Founded as Budgetax in 1982, our mission statement remains today "you can afford expert income tax preparation." In 2002 we partnered with Tax Partners and expanded our practice to become one of the largest tax preparation services in Springfield, Illinois. We are not one of those large tax store chains. These chains make you think they are the lowest price providers when in fact they have been raising their prices dramatically each and every year! I recently read the 10 K report of a large tax chain store. Virtually all of their offices are franchised. Because they are a franchise chain, the local office is required to pay the home company a franchise fee. In the case of this tax preparation chain, 19 % of the fee paid by the client for tax preparation was ear marked for franchise fees. Crazy stuff. And probably not disclosed to the client... 2.
