CAMP JOHNSON

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont - On May 12, a day after representatives from the Vermont National Guard and the Republic of Austria formally entered into a State Partner Program, Austrian Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner and staff were provided with rotary-wing flight demonstrations at Camp Johnson, the Vermont National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Colchester, Vermont.

Gen. David Manfredi

Brig. Gen. David Manfredi is the Director of Joint Staff and Army Chief of Staff, Joint Force Headquarters, Vermont National Guard. General Manfredi was commissioned in 1989 through the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, as an Infantry Officer. He has served on active duty with the 10th Mountain Division, and with the Army National Guard in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Vermont, where he has served since 2003. His command assignments include Detachment Commander of the 173rd Long Range Surveillance Detachment in the Rhode Island Army National Guard, Battalion Commander of 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry, and Regimental Commander of the 124th Regiment (RTI) of the Vermont Army National Guard. His significant staff assignments in the Vermont Army National Guard include Training Division Chief of the Army Mountain Warfare School, Executive Officer of 3-172 Infantry, S-3 and Executive Officer of the 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, and G-1, G-3, and Chief of Staff for the Vermont Army National Guard. General Manfredi deployed to Afghanistan twice in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

MAJOR GENERAL GREGORY KNIGHT

Maj. Gen. Gregory Knight is the Adjutant General, Vermont National Guard, having been selected by the Vermont legislature in 2019. General Knight has 35 years of uniformed service, 22 years of commissioned service and 13 years of prior enlisted service. He started his enlisted career with the U.S. Coast Guard in October 1983, serving six years and separating from the service as a Yeoman Second Class (E-5) in October 1989. Following his service with the Coast Guard, General Knight pursued a career in Vermont law enforcement, serving four years as a Burlington Police Officer and seven years as the Chief Liquor Investigator with the Department of Liquor Control. Concurrent with his law enforcement career, General Knight continued his military career as a traditional Guardsman, serving seven years with the Vermont Air National Guard as a Security Forces Specialist. General Knight joined the Vermont Army National Guard in 1997, obtaining his commission and serving three years as a traditional National Guard officer. General Knight was selected for Active Guard and Reserve duty in June of 2000, and served in this status until his election as Vermont Adjutant General.

Scott Beaulieu

Chief Warrant Officer-5 Scott Beaulieu is the Command Chief Warrant Officer, Vermont National Guard. In this role, he advises the Adjutant General, the Assistant Adjutant General-Army, and their staff on all issues pertaining to policies, programs and actions impacting the warrant officer cohort, including professional development, promotions, assignments, incentives, morale, discipline, performance, strength, and recruiting programs. Beaulieu enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army in 1986, serving as an Attack Helicopter Weapon Systems Repairman. He joined the Vermont Army National Guard in 1989 as an Air Traffic Controller and deployed in 1991 with the 150th Air Traffic Control Platoon during Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He attended Officer Candidate School and appointed a Warrant Officer in 1997. Beaulieu deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 with Headquarters Company, 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Mountain) as the Deputy Chief of Personnel, providing executive administrative support to more than 1,500 Soldiers.

Vermont Army

Command Sgt. Maj. Paul Edwards is the senior enlisted leader of the Vermont Army National Guard. In this role, he advises the adjutant general on all issues related to Vermont's enlisted Soldiers. Edwards was born and raised in Haverhill, Massachusetts, and moved to South Burlington, Vermont, in 1988 after graduating from the University of Massachusetts, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1981 and attended basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and advanced training at the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia as an Infantryman. He was initially assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 182nd Infantry, and later attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as an Infantry second lieutenant in 1983. Edwards served in a variety of assignments as a commissioned officer, including rifle platoon leader, heavy mortar platoon leader, company executive officer, and company commander. He also held battalion staff positions in the Personnel, Intelligence, and Logistics sections. After his commissioned service he returned to the enlisted ranks and served as a rifle squad leader, mortar squad leader, drill sergeant, operations sergeant, Army ROTC instructor, 11B NCO Education System chief instructor, company first sergeant, and as a command sergeant major at both the battalion and brigade levels.
