Alan Therrien

Alan has 7+ years of experience as a Project Engineer/Project Manager on construction projects ranging from highway bridges to high-rise multi-family apartments. He reviewed submittals, performed drawing reviews, and conducted on-site quality control for all disciplines of these projects including structural, enclosure, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and interior finishes. Alan is a certified Engineer Intern and has his LEED AP BD+C Certification. He earned a B.S in Civil Engineering from the University of Vermont and an M.S. in Civil Engineering at the University of Colorado's Construction Engineering Management program.

Brian Wong

Brian is an accomplished Professional Engineer with over 11 years of experience in energy efficiency, decarbonization, and smart building systems. He has designed and managed several turnkey energy efficiency and low carbon projects including building automation systems, mechanical retrofits, lighting retrofits, and low carbon electrification. Brian has performed numerous energy audits and re-commissioning studies for clients in municipal, commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-unit residential sectors. He specializes in identifying, designing, and implementing control strategies to reduce buildings' carbon footprint, improve occupancy comfort, and extend the lifecycle of the assets. Brian is integral to Cx Associates' Measurement & Verification (M&V) services for new and existing buildings. Brian's hobbies include vegan cooking, swimming, yoga, hiking, canoeing, running and enjoying the outdoors.

Cathleen Branon-Keogh

Cathleen successfully ran a product based manufacturing and sales business for over twenty years before transitioning her skills to the built environment as an administrative and operations professional.

Eric Hauser

Eric Hauser is an experienced and well-rounded finance, operations, and HR professional with over 20 years of experience. Eric joined Cx Associates in 2009 and takes pride in helping to foster an employee-centered workplace, enabling people to be themselves and do their best work. ' Chief Finance & People Officer, Eric wears many hats - he creates and tracks budgets and projections, handles all receivables and payables, manages CxA's PM and bookkeeping platform, administers payroll and employee benefit programs, manages recruitment, and drafts cost estimates and proposals. Eric joined Cx Associates in 2009 as the Operations Manager, and in June 2022 was promoted to his current position. Prior to joining Cx Associates, Eric served for nearly a decade in the non-profit sector at several organizations in the DC and NYC areas. In 2014, Eric and his wife relocated to Chicago from Vermont. Eric continues to work remotely for Cx Associates.

Eric Morrow

Eric is a seasoned architect with over 20 years of experience in both commercial and residential projects. With a strong emphasis on high-performance design and energy reduction practices, Eric brings a wealth of expertise to our building enclosure division. Eric comes to Cx Associates after having spent the past five years running his own architectural firm, completing a wide range of projects including Passive House residences, commercial fit-ups, and renovations of various scales, showcasing his commitment to sustainable design practices. Beyond his professional endeavors, Eric's impact extends to the community through his role as the co-founder and chair of the Burlington 2030 District. This initiative, in partnership with Cx Associates, aims to reduce emissions by 50% from the built environment by 2030. To date, the district has made substantial progress, with 10 million square feet committed and measurable reductions in site energy. Eric is also an instructor at the Yestermorrow Design/Build School, where he's taught design, SketchUp and Revit since 2009.

Eveline Habermann

Eveline Habermann is an architectural engineer with over 20 years' experience in Commercial and Industrial project management, and over 10 years' experience as an energy analyst and building commissioning and retrocommissioning agent. Eveline Habermann is an architectural engineer with over 30 years of experience in commercial and industrial energy analysis, retrocommissioning, and project management. Eveline has extensive experience in energy efficient building design and operation, efficiency program design and implementation, and measurement and verification of energy efficiency measures. Eveline has performed calibrated energy models on large commercial buildings for the NYSERDA New Construction Impact Evaluation and provided presentations on the methods of calibrated modeling. She has managed the evaluation of the Vermont Forward Capacity Market for ten years and managed the Con Edison commercial energy efficiency program portfolio and the NYSERDA New Construction Program Impact Evaluation for over six years. Eveline has provided retrocommissioning services for a large number of commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities, providing control optimization and identifying mechanical deficiencies that have resulted in 10-30% energy savings. As a project manager, Eveline works closely with design firms, building owners and contractors to ensure a smooth and timely project flow for new construction and retrofit projects. Prior to joining Cx Associates, Eveline was a C&I energy consultant and developed performance contracts for institutional, commercial, and multi-family energy retrofit projects. This included energy analysis (load analyses, building simulations, and equipment control strategies), financial analyses (cost estimating and cash flow analyses including life-cycle costs, benefit/cost ratios, net present values), contract management and savings guarantee maintenance. Eveline is a Certified Energy Manager and a professional engineer.

