Aidan joined Bankside Chambers as a Member in 2022, following four years as an Employed Barrister working with Kate Davenport QC, Derek Nolan QC, Simon Foote QC and Rowan Butler on complex commercial, environmental and trust and estate litigation. Aidan graduated from the University of Otago with an LLB and BA in Māori Studies. While at Otago, Aidan attained fluency in Te Reo Māori. Janna McGuigan is a general civil and commercial litigator with particular experience in trust disputes. Janna has recently acted for defendant trustees and directors on breach of duty allegations and for plaintiff beneficiaries seeking to enforce trust terms. Janna also advises on a wide range of general civil and commercial disputes, including contract and tort matters, governance issues, and assisting clients (both businesses and individual directors) during regulatory investigations and prosecutions. Janna's notable experience includes roles as junior counsel in: High Court proceedings, acting for professional trustee defendants of a sizeable family trust on breach of fiduciary duty claims; an application by trustees to the High Court for directions; advising a primary producer under Commerce Commission investigation for allegedly misleading conduct; defending a New Zealand corporate on Fair Trading Act charges in the District Court. Janna also assists clients with advisory opinions and compliance advice, including to trusts and trustees, on commercial disputes, and to companies requiring guidance on regulatory and consumer protection legislation issues. Janna was admitted to the bar in 2008. Before becoming a barrister sole in 2017, Janna worked at Wilson Harle (Auckland) and at Russell McVeagh (Wellington). Janna holds a Masters of Law from the University of Michigan, where she was a Grotius Fellow in 2010-2011, and a BA / LLB (First Class Hons) from the University of Canterbury (2007). Jeremy joined Bankside in 2020, prior to this Jeremy practised at Wynn Williams. Jeremy is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and holds a STEP Advanced Certificate in Trust Disputes, placing first in his global class. He was the youngest person to become a Fellow of the Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute of New Zealand. He also received the Ronald Davison Award for excellence in arbitral award writing. Outside of work Jeremy is active in the community. He serves as Deputy Legal Adviser to the Primates of New Zealand and Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Waiapu. He is a Fellow of Christ's College, Canterbury, and Chair of the New Zealand String Quartet Trust. Jeremy has offices in both Auckland and Christchurch and works on cases across New Zealand.
