Anne M. Berry

Anne Berry has been a leader in higher education advancement for more than 30 years, serving more than 20 years as a vice president and chief advancement officer. She has worked in three private liberal arts colleges, an Ivy League academic medical center, and a graduate school of business. She has guided the strategy and operation of every area of advancement. She has been recognized for her professional leadership, teaching skill, and the achievement of programs she has led. Anne joined WASHBURN & MCGOLDRICK in 2012 and has brought her experience and expertise to campaigns and philanthropic counsel at a variety of educational institutions including Gettysburg College, Carroll University, Haverford College, Middlebury College, St. Lawrence University, Lycoming College, Mount Holyoke College, Providence College, Quinnipiac University, Saint Anselm College, Stonehill College, Marist College, the University of Rhode Island Foundation, the University of Hartford, Washington College, Arcadia University and Widener University. Her independent school clients have included Hotchkiss School, Fairfield College Preparatory School, Harvard-Westlake School, Kingswood Oxford School, Miss Porter's School, Seabury Hall, Sidwell Friends School and Westover School. Anne's assignments have included advancement staff and program assessments, campaign feasibility studies, pre-campaign and campaign counsel, one-on-one coaching for vice presidents and gift officers, and a variety of workshops for board members, volunteers, staff and academic leaders. She brings a data-driven approach to her counsel and has worked with clients to design custom Soundings studies to provide information for institutional decision-making, as well as comprehensive alumni surveys and internal donor analyses to help advancement leaders and gift officers bring new focus to their efforts. Anne also serves as a lead trainer for Intensives, the firm's comprehensive program of training and professional development workshops for gift officers, volunteers and academic leaders. Before joining the firm, Anne led Lebanon Valley College's Great Expectations Campaign, an effort that exceeded its original goal by more than 38% a year ahead of schedule. As a result of her leadership, LVC's fund-raising programs were recognized with the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) "Circle of Excellence" Grand Gold award. She provided critical and creative support to the Board of Trustees Advancement, Trusteeship and Strategic Planning committees. At Saint Michael's College, she led a comprehensive campaign from the articulation and testing of priorities, through the campaign's successful conclusion. She staffed the work of the Board's Advancement Committee and chaired the Athletics Task Force and a search for an Athletic Director. Anne began her career at Franklin & Marshall College, gaining extensive experience in managing annual giving programs. She served as director of development and alumni relations at the A. B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University and launched the School's first capital campaign. As director of medical annual giving at the University of Pennsylvania, she led all School of Medicine annual giving programs and the Hospital's grateful patient campaign. Anne has served as a member of CASE's international Board of Trustees, chair of the Committee on the Profession, and chair of CASE District II, the largest of the eight CASE North American districts. She is an accomplished CASE teacher, having served as chair or faculty member for over two dozen CASE conferences including the flagship Summer Institute in Educational Fund Raising and the CASE Europe Spring Institute in Educational Fund-Raising. She received the CASE Crystal Apple Award for teaching excellence in 1997, one of the first fifty recipients of the award. Anne holds a bachelor's degree in economics and business administration from Franklin & Marshall College and completed advanced study at the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University.

