Hiroshi Amano

Hiroshi Amano received his BE, ME and DE degree in 1983, 1985 and 1989, respectively, from Nagoya University. From 1988 to 1992, he was a research associate at Nagoya University. In 1992, he moved to Meijo University, where he was an assistant professor, associate professor from 1998 till 2002, and professor from 2002 till 2010. He moved to Nagoya University, where he was a professor of Graduate School of Engineering from 2011 till 2015. On Oct. 1, 2015, he became a director of Center for Integrated Research of Future Electronics, Institute of Materials and Systems for Sustainability, Nagoya University. He has also been the director of the Akasaki Research Center (Akasaki Institute), Nagoya University since 2011. During his doctoral program at the Nagoya University Graduate School of Engineering, he was able to realize high-quality epitaxially grown GaN film with metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE), p-type GaN filmdoped with Mg while conducting research with Professor Akasaki.For the first time in history, he established the technology necessary for the production of blue LEDs, thus performing a great achievement the development of the high-luminosity blue LED. He is currently developing technologies for the fabrication of high-efficiency power semiconductor development and new energy-saving devices at Nagoya University. He has over 500 publications, and 30 patents. Prof. Amano shared the Nobel Prize in Physics 2014 with Prof. Isamu Akasaki and Prof. Shuji Nakamura "for the invention of efficient blue light-emitting diodes which has enabled bright and energy-saving white light sources".

Professor Harald Haas received the Ph.D. degree from The University of Edinburgh in 2001. He is a Distinguished Professor of Mobile Communications at The University of Strathclyde/Glasgow, Visiting Professor at the University of Edinburgh and the Director of the LiFi Research and Development Centre. Prof Haas set up and co-founded pureLiFi. He currently is the Chief Scientific Officer. He has co-authored more than 600 conference and journal papers. He has been among the Clarivate/Web of Science highly cited researchers continually since 2017. Haas' research interests are in optical wireless communications and spatial modulation which he first introduced in 2006. Prof. Haas was twice an invited speaker at TED Global and his TED Talks have been watched more than 5 million times. In 2016, he received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the International Solid State Lighting Alliance. He was the recipient of IEEE Vehicular Society James Evans Avant Garde Award in 2019. In 2017 he received a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award. He was the recipient of the Enginuity The Connect Places Innovation Award in 2021. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) as well as the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Yoshi Ohno

Yoshi Ohno is a NIST Fellow, and actively involved in research pertaining to photometry and colorimetry, in particular, luminous flux measurement, colorimetry of light sources, color rendering, spectroradiometry, and solid state lighting. He is a Fellow of Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES). He is very active in national and international standardization work, currently serving as the President of International Commission on Illumination (CIE), the NIST representative for Consultative Committee for Photometry and Radiometry (CCPR), Chair of CCPR Working Group on Key Comparisons, and active in many technical committees in CIE, ANSI, and IES. He is known as the primary author of the key standards for solid state lighting - IES LM-79 Photometric Measurements of Solid State Lighting Products, ANSI C78.377 Specifications for the Chromaticity of Solid State Lighting Products, which are widely used internationally. He also led the developments of IES LM-85 Photometric Measurements of High-Power LEDs, and most recently, CIE S 025 Test Method for LED Lamps, LED modules, and LED luminaires, which is the key international standard for testing LED lighting products.
