The idea for Mission Tile West emerged in 1984, while Mission West Kitchen and Bath co-owners Thano Adamson and his parents, John and Dina Adamson, were visiting Dina's family in Mexico. While there, they visited with Dina's brother, Tony Kyriakis, who owned a tile factory in Nogales. Tony produced beautiful custom tile for the Mexican market, but had no one to sell his products in California. At the time, Thano had just graduated from UCLA with an economics major and was eager to start a business. Selling his uncle's tile in California seemed like a natural fit. With John's financial help and guidance and Dina's natural design ability, the family opened a little tile shop called Mexican Tile West in September of 1984.