Bonnie N. Devlin

Bonnie Noel Devlin has built her reputation as a strategic and creative thinker, a dynamic trainer, an accomplished manager and a results-oriented leader. She brings all those skills, 43 years of experience, and her passion for the pivotal role education plays in transforming people's lives to her role as one of WASHBURN & McGOLDRICK's managing principals and co-owners. Among her current clients are Davidson College, Denison University, Duke University, Haverford College, Mercersburg Academy, Ohio Wesleyan University, Syracuse University, The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, the University of Richmond, William & Mary and Washington and Lee University. Before joining the firm in 2008, Bonnie served Lehigh University for eight years as Vice President for Advancement. She led a staff of 75 and planned and launched Shine Forever, Lehigh's $500 million comprehensive campaign that concluded in 2009. Prior to joining Lehigh, Bonnie served the University of Pennsylvania for 14 years. She was Assistant Vice President during Penn's Agenda for Excellence campaign, focusing on endowed scholarships, minority programs and faculty chairs. As Director of Development for Schools & Centers during Penn's landmark $1.4-billion campaign in the early 1990s, she worked as "in-house" consultant to Penn's deans and center directors and to the unit development officers. When she first joined Penn in 1985, she was a school development officer for Penn's School of Nursing and the School of Social Policy and Practice. Bonnie began her career in 1980 as a capital campaign assistant at Emerson College in Boston before joining Hahnemann Medical School & Hospital in Philadelphia (now part of Drexel University) in 1982, first as development assistant and then assistant director of development. Bonnie holds a bachelor's degree in American Studies summa cum laude from Dickinson College and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She served on the Dickinson College Alumni Council from 1999 to 2006 and served 14 years on the board of Holy Child Academy in Drexel Hill, including 3 years as board chair.

Carla S. Willis

Carla Willis joined Washburn & McGoldrick in 2019, following a 25-year campus-based fundraising and consulting in higher education advancement and thought leadership. Carla has worked in just about every area of frontline advancement, including major and principal gifts, planned gifts, corporate and foundations, campaign planning and execution, and began her career in annual giving at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has worked at two Big Ten institutions, other large public universities, both public and private liberal arts colleges, law schools, an HBCU and an academic medical center. Prior to joining the firm, she served in chief advancement roles at UNC Asheville, Kean University and Florida A&M University (FAMU) (she also served in a long term interim CAO role at Saint Leo University). In each of these leadership roles Carla also led each university's foundation operations. Carla was instrumental in setting a new pace for major gift fundraising and led a fundraising feasibility study, which launched the planning and silent phase of UNC Asheville's first sizable comprehensive campaign of $100M. Additionally, it was her innovative approach to fundraising and resource investment that enabled many new platforms and social media fundraising optimization tools for the advancement offices in each of her chief advancement posts. While serving FAMU, Carla honed her corporate engagement skillsets, securing gifts from the likes of Disney, Eli Lilly, Medtronic, Northern Trust, 3M, Walmart, the Orlando Magic and Tyson Foods, to name a few. Additionally, she created and executed a CEO to CEO Forum, engaging several Fortune 500 CEOs and other executives, along with their corporations in philanthropy at FAMU. Carla is also credited with launching one of the very first higher education text to give campaigns while serving at FAMU. Carla has been part of comprehensive and capital campaigns ranging in size from $40 million to two campaigns exceeding $2.5 billion. Carla served as a major gift officer for the University of Toledo during its UT40 Campaign and as a regional director of development in the east coast for the University of Michigan Law School during its Michigan Difference Campaign, securing many principal and major gifts for these universities. She also served as an Assistant Vice President for Development for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center during its But for Ohio State Campaign and worked to close many major and principal gifts including a cross disciplinary $13.5 million dollar gift which benefited several units of the university. Carla has served a diverse range of clients including DePauw University, Duke University, Guilford College, Haverford College, Lincoln University (PA), the UNC System, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Toledo and Virginia State University. Her projects have included pre-campaign readiness assessments, feasibility studies, executive and staff coaching, staff and volunteer training. Additionally, in the late 90s Carla served as founder and principal of her own small, boutique development consulting firm, Willis Development and Communications Associates and also as a senior consultant for John Brown Limited, a boutique development consulting firm specializing in comprehensive campaigns and planned giving. Carla had a successful career at the IBM Corporation prior to beginning her career in advancement. Carla is active in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), currently serves on the CASE Industry Advisory Council and has served on the CASE Commission on Philanthropy, the District V Board of Directors and chaired the District V Committee on Equity (COE.) She is a frequent presenter at conferences on advancement related topics, leadership and more recently on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) as related to the advancement profession. In the fall of 2020 Carla earned a certification in DEI from Cornell University. Carla is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the Links, Incorporated and serves on the board of the Kendal Charitable Funds, a Quaker non-profit organization headquartered in Newark, Delaware supporting communities, programs and services for older adults.

