As Senior Program Officer, Abel contributes to the evolution of Verra programs by helping develop updates to existing rules and procedures, especially those related to REDD+ and AFOLU. Abel focuses on providing guidance and support to project developers, third-party auditors, methodology developers, and other stakeholders. Before joining Verra, Abel worked at South Pole on AFOLU project development, business development, and project sourcing. Prior to South Pole, Abel worked in forest inventory campaigns in the Amazon. Abel holds a bachelor's degree in Forest Engineering from the Federal University of Paraná - UFPR and a Master of Science in European Forestry with a double-degree from the University of Eastern Finland (MSc in Agriculture and Forestry) and AgroParisTech (Master in Life and Environmental Science and Technologies).

Alicia Tacoronte

Alicia is a Human Resources Coordinator at Verra. She supports the Human Resources Manager and works with the Operations teams on different projects. Alicia graduated from Georgetown University McDonough School of Business in 2020, where she majored in Business Administration with a minor in Creative Writing and a special interest in Environmental Studies. Before coming to Verra, Alicia worked at WesCon, a start-up security company where she ran onboarding, created an online filing infrastructure, and helped develop the companies HR pathways. At the same time, Alicia interned for Fast Forward Group, an executive coaching firm, where she worked to develop and manage content, research competitors, and create NPS summaries for clients. Alicia is also the author of Catkins in July, which was published in April of 2021. In her free time, Alicia loves to write, explore NC, play ukulele, and hang out with friends.

Amy Thom

Amy is a Manager on the Sustainable Development Innovation team at Verra. In this role, she supports the evolution and expansion of the SD VISta and CCB programs, and contributes to the identification and realization of new strategies and asset opportunities for sustainable development outcomes. Amy is a rural development practitioner and socio-economic researcher with more 10 years of hands-on experience in sustainable development project design, implementation, and evaluation. Prior to joining Verra, Amy managed a multi-province farmer support program across rural South Africa, where she led field-based teams and engaged local, national, and international stakeholders to strategically layer sustainable development interventions. Amy has consulted on a range of social sector projects dealing with impact strategy, market analyses, stakeholder mapping, evaluation design, and international partnership creation. She's now in Portugal completing a Ph.D. in Agronomy & Sustainable Rural Development at the University of Lisbon, where she's been modeling the social impacts and technical efficiency of milk production among Madagascan smallholders. Amy joined Verra because she loves to connect the dots between theory, data, and practice to drive real-world change for people and the planet. Amy holds a Bachelor degree in International Studies & Sociology from the University of California San Diego, as well as a Master degree in Social Justice (emphasis on Politics & Economics) from the University of Cape Town. She loves languages, wild places, her dog Vasco, and she's been surfing around the world for the past 20+ years.

Anca Grindeanu

As a Registry Administrator, Anca provides support to registry users with opening and using their accounts, including creating new project records, and issuing, transferring, and retiring Verified Carbon Units (VCUs). Before joining Verra, Anca worked as a client manager and legal assistant to several law firms in the Washington, D.C. area. In her most recent position, she managed client accounts and provided support to families of children with disabilities. Her interests in conservation efforts and sustainable development stem from the aspiration to protect the environment and its scarce resources. Originally from Romania, she grew up with an appreciation of nature and the breathtaking biogeographical diversity of the country, yet recognized the need for strict regulations to reduce its serious environmental problems. Anca moved to the D.C. area to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Law and Society from American University and become involved in the myriad opportunities the city had to offer. Her most memorable experience was working on several exhibits with the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History to further dialogue among visitors and instill a sense of responsibility in protecting natural resources. In her free time, Anca enjoys hiking, learning new recipes, and spending time with her pets.

Andrea Guerrero García

Andrea Guerrero García studied Forest Science at the University of Florida and has a Master's in Biology. She worked for the Colombian government for more than ten years, starting at the Ministry of Environment, where she led the country's climate policy development, and then in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director for Economic, Social and Environmental Multilateral Affairs. She led the Colombian delegation for the Paris Agreement and was a facilitator for one of its chapters. She then left government work to join Mission 2020 and the UN Secretary General's climate team and founded the Colombian NGO "Transforma". She is now a Program Director at Growald Climate Fund. She has also been a consultant working for USAID, the EU, UN and LEDS GP on climate policy and diplomacy throughout her career.

