Angela "Bri" Clarke

Is a nurse practitioner who works with Dr. K. Singh Sahni.  Bri was born and raised in Hanover, Virginia. She completed her Bachelors of Science at Virginia Commonwealth University and Master of Science in Nursing at Walden University. Bri is a board-certified licensed Family Nurse Practitioner. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and American Association of Neurological Surgery. Bri evaluates, coordinates and assists Dr. Sahni with many procedures including Gamma Knife, focused ultrasound and deep brain stimulator surgery.

Avery L. Buchholz

Dr. Buchholz is a board-certified neurosurgeon specializing in complex spine. He received his undergraduate degree from the Citadel in South Carolina. He then earned both his MD and MPH at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Neurological Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina and completed a Spine Fellowship at the University of Virginia. He was previously a complex spine surgeon with the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Viriginia and has now joined Neurosurgical Associates here in Richmond, Virginia.

Brittany Henderson

Is a nurse practitioner who works alongside Dr. Matthew Mayr. Brittany is from Winchester, Virginia. She completed her undergraduate nursing degree with Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing. She then worked for Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center and St. Mary's Hospital for five years in the adult ICU. This is where she found a passion for neurosurgery, which led her to pursue a Nurse Practitioner degree. In 2018, she graduated from VCU with a masters in science as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. During NP school, she completed two rotations specializing in neurosurgery. During her time as an ICU nurse, she was awarded Magnet Nurse of the Year in 2017 as well as had two prior nominations for Nurse of the Year through March of Dimes. Brittany is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as well as the Virginia Council for Nurse Practitioners. Brittany has been with NSA since 2018. She currently resides in Hanover with her husband, daughter and three rescue dogs.

Dr. Charles J. Miller

Dr. Miller was raised in Detroit, Michigan, and received his BA from Kalamazoo College in 1982 and Doctor of Medicine from Loyola University of Chicago in 1986. He completed a surgical internship in San Antonio at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in 1987 and residency in Neurosurgery at Loyola in Chicago in 1993. He received the Congress of Neurological Surgeons' Annual Resident Award in 1991. Dr. Miller served on active duty through residency and then as an Air Force neurosurgeon from 1993 to 1998 in Biloxi, Mississippi and Landstuhl, Germany, having been commissioned in the Air Force Reserve in 1982. Dr. Miller practiced neurosurgery in South Dakota from 1999 to 2014 and retired from the South Dakota Air National Guard in 2002. He joined Neurosurgical Associates in January 2015.

Kelsey Van Sickler

Is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who works with Dr. Charles J. Miller and Dr. David Geckle.   Kelsey is a native of Stephenson, Virginia. She received her BS in Nursing from Shenandoah University in 2014. She earned her MS in Nursing at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2019. Kelsey was a cardiac intensive care nurse at Chippenham Hospital for six years prior to joining Neurosurgical Associates in January 2020. Kelsey is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner licensed through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Kelsey is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgery and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She was honored to receive the Mary Henkel Harris Outstanding Student Award at Shenandoah University as well as the Patient Experience Champion Award at Chippenham & Johnston-Willis in 2019 for her exceptional patient care. Kelsey assists with the assessment, diagnosis and treatment plans for patients with brain and spine disorders.

Matthew Barnes

Is a physician assistant-certified (PA-C), who works with Dr. Peter Alexander. Matthew is originally from Richmond, Virginia. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a BA in history. After graduating, he worked in sports administration, first for a minor league baseball team until 2004 and then at the University of Pennsylvania until 2006. In 2007, Matthew entered healthcare when he attended Bon Secours School of Medical Imaging and earned a radiography certificate and RT(R) credentials. In 2012, he entered the physician assistant program at Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke. Upon finishing PA school in 2014, he initially worked in primary care in southwestern Virginia. In 2016, Matthew returned to Richmond to work at Interventional Pain and Spine Specialists and was there until July 2021. He has been with Neurosurgical Associates since August 2021. Matthew is certified by the NCCPA and is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. He also continues to maintain his radiography credentials through AART. Matthew is married to Alison Barnes and has two children.