Carme Williams

Carme Williams joins WASHBURN & McGOLDRICK after almost three decades in corporate and non-profit leadership positions. Carme's most recent experience has been in higher education advancement at Rice University, Houston Community College Foundation and Prairie View A&M University, where she served as Vice President of Development. With the firm, Carme served on the Suffolk University and Swarthmore College feasibility teams; interim vice president of advancement and alumni relations at Texas Lutheran University, and is currently serving as the interim vice president of development and alumni relations with Texas Southern University. Carme worked at Rice University from 2005 to 2013, serving as a Regional Major Gifts Director of Development and School of Humanities Director of Development during the $1 billion Centennial Campaign. Carme managed three advisory boards while at Rice and helped create campaign collateral materials for the School of Humanities funding priorities. During her time at Houston Community College Foundation, Carme secured a historic gift of $7.5 million for a new Fire Fighter Academy, increased the number of scholarships awarded three-fold and helped increase the foundation's endowment by 20%. Under her leadership, the board of directors developed an intentional focus on securing resources for the Chancellor's priorities. In 2018, Carme was named Vice President of Development for Prairie View A&M University. The philanthropic revenue grew by 48% during her tenure at the university. Carme created the first Annual Report from the Office of Development, first comprehensive Donor Endowment Report and University Giving Societies. Also, under Carme's leadership a comprehensive stewardship program was created. Carme is an experienced leader in alumni relations, donor relations, principal and major gifts, stewardship programs, dean and faculty development, board development, and communications. Carme is an instructor at the Rice University Center for Nonprofit Leadership, where she is currently teaching a course titled Art of Fundraising - Advanced Principles and Practices: Strategic Planning and Fundraising. Carme is also an instructor for the Center for Nonprofits & Philanthropy's Certificate of Fundraising Leadership in The Bush School at Texas A&M University. Carme received a bachelor's degree from the Poole College of Management at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC and received her Certified Fundraising Executive certification in 2009. She served on the NC State University Wolfpack Women in Philanthropy Steering Committee as the inaugural Chair of the Philanthropy Committee and is a current member of the North Carolina State University Foundation Board. Carme is also a board member of the United Nations Houston Chapter, the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce, the Charitable Planned Giving Council of Houston, and African American Development Officers (AADO).

Chris M. Biehn

Chris has over 35 years of experience as a leader in higher and secondary education. His primary areas of focus are engagement, philanthropy, external relations, board development, leadership coaching and strategic planning. He believes that sustainable philanthropy, inspired by meaningful engagement, can transform our world. For the past 21 years he has served as chief advancement officer at four prominent institutions. His vision has inspired teams to create strategies designed to deliver results and measurable growth. He is highly skilled in process design, development, and successful execution of multi-year year strategic and campaign plans. Chris is also an experienced coach to staff, leadership, and board members. He is optimistic, has a healthy sense of humor, and a passion for leadership and organizational development. Currently he is serving as vice president for institutional advancement at St. John Fisher College. He is leading the largest comprehensive campaign in the college's history, Fisher Forward now over goal prior to the original deadline. Prior to that he served as vice president, college relations and advancement at Ithaca College. There, Chris focused on planning and executing a successful campaign. He was also responsible for marketing, public relations, and crisis communications. He led in the creation of a student to alumni paradigm which supports the integrations of enrollment, student educational experience, and alumni engagement. Chris led the development of a strategy around inclusive excellence in the advancement division to ensure that alumni, parents, and friends are aligned with the campus philosophy and approach. Prior to Ithaca College, Chris served as the vice president for university advancement at Drew University where he led the development of the institutional strategic plan. He also reinvigorated the comprehensive fundraising campaign while aligning the advancement teams to increase philanthropic and engagement results. Before Drew, Chris served as the chief advancement officer for the Williston Northampton School in Easthampton, Massachusetts where he also taught a senior elective course in philosophy and served as assistant secretary to the trustees. He designed and led a comprehensive campaign to successful conclusion. The campaign was three times as large as the previous one, focusing on the growth of unrestricted endowment, capital projects, and sustainable growth of the school's annual fund. Chris loves travel, the Adirondacks, snow skiing and waterskiing, running, and organizational design and leadership. He earned his B.A. in philosophy from Hobart College. His passion for philosophy is a core element in his leadership style and he often will apply philosophical paradigms to frame his work.