Andrew Howard

He works with initiatives in the voluntary market as well as governmental and intergovernmental programs to shape new frameworks for private and public sector finance, and to feed needs and priorities back into Verra's work programs.

Angelo Sartori

As Director of Stakeholder Engagement, Angelo is responsible for Verra's engagement with stakeholders so that they understand the role of Verra and its programs, with an emphasis on governments, project proponents, auditors, and accreditation entities. He also is responsible for analyzing and detecting synergies and opportunities based on policies promoted by subnational and national governments and/or congresses, with emphasis on the creation and implementation of domestic carbon markets. In previous roles at Verra, Angelo was the Regional Outreach Director and he worked with governments to pursue the endorsement of environmental and social markets and the use of Verra's standards to meet their climate and development aims. Before that Angelo held the position of Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, promoting the use of standards and programs administered by Verra in the region. His first position in Verra, between July 2018 and October 2019, was Manager for REDD+ Market Development, promoting the VCS, CCB, and JNR Programs with private and public entities. Before joining Verra, Angelo worked from 2003 to 2018 for the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) of the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture as Head of the Climate Change and Environmental Services Unit. In this capacity, he assumed the role of National Focal Point of REDD+ within the UNFCCC, UNCCD, and served as the official counterpart to initiatives such as FCPF, UN-REDD, COSUDE, GEF, and GCF, among others. He also led the formulation and implementation of the Chilean government's National Strategy for Climate Change and Vegetational Resources. Angelo is a Forest Engineer from the Universidad Santo Tomás, Chile, with a Diploma and Master's Degree in Business and Administration (MBA) in Sustainable Management, from the University of Lüneburg, Germany.

Anindita (Dita) is one of Verra's Registry Administrators. She provides support to registry users with opening and using their accounts, including creating new project records and issuing, transferring, and retiring Verified Carbon Units (VCUs). She also assists our stakeholders with the Know your Customer (KYC) procedures. Prior to joining Verra, Dita built her carbon market experience in Switzerland, helping South Pole grow from a start-up. At South Pole, Dita was a member of the sales/key account management team, managing their Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Gold Standard Voluntary Emissions Reduction (GS VER), and Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) registry systems for over 7 years. She ensured VCS project registration and VCU issuance adhered to regulatory and compliance standards and oversaw CER, GS VER, and VCU credit inventories and activities in their carbon registries globally.

Anna Mortimer

Anna is a Senior Program Officer and supports a number of essential functions of the Program Management Team, spending a majority of her time to projects using the Sustainable Development Programs, such as the CCB Program and the SD VISta Program. Anna also assists the Program Development and Innovations Team on their work in scaling up Blue Carbon activities. Before joining Verra worked at Northwestern Mutual where she created unique and individualized financial plans for clients. She also has social media experience, having developed a strategy for active social media prospecting for a local financial advisory firm. Anna graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. degree in International Political Economy from Fordham University. While at Fordham, she led a team in researching and developing a sustainability retrofit plan for buildings in the city of New Rochelle, NY.

Anne Thiel

Anne is responsible for managing and implementing Verra's communications strategy, ensuring effective ongoing outreach to our stakeholders while also supporting Verra's programs and telling the stories of how they are making a difference. She oversees the production of outreach and marketing materials for the organization, conducts social media outreach, and is the point person for media inquiries. Prior to joining Verra, Anne was the Communications Manager at Forest Trends, a D.C.-based international NGO focused on developing and promoting economic incentives for conservation where she managed all outreach activities. Before that, Anne worked for Sustainable Finance Ltd., a small start-up consultancy that worked on environmental and social risk management in the financial services sector, and the World Resources Institute. Anne holds a Ph.D. in German Studies from Georgetown University and is also a trained midwife.

