Corporation. The majority of her tenure there was as a Finance Controller. Lynn has an Executive MBA from the University of Rochester. At UMP, Lynn functions primarily in an administrative capacity, and works closely with clients in the development of contracts. Lynn is so grateful for the opportunity to work with such professional team members within UMP and the awesome clients that we serve. Lynn is originally from Brooklyn, New York.

Marcus Lamaster

Marcus received his undergraduate degree in Physics from Indiana University, and his graduate degree in Medical Physics from Radiological Technologies University. After completing his master's degree, Marcus went on to work under the medical physics team at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, where he was trained for two years as a diagnostic medical physicist.Marcus is passionate about image quality and patient safety and is eager to hone his skills as a medical physicist. He is delighted to have joined Upstate Medical Physics as a Diagnostic Medical Physics Resident in June of 2018. Marcus graduated from the UMP Residency program in 2020. Mark (Ye) Wu

After receiving his B. S. Degree in Physics, Mark started his professional career working as an electrical engineer at an electric power construction company. He also spent a number of years working in computer engineering. Mark then attended graduate school and received his PhD degree in Medical Physics. His research during graduate studies focused on development of new x-ray high-resolution digital imaging systems for neuron-interventional procedures, and image quality evaluation. Mary Jo Bonin

Mary Jo has over 17 years experience as an x-ray technologist, working in large teaching hospitals as well as private radiology offices, in both New York and Connecticut. Most recently, she spent 10 years as the Mammography Team Leader for a large multi-site private practice in Rochester. Mary Jo has extensive experience with digital mammography, mammography QC procedures, MQSA inspections, and the ACR Mammography Accreditation Program. In February 2010, Mary Jo joined Upstate Medical Physics as the Education and QC Coordinator. She plays a key administrative role in our CAMPEP accredited Diagnostic Imaging Physics Residency Program; she also coordinates educational activities for the staff, schedules visits to client sites, and oversees the quality assurance efforts for our reports. Often it is Mary Jo's voice you hear when calling UMP, and you will find that she is happy to track down answers to all your QC questions. Mary Jo was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in Rochester, New York, where she currently lives with her husband and three children.

Matt Lesher

Matt received his B.S Degree in Health Physics from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. He spent 5 years working in Duke University's Radiation Safety Division, during which he obtained his online Master of Radiation Health Physics degree from Oregon State University. After graduating, he relocated to the Northeast to join a dual role with Landauer Medical Physics as a Radiation Safety Officer and Medical Physicist Assistant. Originally from Pennsylvania, in 2022, Matt and his wife moved closer to home to start a family. After shadowing various Upstate Medical Physics staff members for several months, he recognized an opportunity to join a workplace culture he had been searching for. He joined UMP as a Medical Health Physicist and Medical Physicist Assistant in April, 2023. In the upcoming year, he hopes to gain the experience and credentials necessary to survey Mammography, MRI, CT, and Nuclear Medicine equipment independently. Michael McGranor

Along with experience in diagnostic x-ray and fluoroscopy, Michael has 11 years of experience as an MRI Technologist in a large volume neurologic institute. Before joining UMP in November 2021, he held the role of Technical Coordinator and Lead Technologist of MRI, where he developed and implemented state of the art MR techniques for use in clinical practice and research. With a focus in advanced Neuro Imaging, sequence optimization and Imaging Research, he worked closely with Philips Clinical Scientists to refine, further develop, and troubleshoot pulse sequences such as fMRI/BOLD, 3D pCASL, Spiral acquisitions, compressed SENSE, and MSDE black blood imaging to name a few. As Lead Technologist he also facilitated ongoing staff education and training for a large team of MRI technologists. Nelson Jewell

Nelson has over 20 years of experience in the field of radiation protection. He started his professional career with the New York State Department of Health in the Wadsworth Center for Laboratories & Research in Albany NY, where he was responsible for preparation, analysis and reporting of various environmental radiological samples. He then became a Senior Radiological Health Specialist based in Rochester NY, where he was responsible for site inspections and evaluations of x-ray, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy and teletherapy installations. Nelson also provided emergency response and assistance to private, local and state agencies, and provided radiological health and safety training and assistance to county health departments, schools, and other organizations. Nelson joined Upstate Medical Physics in 1992. Patrick Bond

Patrick Bond received his undergraduate degree in Physics with a minor in Mathematics at Idaho State University. Then he moved with his wife and son to Indiana and received his graduate degree in Medical Physics from CAMPEP accredited Purdue University. During his graduate studies he had the opportunity to conduct computer particle physics simulations and work as a radiation detection lab teaching assistant. Suphatra Gilbert

Suphatra Gilbert has 7 years of clinical experience in radiographic and fluoroscopy equipment, ultrasound, dental, mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, CT, MRI, SPECT, PET, and Planar Camera. She is knowledgeable in clinical applications, quality assurance, acceptance surveys, regulations, radiation safety, accreditations, and shielding designs. She discovered her interest in Medical Physics after she graduated from the Physics PhD Program at Syracuse University. She shadowed members of Upstate Medical Physics on several field assignments and voluntarily assisted in several projects at UMP. During that time, she not only had an opportunity to learn what Diagnostic Medical Physics is but also got to know UMP staff. She then went on to gain her academic requirements and clinical experience in Medical Physics at University at Buffalo and came back to join the UMP residency program in 2014. After completing her residency in 2016, she became a full-time UMP staff. In 2019, she served the residency program as a resident committee. She recently got promoted to Associate Director of the residency program in 2021. She is committed to the development of UMP residents in all aspects of Diagnostic Medical Physics.