Chris Marshall

Chris Marshall is a senior higher education advancement professional with over two decades of alumni engagement and fundraising experience. He spent twelve years leading alumni relations programs at two top ranked national research universities - Lehigh University (seven years) and Cornell University (five years). Chris spent five years of experience as an alumni relations consultant for Grenzebach Glier and Associates (GG+A) where he was Senior Vice President and Managing Director. While at GG+A, Chris led the Alumni Relations practice area and worked with over 100 clients around the world. Chris then spent two years as President of Graduway North America. Graduway is the world's leading provider of alumni networking and career mentoring software. Trusted by thousands of educational institutions to engage alumni and provide career guidance to students. In April of 2019, Chris launched his own company - Chris Marshall Advancement Consulting (CMAC) - that focuses on providing guidance, planning, and strategy ("GPS") for alumni engagement. To date, Chris has worked with over 200 colleges and universities on their alumni engagement strategies.

Cynthia Khoo-Robinson

Cynthia Khoo-Robinson joined WASHBURN & McGOLDRICK following her retirement from the University at Buffalo in 2022. She is an accomplished advancement professional with 30 plus years of broad-based experience and a deep passion for philanthropy. While at UB, she served as the Associate Vice President of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving, managing a team of 28 advancement professionals in her two departments. She led fundraising strategies for an annual giving program that raised over $6 million annually, increasing participation from alumni and securing 100 percent support from the Alumni Association Board. In her four years at UB, she created a best-in-class alumni engagement program that integrated with advancement overall. She successfully merged the Offices of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving into a cohesive team that better supports the university, alumni, and donor constituents. Cynthia graduated from Berea College, where she learned the fundamentals of institutional advancement. She benefited from philanthropy at Berea, which fueled her passion for advancement. She volunteered multiple times a year as a student phonathon caller and made donor visits with a gift officer that resulted in a $10,000 gift. Her first professional job was at the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine, as an Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Relations. After five years, she left UC to become the Director of Advancement for Hospice of the Miami Valley (HMV). When HMV was bought out by a for-profit hospice, Cynthia joined St. Ursula Academy (SUA) as its first full-time Director of Development and Alumnae Relations. She built the foundation of a strong advancement program for the all-girls Catholic high school and was promoted to Vice President of Advancement midway during her 16-year tenure at SUA. Cynthia led a team of eight and continuously grew the annual fund while implementing three capital campaigns that raised over $25 million for the small independent school. She contributed to the expansion of the school from one acre to 10 acres with the addition of two new buildings, renovation of several others and helped grow the endowment from $300,000 to over $3 million. Following SUA, Cynthia returned to UC as a Director of Development. After two years as a frontline fundraiser, she was promoted to Executive Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship. She focused on promoting positive and mutually rewarding relationships between the university and its donors; partnering with development directors across 17 colleges/units to determine the best strategies for effective donor stewardship; networking with internal and external constituencies; and advising on the facilitation of recognition events and coordination of activities for donor societies across campus. Cynthia was promoted again after three years to Assistant Vice President of Presidential Initiatives and Assistant Vice President of Advancement/Deputy Campaign Director. In her Deputy Campaign Director role, she collaborated on five leadership imperatives ranging from $30 million to $300 million.

