Anabella Smith

Anabella Smith, ID studied architecture at the Universidad Simón Bolívar in Caracas and received her bachelor's degree from Florida International University's College of Architecture + the Arts. She has been creating sophisticated branded environments that generate value for multifamily, office, retail, and healthcare environments, as well as entertainment venues for over 30 years. Anabella is a principal of the award winning architectural firm, Zyscovich, and she has been the firm's Director of Interior Architecture for over 25 years. Known for resolving complex programming and operational challenges, Anabella's commitment to a design process that results in innovative solutions exemplifies the firm's dedication to quality, elegance, and an economy of means. By promoting the use of renewable materials and resources, Anabella has advanced the sustainable design protocol of Zyscovich, resulting in the creation of healthier indoor environments. Her leadership has energized the Zyscovich Interior Design Studio and has inspired young, emerging professionals to reach the highest levels of the profession. Anabella was appointed by the Coral Gables City Commission and City Manager to the City's Green Task Force, which advises Coral Gables officials on environmental issues that support a sustainable community. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Trustees for the Doral Business Council. She was also on the Miami Dade County Art in Public Places Advisory Board and the Coral Gables Actor's Playhouse Advisory Board. For nearly a decade, Anabella has also served on the Advisory Board of her alma mater, FIU's College of Architecture + the Arts. She was recently invited to participate on a panel of independent judges for Record Products, the annual competition of Architectural Record, which scrutinizes and assesses the industry's latest building materials, finishes and furnishings. Over the years Anabella has received multiple awards, including the AIA Miami Award of Excellence in Interior Architecture for the renovation of the Crystal Plaza residential tower in Arlington, VA, the Award of Excellence in Architecture for the Flamingo South Beach, and the Honor Award of Excellence in Architecture for Miami Beach's Lincoln Cinema. In 2004 she was name the AIA Miami Interior Designer of the Year, and in 2008 she was named Women Extraordinaire of South Florida by Business Leader Magazine. In 2011 she received the FIU Alumni Association's Torch Award, which was established to honor alumni who have had a positive impact on their profession, the community and the university.

John Cunningham

John is the Managing Principal of Zyscovich's Orlando office in Winter Park, Florida. He is locally, regionally and nationally published for his award-winning design contributions to various projects integrating authentic architecture with art and landscape. John has lectured locally and nationally and has taught in the Master of Civic Urbanism Program as adjunct professor at Rollins College in the theories and real world applications of Vernacular Florida Architecture including Placemaking, Design, Transit Oriented Development, and City Planning/Urban Design. John has in-depth national projects to his credit on important landmark projects including The White House, The Old Executive Building (Office of the Vice President) and the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. John's projects in Florida include the new $275M Hyatt Regency Hotel/Convention Center (formerly Peabody) Expansion, Ritz-Carlton Hotel Downtown Sarasota, Hard Rock Hotel In Orlando, City of Orlando/DDB Redevelopment of the Downtown U.S. Post Office, new Maitland City Hall/Fire Station in downtown Maitland, 121 Alhambra Towers and Ponce de Leon Towers of Coral Gables, 26 projects for Rollins College, American Institute of Architects award-winning banks in the City of Orlando/Winter Park for SunTrust Bank. John's achievements are founded on 33 years of study and practice of art, architecture and history. His research, travel and professional experience has led John to four continents and 27 countries.

Larry Rosenbloom

Larry has more than 35 years of architectural design experience and brings a deep understanding of the northeast region of the United States as both an architect and urban designer. His considerable body of work includes mixed-use, retail, large-scale municipal infrastructure/transportation projects and transit oriented development communities throughout the northeast. In recent years, he has developed designs for metropolitan New York transportation agencies to create Transit Oriented Development (TOD) communities. Having represented both the private and government sectors, he has proven expertise in resolving the challenges associated with complex urban projects. For example, Larry has received local and national recognition for his visionary role in the transformation of the New 42 nd Street in New York City, NY. Once known as a blighted area of Manhattan, 42 nd Street has become a vibrant, family friendly destination spot known for its retail shops and theatres that lead up to New York City's Times Square. Additionally, Larry has extensive expertise in both the execution of rollout programs for national retailers and the development of modified prototypes for urban environments. Larry is a member of the Board of Directors of Vision Long Island and has served as a consultant to key transportation agencies.

Mario Suarez

Mario Suarez, a Partner at Zyscovich with over 32 years of experience, is responsible for leading several of the firm's major national and international projects, including airport terminals for passengers and cargo, government and corporate offices in South Florida, as well as major mixed-use urban facilities, including hotels, shopping and luxury multi-family housing.

Mike McGuinn

Michael McGuinn, with Zyscovich since 2003, has over two decades of architectural design and project management experience, with specialized areas of expertise in K-12 and Higher Education Facility Design, United States Department of Defense Facility Design, and Sustainable Design. McGuinn has served as the Project Director, Project Manager, or QA/QC Reviewer on over 100 educational projects, ranging from K-12 to Higher Education and Campus Planning. Mike has substantial experience in the design of educational facilities to achieve maximum operational efficiencies for both first time and operational costs. He is also extremely knowledgeable of the programming and security constraints faced by educational facilities that are shared by the community and has been highly successful at guiding the design of facilities for land poor/tight budget projects to effectively accommodate multiple community uses. Notable recent works include the new Palm Beach State College Dr. Dennis P. Gallon Campus, the Miami Country Day School Center for the Arts, and Pine Jog Elementary School, which was the first LEED Gold certified public school in Florida. Responsible for leading and growing the firm's Federal and DoD practice, McGuinn has led all of the firm's projects in the federal practice with NAVFAC, USACE and DoDEA, including the Maxwell Elementary-Middle School Partial Replacement and Renovation, the Welch Elementary-Dover Air Base Middle Schools Replacement, and the Kaiserslautern Middle School Replacement and the DoDEA Europe East New District Superintendent's Office at USAG Kaiserslautern in Germany. McGuinn has a deep understanding of effective sustainable design, including USGBC LEED submission guidelines and requirements, as well as numerous other sustainable rating and certification systems, having successfully designed projects up to the Platinum Certification level. He has managed all phases of facility design and construction including pre-design, programming, design development, construction documents, quality control/assurance review, and construction administration and has been involved in all phases of project development. An active Florida Educational Facilities Planners' Association (FEFPA) and Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Member, Mike was the presenter/author of the SAME Webinar "Designing Federal Facilities to Enhance Organizational Creativity and Collaboration" and a collaborative author of "Increasing Asset Value Through Creative Solutions," published in The Military Engineer. He also recently authored and presented "A Roadmap to Take a Project from Inception to Groundbreaking and Beyond" for the Florida Charter School Conference. Mike has consistently expanded his professional knowledge through continuing education courses such as "School Security and Facility Hardening Projects," "Naval Training in Trends in Terrorism and How to Mitigate Terrorist Threats," and "RediCheck Training in Quality Control on Interdisciplinary Coordination." Mike earned a professional Bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Miami and a Master of Science in Construction Management from Florida International University.