Ben serves as Legal Director of Verra, where he counsels the organization on its legal affairs. Ben is an attorney with more than ten years of experience practicing law. Ben has previously worked as an associate attorney for Paul Hastings LLP, a Deputy City Attorney for the San Diego City Attorney's Office, and, most recently, a Senior Attorney for the California Air Resources Board (CARB). In his position at CARB, Ben counseled the State of California on its Cap-and-Trade Program, which is one of the largest greenhouse gas pricing programs in the world. Ben received a bachelor's degree from Claremont McKenna College and a Juris Doctor degree from the George Washington University Law School. He is licensed to practice law in California and Washington.

Benoît Clément

Benoît develops and leads Verra's financial innovation strategy. His role focuses on leveraging existing Verra standards and developing new frameworks and tools to unlock and scale up investment into climate action and sustainable development. Benoît began his career with seven years in finance before finding his passion and focusing on sustainable development. He has led projects and programs in watershed restoration, wildfire disaster recovery, regenerative agriculture, and agroforestry, working with non-profits, governments, and corporations, as well as establishing his own companies. Before joining Verra, Benoît worked at ReForestry, a startup he co-founded to develop a FinTech product for aggregating micro-loans for unbankable, smallholder farmers to develop landscape-scale regenerative agroforestry in developing countries. At ReForestry, Benoît was the COO and later interim CEO, responsible for creating the company's vision, values, and performance metrics, and leading all aspects of organizational development. This involved managing international and local partnerships with government, finance, research, agriculture, and technology institutions. Benoit completed his MBA in Sustainability Management in Switzerland. Benoît enjoys tending to his tree nursery at home, hiking, foraging for herbs, tree cuttings, and mushrooms, mountain biking, flow arts, reading (mostly non-fiction psychology, how-to, and nature-based books), and exploring countries and cultures unfamiliar to him.

In his role as Director of the Verra Registry, Breffni manages the Verra registry team and the registry system, focusing on providing Verra's stakeholders with a world class platform for realizing meaningful carbon emission reductions. Breffni was born and raised in Ireland, where he received an MA in Modern Irish History and an MBA. He has worked in the multinational IT sector and in the public sector. In 2011 he joined the Directorate of Climate Action in the European Commission. He was part of the project team that transitioned the EU member state emission trading registries to a consolidated ETS and KP system. He implemented and managed the support operations provided to the member states and ETS users.

Cai May Tan

Before joining Verra, Cai May interned with the International Institute for Sustainable Development and Don't Waste Durham, where she researched and built tools to evaluate materials management infrastructures. Cai May earned a Masters of Environmental Management from Duke University, specializing in Environmental Economics and Policy. At Duke, she taught a course on international climate negotiations and produced a thesis to quantify climate risks in the global timber market. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environment Studies from Soka University of America. Originally from Malaysia, Cai May enjoys recreating the dishes she misses. Candace is the Senior Director of Nature-based Innovation. She is responsible for identifying and conceptualizing new standards, tools, and programs in support of nature-based solutions (NBS). Candace has an extensive and diverse background in environmental markets, sustainability, poverty, and inequality. Prior to joining Verra, she was the Sustainable Development Director at Viresco Solutions, where she managed consulting contracts focused on natural climate solutions, led Viresco's efforts to expand internationally, and supported business operations. As the Sustainable Development Director, she also advised governments across Canada on their carbon policy and guided several multinational corporations in their emissions management strategies. Much of her work at Viresco was centered around carbon insetting, scope 3 reductions, and agricultural supply chain sustainability. Prior to her position at Viresco, Candace was the Manager of Agriculture and Social Projects at The Prasino Group. Here, she led a small team of sustainability professionals working on agricultural offset protocol development, greenhouse gas emission reduction quantification, and environmental market policy development. Previously, Candace also worked as a Research Fellow with the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF)/International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) where she helped create a geographic information system mapping the distribution of agroforestry tree species in the Amazon. Dirk Forrister

Dirk Forrister is President and CEO of the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA). He previously served as managing director of Natsource, as a senior official with the U.S. Department of Energy and as energy program manager at Environmental Defense Fund. Dirk, an early contributor to U.S. climate change policy, brings to the Verra Board considerable skills and experience in energy policy and carbon markets.