Dan Lowman

Dan Lowman joined WASHBURN & McGOLDRICK as a Senior Data Analytics Consultant in November 2022. An internationally known expert in fundraising analytics and data analysis, Dan spent 23 years in various leadership roles at Grenzebach Glier and Associates, including Senior Vice President, Analytics, advising nonprofit clients on how to make the best use of data. Dan's many accomplishments include leading the team that developed DonorScape, the first-ever web-based wealth screening service, whose features and functions are now the industry standard. He also co-led the development of Major Gift Portfolio Optimization, which not only prioritized prospects by capacity and likelihood, but also analyzed donors and prospects based on their most likely school, unit, or area for support. In 2015, Dan founded Survey Lab, which has worked with hundreds of organizations on alumni and donor surveys, as well as specialized surveys and focus groups, including surveys of academic leaders; augmented feasibility studies; and provided real-time feedback about donor satisfaction. Dan volunteered with the US Peace Corps in Slovakia for nearly three years, working on education projects and bringing internet to rural schools. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he continues to be deeply involved as a volunteer. He focuses on helping students and young graduates from underserved backgrounds achieve success in their career searches. His expertise on data visualization makes Dan a sought-after presenter across the US and around the world. Dan works with WASHBURN & McGOLDRICK clients with their data analytics, survey, benchmarking, and predictive modeling needs. Eileen Bertsch Donahue

Eileen Donahue joined WASHBURN & McGOLDRICK in 2019 after a successful career as an attorney, probate judge, and senior advancement director at Yale University. She is respected for her straightforward, creative, and personalized approach to philanthropy and gift planning for donors at every level of giving, as well as for her strategic contributions in closing significant, multifaceted gifts. Eileen was named Yale's Director of Planned Giving in 2003. During her sixteen years in that role, she was responsible for all aspects of the university's planned giving program, including the marketing, solicitation, stewardship, and administration of bequests, life income gifts, donated securities, real estate, and other non-cash assets. Eileen guided the design and implementation of a highly effective marketing and communications strategy for planned gifts and led the expansion of gift planning training opportunities for advancement staff across the university. She launched Yale Legacy Partners, the university's first recognition society for planned gift donors, and grew its membership to 2,300 donors. She also oversaw the creation and management of Yale's donor advised program and established and administered a registered charity in the United Kingdom with dual tax benefits for Yale donors in the U.S. and U.K. Under Eileen's leadership, Yale's undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools, libraries, museums, and athletics department doubled the number of new bequest intentions and raised over $700 million in planned gifts during the 2004-2011 Yale Tomorrow campaign. In 2012, Eileen was appointed Yale's Senior Philanthropic Advisor and assumed additional responsibilities for working closely with university leaders, donors, and their professional advisors in providing key support for the structuring and closing of Yale's most generous and transformative gifts. Since joining the WASHBURN & McGOLDRICK team, Eileen has provided planned giving counsel and training to numerous clients including Princeton University, Imperial College London, Syracuse University, St. Lawrence University, Vassar College, Providence College, University of Richmond, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, United States Golf Association, Denison University, Rollins College, University of Rhode Island Foundation, William and Mary, Miss Porter's School, and Fairfield College Preparatory School, among others. Prior to her work in educational advancement, Eileen served for ten years as Probate Judge for the District of North Haven, Connecticut, presiding over cases involving decedents' estates and trusts and a wide range of sensitive matters affecting children, seniors, and individuals with intellectual and psychiatric disabilities. During her tenure at the Probate Court, Eileen assumed increasingly progressive leadership positions within the Connecticut Probate Assembly, the statewide association of probate judges. She began her legal career as an attorney in private practice, focusing on estate planning, probate, real estate, and civil litigation. Eileen received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of New Rochelle and her Juris Doctor degree from Boston College Law School. She has served as a member of numerous non-profit and civic boards and commissions.

