Catherine E. Chace

Catherine Chace, a Rhode Island native, started with Advanced Dermatology in September 2018. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northeastern University in Boston, MA in 2014, going on to complete her Masters of Science in Nursing at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI. When not in the office, she enjoys traveling with her husband, baking and outdoor activities including biking, golfing and walks with her two Boston Terriers.

Christy L. Socha

Christy earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Saint Joseph's College in Hartford, CT. She then completed her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Connecticut with Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society for Nursing. Christy has been practicing at Advanced Dermatology since we opened in 2005.

Dr. David Chen

A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Dr. David Chen began his training in the prestigious combined undergraduate/medical school Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University, Illinois. He graduated summa cum laude with a major in Biomedical Engineering, and received the Lyle F. Mockros and the James A. Patten Scholarship awards as the most outstanding graduate of the department. Dr. Chen received his M.D. from Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. During his time in medical school, he performed basic sciences research in the Paller lab, winning research grants from Alpha Omega Alpha and the American Skin Association. Dr. Chen completed a transitional year at the University of Hawaii/Queen's Medical Center. He subsequently finished three years of dermatology residency at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Center, where he served as chief resident during his senior year. It was in Colorado where he discovered his love for procedural dermatology, and after residency, he pursued fellowship training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, cutaneous oncology, and facial reconstruction, at the University of Vermont Medical Center. Prior to joining the team at Advanced Dermatology, Dr. Chen was an assistant professor at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine. He has published in internationally recognized dermatology journals and textbooks, and presented at regional and national conferences, in topics of reconstructive techniques, medical education, and complex cutaneous oncology. Dr. Chen's clinical practice centers around surgical treatments of skin cancers, as well as functional and aesthetic surgical reconstruction. His philosophy of practice focuses on compassion and education.

Dr. Howard Rogers

Dr. Howard Rogers graduated from Harvard University in 1989 with magna cum laude honors. He performed two years of medical research at Harvard Medical School during this time and was awarded the Swasey Scholorship for distinction in medical pursuits. Dr. Rogers then attended Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He graduated with honors, with both an M.D. and a Ph.D. His Ph.D. thesis involved seminal research into mechanisms of infectious immunity. At graduation, Dr. Rogers was awarded the Olin Fellowship (in recognition of his advanced medical research) and the Yalem Dermatology Award (for excellence in Dermatology scholarship). Dr. Rogers completed his internship in internal medicine at University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He then completed three years of dermatology residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. While a dermatology resident, he won numerous awards including being elected chief resident. Dr. Rogers then completed a fellowship in Mohs surgery and cutaneous surgical oncology at University of Cincinnati Hospital and The Skin Cancer Center. He is the author of numerous scientific publications of his immunology and dermatology research. Dr. Rogers has been in private practice in Connecticut over the past nineteen years, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of skin cancers. He has treated approximately 35,000 skin cancer cases. Dr. Rogers is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, The American College of Mohs Surgery, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and American Medical Association. Dr. Rogers is an nationally recognized expert in skin cancer epidemiology / treatment, delivery of care, and patient safety and frequently lectures to physician groups on these topics. He serves on or chairs numerous committees for his national specialty societies. In fact, his leadership was recognized by election to the Board of Directors of the American College of Mohs Surgery where he currently serves. Johannah Kone Valentine

Dr Johannah Kone Valentine is a Board Certified Dermatologist and is committed to providing exceptional care for the health of your skin. Known for her caring bedside manner, she specializes in general, pediatric and surgical dermatology. Additionally, she has expertise in cosmetic dermatology, scar treatment and advanced dermoscopy. A native of Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Valentine earned her B.S. in Biology from Yale University. She entered the service of our nation when she matriculated at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. After receiving her medical doctorate from USUHS, she completed internship in internal medicine at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). She then served four years as a United States Naval Flight Surgeon, first with HMH-466 of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007. Dr. Valentine was then hand-selected to be the flight surgeon for the prestigious United States Navy Blue Angels. She returned to NMCSD and completed residency in dermatology in 2013. After completing residency, Dr. Valentine joined the Dermatology faculty of NMCSD where she also served as USUHS Associate Professor of Dermatology. In 2015 she deployed to East Asia and Polynesia aboard USNS Mercy in support of Pacific Partnership '15 and finished her time in Navy in San Diego. In her free time, Dr. Valentine enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, hiking the numerous wonderful trails in Connecticut. She proud to be a part of the team and looks forward to customizing an effective skin treatment for your dermatology needs. Dr Valentine specializes in general, pediatric and surgical dermatology. She has expertise in cosmetic dermatology, scar treatment and advanced dermoscopy.

Kelly O. Smith

Kelly graduated with high distinction from the University of Virginia with a degree in Economics. After 15 years in corporate banking in New York and Chicago, Kelly returned to school with the goal of learning a skill she could use to help people. In 2011, she graduated from Springfield College with a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Kelly spent 3 years in Internal Medicine before finding her true passion in Dermatology in 2015. In her free time, she enjoys time at the beach under an umbrella with lots of sunscreen and spending time with her family. Kelly is certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