Jennifer L. Chiodo

Jennifer Chiodo was managing principal of Cx Associates from January 2005-February 2020, growing the business considerably during her tenure. She continues to contribute her knowledge of energy efficient building design, lighting systems, facilitation and measurement and verification as an expert consultant to Cx Associates. Jennifer provides collaborative consultation for the design and delivery of high performance buildings to organizations committed to developing buildings with a positive impact on occupants, the community and the environment. Jennifer's experience includes ten years of project management and systems design for commercial and institutional projects at two major M&E firms in San Francisco, project management of successful energy performance contracting projects and the management and development of Efficiency Vermont's Business Energy Services group from its inception, commissioning of over 2 million square feet of commercial facilities, energy efficiency program savings verification for the ISO NE Forward Capacity Market and program evaluation for NYSERDA's Large Savers and Commercial New Construction Programs. Jennifer is a licensed electrical engineer and a LEED Accredited Professional.

Katie Mason

Katie Mason is a mechanical engineer with over ten years' experience in performing building commissioning, retrocommissioning, energy audits and energy measurement and verification. She has a broad knowledge of the LEED certification process for new construction, interior renovations and existing buildings. As part of her work with Cx Associates, Katie acts as one of the program engineers for the Burlington 2030 District and is on the Board of Directors for the Vermont Green Building Network. Katie is the lead commissioning engineer and project manager for several projects, including the L.L. Bean Headquarters expansion in Freeport, ME; Maine Medical Center's Scarborough Medical Office Building in Scarborough, ME; and University of Vermont's Recital Hall expansion and renovation. Katie is also the owner's project manager for a boiler and chiller upgrade project at Southern Maine Health Care's Sanford Campus. She is a certified Engineer Intern and has her LEED AP O&M certification. Katie graduated from the University of Vermont where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering. Prior to Cx Associates, she worked in Construction Management.

He has led teams on commissioning projects totaling well over one million square feet of finished space of commercial office, K-12 schools, higher-ed, and healthcare facilities.

Lauren Milne Hagen

Lauren joined Cx Associates in March 2020. She has a background in general marketing, team coordination, and proposal and interview strategy, design, and delivery for the architectural, engineering, and construction industry. Her keen eye for detail and design is an asset to operations, marketing, and project tasks. Particularly adept at aesthetics, Lauren's graphic sensibilities help synthesize complex information in visual format. Lauren is also a technical editor and reviews engineering reports such as retrocommissioning qualification and energy program evaluation reports.

Liza Boyle

Holding a Ph.D. and an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, Liza brings a wealth of expertise in sustainable energy systems. Her extensive academic background is underscored by numerous authored and co-authored publications, including the notable "Advancements in Sustainable Energy Systems," accessible here. Liza is primed to enhance the team's capabilities, leveraging her experience to drive innovative and sustainable solutions in our pursuit of creating efficient, comfortable, and environmentally conscious buildings. Beyond her academic pursuits, Liza is an avid outdoor enthusiast, with a particular love of rowing and ultimate.