Jenna A. Reynolds

Jenna joins WASHBURN & McGOLDRICK after working for the past six years in Institutional Advancement at Ithaca College, her alma mater. Jenna first began her advancement career at the College working as Assistant to the Vice President. She was promoted to Leadership Gift Officer and then served as the division's Senior Prospect Researcher. Before working in higher education, Jenna worked for the Pritzker family at Hyatt's corporate offices in Chicago. In her position there she supported the President, General Counsel, and Chairman at Hyatt Gaming, Inc. Following her work at Hyatt she spent several years pursuing a doctoral degree in Clinical Forensic Psychology. In addition to her undergraduate degree in psychology from Ithaca College, she also has a master's degree in criminology from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. Jenna brings her love of working with people and passion for learning to this position. In her free time, Jenna enjoys painting, gardening, and spending time with her husband James, an elementary special education teacher, and their two daughters Olivia (5) and Hazel (2). She also loves working on their farmhouse, which was built when Abraham Lincoln was president! Jenna is thrilled to be starting this new adventure as a member of the WASHBURN & McGOLDRICK team.

Karin L. George

Karin George joined WASHBURN & MCGOLDRICK in 2005, following a 19-year campus-based career that began immediately after graduating from Smith College in 1986. Her leadership, teaching and strategic skills have made her a sought-after speaker at professional meetings and a respected colleague at the institutions she has served as a campus officer and a consultant. She began her career at St. Lawrence University as assistant director of annual giving in 1986 and was promoted to director of annual giving in 1989. In 1991, she moved on to Vassar College and a position as director of annual and special gifts. In February 1995 she was appointed vice president for development at Vassar and brought its campaign to a successful close with a total of $206 million. Karin was then appointed Vice President for Advancement at her alma mater in 1999. She led Smith's $250 million campaign effort, This is about Smith. She serves a diverse range of clients including Providence College, The Governors Academy, Mount Holyoke College, Ohio University, Colby College, Knox College, North Carolina State University, The College of Wooster, SUNY Potsdam, Vassar College, Wells College, and Wheaton College (MA). Karin was a trustee (2003-05) of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and served as chair of the Committee on the Profession. She was a member of the faculty of CASE's Summer Institute in Educational Fundraising from 2000-2004 and served on the faculty of CASE's Advancement Management Institute from 2003-2005. Karin was the founding Chair of CASE's Minority Advancement Institute in 2006. She is a recipient of CASE's distinguished Steuben Apple Award for teaching excellence. Karin earned her BA in art history at Smith College. She illustrated the mural section of Diego Rivera: A Retrospective, (Founders Society Detroit Institute of Art, in association with W.W. Norton and Company, New York 1986). She is Vice-Chair of the board of trustees of the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts. Karin is an avid marathoner and lives with her family in Florence, Massachusetts.

Nancy E. Cook

Nancy Cook joins WASHBURN & McGOLDRICK as a Project Manager after more than three decades in national nonprofit leadership positions. Nancy has worked with the Navy SEAL Foundation as Director of Teams, where she directed peer-to-peer fundraising efforts and launched the TEAMWORK Fitness Challenge in Imperial Beach, California. Her prior work includes volunteer engagement, corporate philanthropy, and peer-to-peer fundraising with the American Cancer Society for more than 24 years. She initiated, directed, and grew the Relay For Life National Corporate Team program from four to more than 60 companies, raising more than $20 million each year through peer-to-peer fundraising. Since leaving the Society, she has worked as a consultant for several nonprofits, including the Arthritis Foundation and the Massachusetts Academy of General Dentistry Foundation. Nancy currently serves as a board member of the Western Mass Distance Project. She is an active Toastmaster, having served in various leadership roles. She transformed her Tall Tales contest speech into a best-selling children's book, Skiing Is Believing, about teaching self-confidence to children through sport. Nancy is a coach and avid multisport athlete, marathon runner, and four-time Ironman triathlete. She is currently an American record holder in the marathon for the indoor rower and a gold, silver and bronze medalist in the 2023 World Indoor Rowing Championships. Nancy is a PSIA Level 3 professional ski instructor for the past 25 years, currently teaching at Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont. She earned her Bachelor of Science in physical education from Castleton State College, where she played basketball and field hockey and sang in the college choir. She lives in Western Massachusetts with her family and two Labrador retrievers.

