Abigail Combes, Assistant Coroner, wrote a Prevention of Future Deaths report naming a further six actions that need to be addressed by Sheffield Children's Hospital. This report was published in October 2023.
The jury inquest conclusion read: "Following several assessments in hospital James was misdiagnosed and was not provided with treatment in line with departmental guidance. He developed sepsis and died at home on 13 May 2022. His death was contributed to by neglect. In response, the hospital has appointed Emma Nicholson to oversee training to ensure recognition of sepsis.
Since the incident Helen has worked closely with Sheffield Children's Hospital and has allowed James's story to be used at the hospital for training for recognising and treating sepsis. She has also assisted them in appointing a Sepsis Nurse, where she was in attendance during the recruitment process.

Alex Nolan is a qualified solicitor who joined Howells Criminal Law department after obtaining his master's degree in Professional Legal Practice (LLM). He is accredited as a Magistrate's Court duty solicitor, and a police station representative who regularly attends clients in custody around the counties courts and police stations.
Alex has recently been conferred with Higher Rights of Audience to appear in the Crown Court.
Alex has a passion for criminal law, human rights, and legal information technology developments.
As a result of his work on a high profile murder case Alex was given a commendation by a High Court Judge.

Amy is an experienced solicitor practicing in all areas of medical negligence. This includes cases involving delay in diagnosis, delay in treating cancer, surgical negligence, and has a particular interest in injuries during birth.
Amy joined Howells in 2008 as a caseworker, progressing to a team leader role and then completed her training to become a Solicitor with Howells.

Caroline worked as a paralegal focusing on contractual civil disputes before joining the Matrimonial Team at Howells Solicitors in August 2019. She completed her training contract with Howells in December 2021. After gaining experience in Family Law, Conveyancing, and Wills, Trusts and Probate, she now exclusively works within the Matrimonial Team.

Charlotte is the head of the Children Law department at Howells and a senior solicitor leading the Care team at our Rotherham and Barnsley Office. Charlotte specialises in proceedings relating to children, including special guardianship and social care involvement. Charlotte represents both parents and children in care proceedings. She has worked at Howells for over 13 years and has been a qualified Solicitor in our Children Law team for 10 years.

Chloe is a paralegal and is currently working within our Criminal Department.
Chloe is currently studying with the Open University to obtain her Bachelor's Degree in Law whilst working full time. She is currently undertaking studies in the SQE to hopefully qualify as a solicitor in the future.
Chloe is also in the process of obtaining her police accreditation to be able to advise and assist clients that are in custody or are to be interviewed on a voluntary basis.
Prior to starting as a paralegal, Chloe has experience within the Immigration Department as a secretary and has experience in dealing with asylum and deportation cases before moving to the Criminal Department in 2020 where she has gained a wealth of knowledge with matters that are under investigation with the police as well as cases that have progressed to the Magistrates' Court and the Crown Court.

Elizabeth is a paralegal and is currently working within our Medical Negligence, Personal Injury and Inquests Department.
Elizabeth graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2022 with a First-Class Honours degree in Law. She has since commenced her Legal Practice Course on a part-time basis, whilst working alongside her studies.
Prior to joining Howells, Elizabeth worked for a not-for-profit, social justice law firm, in a public facing role dealing with matters both criminal and civil natured.

She also previously worked in Post Completions for a year so has a thorough understanding of a transaction from start to finish.

Lindsey is a solicitor and partner at Howells Solicitors. She joined the firm in 2004 following a period of training and working as a solicitor in London for almost 10 years. Lindsey qualified as a solicitor in 1999 and has exclusively specialised in Wills Trusts and Probate (WT&P) since 2014. Her previous experience is in litigation and she is able to use her experience in this area when dealing with probate disputes.
