Billy Flynn

Billy Flynn is a Chartered Environmental Scientist and Ecologist from Clones, Co. Monaghan. He was educated in London, Madrid and Dublin. He works in the area of environmental consultancy. He was manager of the National Environmental Education Centre from 1999 until 2006 and assistant lecturer in ecology and biology at the Dublin Institute of Technology (now TU Dublin). He has over 20 years of experience in environmental science and engineering. He has been a Tidy Towns Adjudicator since 2007 and is one of the authors of the Tidy Towns Handbook 2021. Billy has also served as a Director of the Irish Wildlife Trust and as a Director of Voluntary Service International and the Irish Environmental Network. He has worked on some of the largest infrastructure projects in Ireland including motorways, roads, rail and flood relief schemes. Recently, Billy has worked on numerous Greenway projects, including all of Co. Monaghan's Greenways to date.

Christopher Doyle

Christopher Doyle is a plant biology graduate, whose final year in University College Cork was spent in a lab with some very hormonal potatoes. After a brief stint in the Environmental Protection Agency and Teagasc, he now works as an ecologist for Flynn Furney, conducting habitat assessments, mammal surveys and environmental monitoring. His latest obsession is invasive species, which he will happily talk about ad nauseam. A member of the CIEEM and the IES, Christopher is also a certified JNCC Marine Mammal Observer, first aider, day skipper, powerboat pilot and barista. He continues his endless quest for qualifications with a joint Masters of Science in Bioeconomics at University College Dublin and Munster Technological University, exploring the value of natural resources and ecosystem services.

Darragh Murphy

Darragh holds a MSc Conservation & Biodiversity University of Exeter and a BA Science in Zoology from Trinity College Dublin. Darragh has worked as a wildlife biologist, ecologist and science communicator over the past 10 years in Ireland, with a few stints in Peru, Seychelles and South Africa. Since 2016 he has been a part of the FFEC team, with a focus on implementing environmental mitigation on construction projects which pose risks to freshwater habitats. Darragh is currently working on a PhD project in Environmental Science with UCC, which is investigating the role of Nature Based Solutions in managing flood risk and water quality problems in agricultural catchments

Dr Deborah McCormick

Dr Deborah McCormick is an experienced ecologist with a strong academic background. She has an established record of working in the education sector (formerly through an environmental education centre with strong links to many regional primary and secondary schools), and more recently in the higher education sector lecturing on the Wildlife Biology course in Munster Technological University. Deborah has over 15 years consultancy experience, specialising in freshwater macroinvertebrate and fisheries surveys, but also with experience in terrestrial habitat surveys, construction site monitoring and Ecological Impact Assessment and Appropriate Assessment.

Erin Mc Crudden

Erin holds a first-class honours BSc in Environmental Science from University of Galway where her thesis focused on the hydrological characterisation of Cloncrow bog. Erin is an Ecologist and Environmental Scientist who has worked with the Flynn Furney team since 2021 engaging in a range of projects. Examples include Greenways, Invasive Species and Hedgerow assessments. In University of Galway Erin gained skills in Ecology, Hydrology, Environmental Law, GIS and so forth. Previously, Erin obtained an internship working on the EU Care-Peat project where she gained valuable experience in the field of peatland ecology and restoration.

Ian Douglas

Ian is an Ecologist and Agri-environmental Consultant specialising in ecological assessment, soil science, GIS mapping, land capability assessment and regenerative agriculture.

Jason Nash

Jason is a full member of the Institute of Fisheries Management and a Committee Member of its Irish Branch. He is also the Director and Secretary for the Bandon Rivers Trust.

Jennifer Mc Aree

Jennifer has been an Environmental Consultant with Flynn Furney Environmental Consultants since February 2021. She has 10 years' experience in the environmental field. Jennifer holds a BSc in Environmental Science from NUI Galway (now University of Galway) and a MSc Degree in Sustainable Development from DIT Bolton Street (now TU Dublin). At Flynn Furney, she has worked on a range of projects, including developing both small and large scale biodiversity plans, undertaking ecological and water quality assessments and assisting with rewilding surveys. She also regularly leads biodiversity-related talks and delivers presentations to the public. Previously, Jennifer was an Environment Officer (for Regulated Industry) with the Environment Agency in the UK. Before that, she worked at Dutch engineering firm Witteveen+Bos in the Netherlands, with the Energy and Sustainable Development team. She has also worked with the Project Communications team at RPS Group, Dublin and acted as the Engagement Officer for DIT Green Campus Committee after graduating with an MSc. Jennifer is passionate about protecting the environment, especially in terms of biodiversity and wildlife conservation, water quality and waste management.

Rory O' Connor

Rory is an Ecologist and Environmental Consultant with experience in Invasive Species Management, Appropriative Assessments, Preliminary Ecological Assessments, and working as an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW). Prior to his work as an Ecologist, Rory spent many years working as a Horticulturist.