Randall W. Smith

Randall W. "Randy" Smith joined WASHBURN & McGOLDRICK in January 2022 after completing a 25+ year career at Vanderbilt University. He has worked with a variety of clients, including Bellarmine University, the Center of Theological Inquiry, Denison University, DePauw University, Duke University, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Haverford College, and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Ryan Catherwood currently serves as Vice President at CMAC and as Senior Consultant with WASHBURN & McGOLDRICK. Ryan specializes in engagement strategies for volunteer and donor pipeline development that are rooted in a digital-first, content-based approach to advancement in support of education. His clients include Duke University, William & Mary, the University of Maryland Alumni Association, and the Indiana University foundation. Before joining CMAC in 2021, Ryan led the Office of Alumni & Career Services at Longwood University. His early leadership roles in advancement included marketing and digital engagement responsibilities at the University of Virginia and Washington and Lee University. Early in his career, Ryan gained event operations experience in the hospitality industry through positions as a banquet manager, convention services manager, and conference and event sales.

Steven J. Devlin

Steven J. Devlin, Ph.D. has a broad research background specializing in national surveys, program evaluation, and relational databases. After a career in gerontology and higher education, Steve joined Washburn & McGoldrick in September 2012 as its data consultant. Since then, he has developed and analyzed over 500 surveys and conducted data analyses for over 100 clients. These projects include alumni surveys, censuses, training evaluations, feasibility studies, and benchmarking based on CASE's Annual Voluntary Support of Education. Dr. Devlin has an undergraduate degree from Dickinson College (B.A., Psychology, 1980), a Master's degree from Boston University (Ed.M., Counseling Psychology, 1981), and a Doctorate from Temple University (Ph.D., Educational Psychology, 1991).

Susan H. Pettyjohn

Susan Pettyjohn joined Washburn & McGoldrick in 2016 after 26 years in higher education advancement work at William and Mary and Appalachian State University. During her time at William and Mary from 1990 until 2007, Susan oversaw all areas of development and was the primary administrator for the William & Mary Endowment Association. Susan became interim vice president in 2005 and during this time, she was instrumental in the successful conclusion of the $500 million Campaign for William and Mary in 2006. In 2007, Susan became the Vice Chancellor for Advancement at Appalachian State University. She led the assessment, reorganization, planning, and implementation that culminated in the successful conclusion of the $200 million Campaign for Appalachian, Making a Difference in the World, One Student at a Time. Her leadership of the ASU Foundation as President helped to develop a strong and vital board of directors and a more effective strategy for investing. In addition to Susan's success in fundraising, her strengths and experiences include organizational assessment and management, strategic planning, campaign planning, and board development. She is also very experienced with alumni relations, advancement services, budget management, donor relations, town and gown relations and programs, events planning, annual giving, and communications. Susan has been on the faculty of the National Planned Giving Institute at William & Mary and attended the Cornell Administrative Management Institute. Since joining Washburn & McGoldrick, Susan has worked with both public and private colleges and universities as well as the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Clients she has served include Western Carolina University, Rollins College, St. Catherine University, NC State University, Towson University, Wheaton College in Massachusetts, Denison University, the College of Charleston, Virginia State University, Vassar, the University System of Maryland Foundation, and the UNC System. Her counsel has included feasibility studies, program assessments, campaign planning, training and coaching for major gifts as well as managers of fundraisers, workshops for academic and administrative leaders as well as leadership volunteers, strategic planning for institutionally related foundations, and development of programs for women philanthropists. Susan also has been an instructor for the company's Intensives training program for major gifts, deans, and volunteer leaders. Most recently she has been part of the team that has developed the on-line version of Intensives and is one of the primary instructors. Susan received a Bachelor of Music degree from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education from William and Mary. She serves on the Development Board for the School of Education at William & Mary and is a member of the Steering Committee of the Society of 1918, William & Mary's women in philanthropy program. Susan spent many years sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and she taught sailing to women for several years.

