Child Aid transforms how reading and literacy are taught in Guatemala. We believe all children deserve access to a quality education and the opportunity to improve their lives, contribute to their communities and their world... For more than two decades, Child Aid has invested in literacy and education in Guatemala's most poverty-stricken indigenous communities. From the start, we recognized the link between illiteracy and systemic poverty, and saw the possibility to make a lasting impact in children's lives through education... When we discovered in the early 1990s that thousands of children in rural Guatemalan communities had no access to storybooks, our organization formed to do one thing well. And for several years, we did. Child Aid delivered Spanish-language books to makeshift libraries in some of Guatemala's most impoverished communities. It worked fine.
