FOX SURVEY - Key Persons

Alex Liggett

Job Titles:
  • Senior Surveyor
Since joining Fox and Associates in 2015, Alex has been responsible for the boundary surveys for most of our large land development projects. With a wide array of cadastral surveying experience, Alex also specialises in legalisations, rural surveys, as well as large-scale positioning projects. Alex has always had a love for the rural environment. Before graduating with a Bachelor of Surveying from Otago University in 2005, he worked on various dairy farms in North Canterbury. With this farming background, Alex can uniquely understand and relate to the concerns and motivations of our rural clients. Having used LINZ' Landonline database for his entire career Alex is intimately familiar with its strengths and weaknesses. His extensive knowledge of this system underpins a lot of what we do at Fox and Associates and has been recognised outside the firm by his appointment to the industry working group advising the development of its replacement. When he isn't crunching the numbers or checking over plans you can often find Alex working on the restoration of a WW2 Mosquito aircraft at Ferrymead. Aside from this he devotes his spare time to walking, playing the bass guitar (badly), and his growing collection of classic Hewlett-Packard calculators.

Carl Fox - Managing Director

Job Titles:
  • Managing Director
Although it might seem as if Carl was born to be MD at Fox and Associates, his earlier endeavours may surprise you. Carl studied a wide range of subjects during School and University including Fine Arts, Economics, Psychology, and Astronomy, pursued Architecture for a short time and even tried his hand at windsurfing instruction before he ultimately graduated with his Bachelor of Surveying in 1993. Carl sees his role at Fox as the constructive challenger of client and team thinking. Being an eternal optimist, he believes that there is always a solution to be found when you sit down and discuss and explore the issues. As an all-rounder, he has great knowledge of each stage of the process and can take a problem, fit all the pieces together, develop creative ideas and then provide the leadership to ensure effective delivery of the final solution. Carl is relatively hard to rattle and so provides a sense of calm and security to those around him. He sees his greatest driver and challenge in creating or developing something worthy and enduring - whether it be a subdivision development or an engaged and dynamic team.

Craig McInnes

Job Titles:
  • Director
Despite his North Island roots and still being an avid North Harbour fan, Craig is well on his way to being accepted as a Canterbury local with the help of his Christchurch-born wife and children. With a busy work and family life, you can often find Craig plotting ways to get the family out of the city for some tramping and camping or to get the boat out and go fishing. Craig began his surveying career in the public sector, dealing with Crown land issues and surveying land for public works such as roads and power schemes. Since 2011, Craig has been responsible for keeping things ‘business as usual' around the Fox office, managing client projects from the initial inquiry right through to delivering the finished product, as well as championing health and safety. Having grown up on a farm, Craig thrives on helping rural clients navigate planning and surveying rules, so they get the best out of their biggest asset - their land. He especially likes taking tricky jobs and charting a pathway through the red tape. Craig still enjoys getting out ‘in the field' particularly around Banks Peninsula or the high country.

Tim Cook

Job Titles:
  • Surveyor
Tim is a recent addition to Fox & Associates. He met Carl at Otago then surveyed in Nelson for 5 years, followed by a lengthy hydrographic surveying and mapping odyssey in the Gulf of Thailand. Tim eventually returned to New Zealand with his family, worked for a start-up tracking international air cargo, and has finally come full circle back to land-based surveying. Tim enjoys working with spatial data to derive meaningful information for planning, analysis, and land development. He also enjoys the interaction with clients, contractors, and councils when working on projects. Tim still enjoys the Nelson lifestyle, generally working from home and frequenting Christchurch when needing a taste of city life.