Susan L. Washburn

Sue Washburn has more than 45 years of experience in educational advancement in both public and private higher education. Recognized as a leader in the profession, Sue is known as a strategic thinker, an expert in donor motivation, and an outstanding teacher and speaker. She has used her breadth of experience in governance, development, alumni relations and communications in consulting relationships with colleges, universities and schools in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. Integrating her knowledge and experience with her desire to help others perform their advancement responsibilities well, she joined Bill McGoldrick to establish WASHBURN & MCGOLDRICK in 1995. Sue began her development career as a campaign staff member at her alma mater, Franklin & Marshall College. She served on the campaign staff at St. Lawrence University in the 1970's before becoming Vice President for Development at Centenary College. During nine years at The Evergreen State College, her responsibilities included Vice President for Development and Administration and Executive Director of The Evergreen Foundation. In these roles, she served as chief advancement officer and chief financial officer of the College. From 1988-1996, Sue returned to St. Lawrence to serve as Vice President for University Relations.

Timothy J. Lawlor

Tim joined Washburn & McGoldrick after 32 years of advancement work in higher education and independent schools. First joining his alma mater, Stonehill College, in 1985 as Director of the Annual Fund, Tim rose to serve the College as Director of Development during the institution's first-ever capital campaign and then as Assistant Vice President for Advancement and Campaign Director for Stonehill's Attaining the Summit Campaign which secured a record-setting $59.5 million for capital projects and endowment. In 2012, Tim joined the independent school sector as the Chief Development Officer at Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart where he built a development team and led a successful $10 million campaign for the construction of a new wellness center. In 2014, Tim was named Vice President at Ursuline Academy where he oversaw advancement initiatives that, for the first time, eclipsed $1 million in annual support and secured over $9 million for a new athletic & convocation center while also serving as a senior advisor to the President on matters of finance, enrollment, personnel, and community relations. Active in CASE, Tim has served on the District I Board of Directors, two years as District Chair, and on the CASE Commission of Philanthropy. In 2016, Tim was recognized by his peers in District I with the Carol and Stephen Hebert Award for outstanding contributions to CASE District I. Tim has also served on the Board of Trustees of Ursuline Academy, the Board of Directors of the Dedham Community Association, and the Parent's Executive Committee at Colby College. Since joining Washburn & McGoldrick, Tim has provided philanthropic counsel and conducted feasibility studies and program assessments for a variety of clients including Le Moyne College, St. Francis College, Mount Holyoke College, the University of New Hampshire, Wheaton College, the Providence College, Notre Dame Academy, Kingswood Oxford School, and Fairfield College Preparatory High School.

William P. McGoldrick

Since 1971, Bill McGoldrick has built a reputation as a successful professional and an outstanding teacher, speaker and consultant. His skills, experience and passion for education led him to join Sue Washburn to establish WASHBURN & MCGOLDRICK in 1995. Bill has consulted at many of the finest universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Canada and Australia, providing strategic advice; board, volunteer and staff training; campaign planning and counsel; campaign readiness studies; advancement program planning and assessment; retreat facilitation; and alumni relations and communications program reviews. Bill served Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as Director of Development for five years and as Vice President for eleven years leading the alumni relations, communications and development programs, and two campaigns. He was also major gift director at The College of William and Mary, and public relations director at SUNY Oswego and at Harrisburg (PA) Area Community College. He has been active regionally, nationally and internationally with the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and served on CASE's Board of Trustees. He has been a faculty member at many professional development programs sponsored by CASE and the Association of Governing Boards and has been a faculty member at several of CASE's flagship educational fund-raising conferences. Bill earned a bachelor's degree from Siena College and a master's degree from Syracuse University. He served two years as Public Affairs Officer in the United States Navy. He is active in many community organizations and serves on the Board of Trustees of Siena College, where he chairs the Governance Committee, and is a former member of the Board Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany where he still serves on the Development Committee.