Matt Napolitan

Matt Napolitan is a mechanical engineer with over 20 years of experience in energy efficient building design and operations. His commissioning experience ranges from major renovations, new construction, and retrocommissioning of commercial and industrial, educational, health care, and military facilities. Matt Napolitan is a mechanical engineer with more than 24 years of experience in energy efficient building design and operations. His commissioning experience ranges from major renovations, new construction, and retrocommissioning of commercial and industrial, educational, health care, and military facilities. To name just a few, he has successfully completed commissioning on projects at Maine Medical Center, Middlebury College, Stowe Mountain Lodge, the University of Vermont and buildings for Champlain College, including the LEED Platinum Certified Perry Hall. His ability to closely collaborate with installers, programmers, owners, operators, engineers, and architects allows him to fully leverage his breadth and depth of knowledge around HVAC systems and their control. Matt's expertise and attention to detail afford him the ability to identify efficiency and operational opportunities during planning and design that would otherwise go untapped and would be unaffordable to retrofit once a project is completed. Matt brings a well-rounded perspective to any project that enables him to bridge the gaps between owners, operators, engineers, and installers. Prior to joining Cx Associates he was the project manager for mechanical engineering design on several major projects, including the New York Times' headquarters in Manhattan. Cx Associates' Managing Principal Matt Napolitan, and Associate Principal Eveline Habermann have over 45 years of combined experience in services for high performance buildings. Eric Hauser rounds out the management team as our Chief Finance and People Officer, with over a decade of dedication to Cx Associate's financial and staff well-being.

Matty Goldberg

Matty is based in the Portsmouth, New Hampshire area and comes to Cx Associates most recently having served as a mechanical designer with strong Revit and AutoCAD competency. Matty demonstrates a keen interest in the practical and educational components of our work as well as our vision of engineering a future where buildings are better. They graduated from Union College in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Matty supports our building enclosure services, and has a strong foundation in mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection (FP) design, allowing them to also support our building systems services and approach enclosure services with a wholistic perspective. In past roles, Matty has made significant contributions to the development of mid-sized multifamily buildings. Beyond their professional expertise, Matty is an avid enthusiast of Dungeons and Dragons, hiking, fencing, and enjoys cooking and baking. Matty also finds time to volunteer at Cross Roads House, preparing dinner for those in need.

Rachael B. Straub

Rachael brings a background in project management, process improvement, research, and economic and policy responses to climate change to her work at Cx Associates. She has a Master's in Natural Resource Management from the University of Vermont. At Cx Associates, Rachael manages communication, spearheads technical QA/QC, and identifies and troubleshoots roadblocks related to evaluation, commissioning, and energy efficiency projects. She is the Project Manager for an Energy Engineering and M&V Services contract for Con Edison's C&I programs, under which nine engineers provide engineering services for 175 efficiency projects yearly. She is also the Project Manager for the Energy Savings Account Pilot participation for Ethan Allen and Jay Peak Resort, for which she organizes and tracks energy saving measure development, implementation, and verification over their three-year roadmap so that clients may recover their utility energy efficiency charges. Rachael has coordinated several commissioning projects, such as UVM's On Campus Multipurpose Center and Maine Medical Center's $512 million Bramhall Campus Expansion project, and has acted as the LEED administrator on a number of projects.

Riazul Hoque

Riazul holds a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University with a concentration in energy systems. He completed his bachelor's in mechanical engineering from the Institute of Engineering and Management at Kolkata, India in 2018. Before joining Cx Associates, Riazul worked as an Energy Systems Engineer on the development of Solid-state Hydrogen Separator technology as well as thin-walled Polymeric Heat Exchangers for capturing low-level waste heat from multiple industrial sectors. He aspires to engineer solutions to developmental issues and his educational background in sustainability, data analysis, and optimization will offer a solid foundation for providing engineering expertise for M&V projects.

Walker Calderwood

Walker is a mechanical engineer with professional experience in building commissioning, retrocommissioning, energy analysis, and measurement and verification (M&V). He is the lead commissioning engineer for Maine Medical Center's $525 million, 1.5 million sq. ft. Bramhall Campus expansion project and the retrocommissioning lead for Northwestern Medical Center's central chiller plant. Walker is also Project Manager for the commissioning of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Manchester's new medical office building and ambulatory surgery center, the University of Vermont's new On-Campus Multipurpose Center, and the State of Maine Greenlaw Building. He is involved in additional commissioning and retrocommissioning projects at MassArt, Jay Peak Resort, the University of Vermont, Rutland Regional Medical Center, Northwestern Medical Center, and Maine Medical Center. Before joining Cx Associates, Walker specified equipment and assisted with mechanical design as a sales engineer for Meier Supply Company representing Mitsubishi Electric. His experience also includes working on early phase development of a prototype design for a new multi-function, behind-the-counter photo kiosk for the Eastman Kodak Company.
