I've had many, many teachers, therapists, coaches and guides through my life - some intentional and some accidental - and I am deeply grateful for all of them. In the end, though, I'd have to say that my primary teacher has been "Experience." I can remember a particular afternoon, after I'd been coaching and leading workshops professionally for well over ten years, when I had this sudden realization that I never, ever used the communication tool I was teaching at that moment… and how dry and empty that felt. I promised myself, and my participants, at that moment, that I would not teach anything I hadn't experienced and used myself. That was a huge turning point in my clarity and effectiveness. Authenticity matters. So I draw from many different sources and experiences when I work with others, but, again, my main tool for coaching/teaching is working on/with myself, in whatever ways I can find that open my awareness and extend my ability to love, joyfully.
