A continuous gas detection system shall be provided to detect the presence of a gas at or below the permissible exposure limit in occupiable areas and at or below 1/2 IDLH (or 0.05 LC 50 if no established IDLH) in unoccupiable areas. The detection system shall initiate a local alarm and transmit a signal to a continually staffed remote location (to provide an immediate response to an alarm). The alarm shall be both visual and audible and shall be designed to provide warning both inside and outside of the interior storage, use or handling area. The audible alarm shall be distinct from all other on-site alarms.