Dr. Anne-Marie Warris brings to the Board significant experience in chairing, facilitating and participating in various fora encompassing national, regional and international organizations including dealing with cross-cultural boundaries. This experience is complimented by her strategic thinking, enthusiasm, energy, and preparedness to go the extra mile. Her technical expertise is in sustainable matters and climate change, with a specific focus on monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV), both in relation to policy developments and delivery of services. She has received several awards as a recognition of her skills and expertise. She was invited to give the Royal Academy of Engineering lecture on ‘A low carbon world - is it realistic?' in April 2010 and is an elected Fellow of IETA and an Honorary Fellow of ETG (UK) Ltd. The ISO sub-committee responsible for environmental management systems received the prestigious ISO L D Eicher Leadership Award in September 2016 which reflects Anne-Marie's leadership of the subcommittee over 9 years.

Dr. Ken Newcombe

Before co-founding CQC, Dr. Ken Newcombe was Managing Director at Goldman Sachs in the Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities Division in New York; Vice-Chair and Co-manager of Carbon Markets for Climate Change Capital. Before joining the private sector, Ken pioneered the global carbon trade at the World Bank, where he launched and managed eight carbon funds with one billion dollars under management. He has a doctorate in the epidemiology of the energy/natural resource management health nexus from the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University and Business Management training from Harvard Business School. Before coming to the United States, he was CEO of the Papua New Guinea Power Utility and Founding Head of Energy Planning for PNG. As an intrapreneur in the World Bank, Ken led the World Banks pilot phase of the Global Environment Facility which established the basis for one billion a year permanent GEF to support the incremental costs of aligning investment decisions with externalities of global environmental change and pioneered the investment portfolio of the Multilateral Fund of the Montreal Protocol to phase our ozone-depleting substances. He established the Forest Market Transformation Initiative which led to the launch of the leading NGO Forest Trends and its Ecosystem Marketplace and the successful Global Alliance for Forest Conservation and Sustainable use with the World Wildlife Fund.

Dr. Tao Yun - Chairman

Dr. Tao Yun brings rich experience in the fields of environmental protection, IT, investment, and big data. He worked as a senior manager in multinationals, Chinese state-owned, and public companies. He has also founded multiple start-ups, including co-founding the environmental asset division of Beijing ZBX Group which has built and is maintaining IT infrastructures in 3 of China's 7 pilot carbon markets. In addition to climate change issues, he is also interested in water usage allowances, garbage permits, and plastic reduction. Tao received his PhD in Ecology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. "I am excited to serve as chair on Verra's Board of Directors as the carbon markets undergo a number of important transitions and as the organization expands into new areas of tremendous opportunity, such as the markets for plastic credits and ESG reporting. As an established standard-setter, Verra brings a lot of experience to these areas, and I look forward to working with Management to help guide this work."

Jim Cannon is CEO and founder of the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership. He has worked on fisheries, forestry, and conservation issues in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Jim edited the UN Food and Agriculture Organization's World Review of Marine Fisheries in the late 1990s, advised McDonald's since 2002 on their fish-sourcing guidelines and annual sourcing evaluations, and advised Walmart on seafood sustainability since 2004. He served on the Marine Stewardship Council's (MSC's) Technical Advisory Board from 2005 to 2008, and worked at Conservation International from 1997 to 2006, where he headed the economics program and then the policy center. Jim studied ecology at Cambridge University and environmental economics, management, and fisheries at Imperial College, London. In 2009, Jim was named Intrafish's "Person of the Year."

Kelley Kizzier is a fellow at the Bezos Earth Fund. She was formerly the Vice President of Global Climate at the Environmental Defense Fund. She is a renowned expert on European and international climate policy and was the European Union's (EU) lead markets negotiator in the International Climate Negotiations for 14 years. Prior to joining EDF, Kelley was an independent consultant, and her clients included the Government of Ontario, the Western Climate Initiative, the World Bank, the European Commission, and the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions. From 2010 to 2017, Kelley was part of the European Commission's Directorate General Clima where she designed and implemented EU policy on international carbon credits; aviation; maritime; land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF), and non-Emissions Trading System targets. Previously, Kelley was the Senior Manager implementing EU and International Climate Policy EPA in Ireland (2004-2010) and also served as the country's Focal Point for the Clean Development Mechanism and Joint Implementation respectively.
