More… Ben is a partner and portfolio manager for The Boston Family Office. He joined the firm in 2004 and serves as the Chief Investment Officer. Ben attended Connecticut College, where he was a member of the varsity lacrosse and sailing teams and was a member of the varsity sailing team at Harvard College where he graduated with an AB in Economics in 1997. For seven years after college, Ben trained as a full-time Olympic hopeful in sailing and was a member of the US Sailing Team. He is a world and national champion and finished in the top-5 in several other world championships, the Olympic Trials, and the Pan-American Games. Ben has served on the Board of Directors of US Sailing, chairing the Olympic Sailing Committee for the Rio Olympic quadrennium, as well as the Board of Trustees of Waring School where he chaired the Finance Committee. He also spent several years as the Treasurer of the North American Laser Class. Ben and his wife Courtney live in his hometown of Gloucester with their son and two golden retrievers. He continues to compete with some success, although the name of one of his boats is Has Ben.

In addition to his compliance duties, he manages the BFO's operations and systems and is a member of the Investment Committee. Darren joined the BFO after serving as the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Risk Officer at New Generation Advisors, LLC for 12 years. He earned an MBA from Babson College in 2005 and a BSBA from Northeastern University in 1999. Darren lives in Lakeville with his wife Katie and son Alden.

Previously George was a Vice President at the Cambridge Trust Company, handling various duties ranging from commercial loans to branch management. Prior to that he was with the Bank of New England, working in a variety of areas from retail banking, operations, credit training to commercial finance. George earned a BA from the University of Pennsylvania in 1975. In addition, he is a graduate of the National Trust School. George serves on the Board of Directors of Breckinridge Capital Advisors, a manager of fixed income portfolios. As a volunteer, George is the treasurer of Homeowners Rehab, inc., a developer and provider of affordable housing, primarily in Cambridge. He is on the investment committee of the Cambridge Community Foundation and is a member of the Council for the Arts at MIT. He lives in Cambridge with his wife Barbara.

George Putnam, III

George helped found The Boston Family Office and is a partner, although he is not involved in the day-to-day operations of the firm. Currently, George is the President of New Generation Advisors, which formerly managed funds investing in distressed securities, and Chairman of New Generation Research, Inc., which publishes bankruptcy and turnaround data. Mr. Putnam also serves as Trustee of the Putnam Group of Mutual Funds. George earned a BA from Harvard College, and a JD and MBA from Harvard Law School and Business School respectively. He is a director of the Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute in Gloucester, MA. He also sits on the investment committees of several other nonprofit organizations. He lives on the North Shore with his wife Kathy. Two of his children live in Boston and a third in New York City.

Michael J. Unger

He joined the firm in 2000. Previously, Michael headed the investment management team for Mellon Private Capital Management's Charitable Giving service, a new line of business at the time that he joined Mellon. Prior to that, he managed individual and institutional investment portfolios for Key Trust Company of Ohio/Key Asset Management. He graduated in 1990 from the University of Dayton with a BS in Finance and with a minor in History. His interests include mountain biking, motorcycles, and sailing. Michael was born and grew up in Southern Africa, spending his childhood in Malawi, South Africa, and what is now Zimbabwe. After living near Boston for many years, he now telecommutes from Boulder, Colorado where he lives with his wife Jean.

Peder C. Johnson

Peder is a partner and portfolio manager for the Boston Family Office. He joined the firm in 2016 after running his own investment advisory firm, Roxiticus Partners, for several years. Previously, he was a partner at Parkman Shaw & Co., a Boston-based advisory firm, did financial planning work at MetLife, and worked in marketing at a hedge fund named AlphaMetrics Capital Management. Peder attended the University of Vermont and Thomas Edison State College and received a Master of Science degree in Investment Management from Boston University in 2005. Growing up in the farmlands of Vermont, Peder never imagined he would become an investment manager. As a young adult he spent several months hitchhiking across the country and came to appreciate the social and economic diversity of the United States. After a year of fishing and hiking in Alaska, he began a publishing career in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Later, he and a cousin founded a monthly computer publication in Madison, Wisconsin. During his time in the Mid-West a fateful visit to the Chicago Board of Trade piqued his interest in investments. Peder lives in Charlestown with his spouse and two children. He volunteers time to several non-profits including: The Shaw Fund for Mariners' Children, the North Bennet Street School, and the Charlestown Youth Hockey Association.
