Alexander A. Bove Jr.

Alexander A. Bove Jr. is an internationally known and respected trust and estate attorney with over thirty-five years of experience. He is Adjunct Professor of Law, Emeritus, of Boston University Law School Graduate Tax Program, where he taught estate planning and advanced estate planning for eighteen years. Prior to that he taught estate planning for four years at Northeastern University Law School. In 1998 he was admitted to practice as a Solicitor in England and Wales. In addition to his J.D. and LL.M. degrees, in 2013, he earned his Doctorate in Law from the University of Zurich Law School. Mr. Bove is frequently engaged as an expert witness or consultant in trusts and estates matters and has extensive pre-trial, trial, and settlement experience in that regard. Numerous domestic and international law firms have consulted with him on trust & estate matters. More specifically, he has testified or consulted on cases involving the interpretation of trust administrative provisions, responsibilities of trustees and rights of beneficiaries, the standard of care requires of an estate planning lawyer, beneficiary disputes, and related matters, testifying on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants in those specific areas as well as in the fields of trusts, wills, probate and estate planning in general. In addition, Mr. Bove's law practice encompasses domestic and international estate planning, and he is regularly consulted by attorneys and other professionals in issues related to cross border estate planning in such jurisdictions as the UK, Italy, Germany, France amoung others. In the course of his practice, Mr. Bove is periodically called upon to serve in the fiduciary capacity of trustee and executor. He has published seven books, including three law books, and one of his books, "The Complete Book of Wills, Estates and Trusts" Holt & Company NY, has over 100,000 copies in print. He is also the editor and contributing author of the two volume set "Asset Protection Strategies" published by the American Bar Association, with an up-dated second edition publication date expected in late 2017. Mr. Bove has written and published over 1,000 articles and is a regular contributor of articles to a number of legal journals, including Trusts & Estates, Estate Planning, Trusts & Trustees (Oxford University Press), and Trusts e Attività-Fiduciarie (Italy). He is also on the editorial board of Trusts & Estates Journal. From 1973 to 1995 he authored the widely acclaimed legal and financial column, "The Family Money", for the Boston Globe. He is also co-columnist with his Partner, Melissa Langa, of the Column, The Trustworthy Advisor, appearing bi- monthly in the Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. His latest book, Trust Protectors - A Practice Manual With Forms is available through Juris Publishing. Mr. Bove is also an internationally known and acclaimed lecturer in his fields of expertise. He has lectured on the subjects of his specialty at the annual Heckerling Tax Institute, the annual meeting of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel (ACTEC), the Association of Advanced Life Underwriters (AALU), the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), the annual Top of the Table Conference, the annual Notre Dame Estate Planning Institute, the Southern California Estate Planning Institute, The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law (TIAETL), and the University of Liechtenstein Annual Trust Conference, in addition to numerous other international conferences in England, Italy, and Switzerland. He has been named in "The Best Lawyers in America, Trusts and Estates" for 2012 - 2016. He was also named Estate Planner of the Year by the Boston Estate Planning Council and was elected to the National Estate Planning Hall of Fame in 2014. She is also experienced in the formation of business entities and leads our preparation of trust accountings. Jennifer received a Certificate in Paralegal studies from Northeastern University and Bachelor of Arts degree from Covenant College, where she pursued her interest in English literature.

Karen Witherell

Karen, promoted to Partner in 2019, provides an exciting dynamic to the Firm's innovative practice. Her significant background in Trusts and Estates law and strong commitment to her clients enhances Karen's practice which includes wealth preservation, incapacity and estate planning, gift transaction planning, preparation of gift and estate tax returns, business succession planning, prenuptial agreements, trust administration and probate administration. Karen has experience in working with clients with a wide variety of deeply personal estate planning goals such as ensuring the continued ownership of a family business for multiple generations. Karen believes that an important part of her practice is to understand her clients' wishes and family situations so that she can deliver a tailored work product that will provide each one of her clients with peace of mind and the result they are looking for. In addition to her work in private practice, Karen is very active in the trusts and estates legal community. She regularly writes and speaks on various topics relating to trusts and estate law, including regularly collaborating with Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) to help educate other practitioners in her field. Karen also is co-chair of the programs committee for the Boston Probate and Estate Planning Forum. Additionally, Karen served as the teaching assistant for the Fall 2020 Semester Estate Planning Course at the Boston University Law School Graduate Tax Program. Prior to joining Bove & Langa, Karen practiced trusts and estates law with a mid-sized regional law firm. In addition to her work in private practice, Karen has worked directly with the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court and other counsel to implement the Massachusetts Uniform Probate Code (MUPC). Karen was a member of the MUPC implementation Committee and served on both the MUPC Rules Subcommittee and the Transitional Rule Subcommittee in 2010 and 2011. Karen has also served as a Judicial Law Clerk in six divisions of the MA Probate and Family Court. Karen attended law school with the intention of practicing in Trusts and Estates law and was committed to this goal throughout law school. During her time at Vermont Law School, Karen served as a Legal Intern to the Vermont Legislative Study Group reviewing a restructuring the Vermont Probate Court system and as a Judicial Intern to Justice Belcher of the Washington County Probate Court in Montpelier, Vermont. Kim became the firm's office administrator in 2011, having served in a similar capacity for over fifteen years at a local $20 million produce company. During her tenure, Kim was a key contributor to that company's growth by recognizing the importance of customer service, financial management, and the integration of emerging technology within the workplace. She received an Associate of Science Degree at North Shore Community College and has taken a number of courses in accounting and business at Salem State College.

Molly Soiffer

Molly helps families plan for the next generation.
