Akiva Stern is from Lakewood, NJ and works in addiction treatment. The idea of spending his days with people who are working on themselves to be better people was very appealing to him. He has lived all over the world and loves to travel. In his free time, Akiva enjoys top foraging, yoga, hiking, and reading.
Amber Reagan is a dedicated professional in the field of addiction treatment, hailing from the town of Northfield, NH. She pursued her higher education at Plymouth State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Social Work. Her academic journey continued as she obtained her LADC (Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor) certification while actively working in the addiction field.
During her time at Concord Hospital as part of her practicum, Amber gained valuable insights into the insufficient treatment facilities and care available for individuals grappling with Substance Use Disorder. This experience ignited her passion for becoming a helping professional in the field of addiction, and she has been committed to this cause ever since.
Amber's career began in a co-occurring facility immediately after college, and she has continued to work diligently in the addiction treatment field. Her genuine enthusiasm lies in assisting individuals who aspire to lead substance-free lives filled with fulfillment. She takes great pride in advocating for her clients and tailors her approach to meet them where they are in their treatment goals.
Andrea Hawkins is a compassionate addiction treatment professional originally from Prince Frederick. She holds an Associate degree in Human Services from the College of Southern Maryland and is currently working towards furthering her education in the field.
Andrea chose this career path because she has witnessed the devastating impact of addiction on her extended family, friends, and loved ones. Her personal experiences have fueled her passion to make a difference and help those who are struggling with addiction.
In her personal life, Andrea enjoys spending time with her family, including her two children. She loves the beach and has a passion for traveling and exploring new places. Her dedication to helping others and love for life make her an asset to the addiction treatment field.
Ben graduated from Antioch University in May 2021 with a master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a focus in Substance Abuse. Since his very first semester in grad school, Ben has been drawn to be of service to the people that are suffering from addiction. He enjoys working at Avenues since his higher purpose & the long-term care model of Avenues are so perfectly aligned. Ben approaches therapy with an existential framework and utilizes an eclectic approach to treatment, understanding that each individual is unique and is motivated and inspired differently. As Carl Jung said, "Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul be just another human soul." Ben has a dog named Yoda who is his best friend in the world.

Brad has worked as an addiction counselor for over two decades. In that time, he has changed countless lives and supported an untold number of recovery journeys. Although Brad originally intended to move on to other areas of mental health counseling, he has found his work in substance use disorders so rewarding that he just can't leave it.
Brad still draws inspiration from a card he received years ago from the mother of a client, thanking him "for giving my son back." He is driven by the idea that each individual life positively impacted by recovery impacts an entire family for the better.
He is known for the ubiquitous Hawaiian shirts he wears to work every day. To Brad, Aloha and Malāma means love, respect, and reverence for each person.
Brandi Keen is a compassionate counselor from Dundalk, MD. She attended Anne Arundel Community College and earned degrees in Human Services and Addiction Counseling. Brandi is currently working towards her LCPC credential to further her education and expertise in the field.
Brandi's personal experience with addiction and loss has fueled her passion for helping others struggling with addiction. Her unique perspective and approach to addiction treatment is person-centered, providing unconditional positive regard for each client. She understands that addiction is a disease and requires personalized care and attention for successful recovery.
Outside of work, Brandi enjoys living on a small farm in Lusby, which is a lifelong dream come true. She is a mother of two, with a newborn baby and an 11-year-old son. In her free time, Brandi enjoys spending time with her family and pets, and exploring new hobbies.
Britt Benson, PLPC, NCC, received her Bachelor's of Arts degree in Comparative History of Ideas from the University of Washington in 2011. After subsequently obtaining a paralegal studies certificate in 2012 from the same institution, Britt gained life-changing insight into the criminal justice system and developed a passion for helping justice-involved individuals.
Britt earned her M. Ed. in Clinical Counseling from the University of New Orleans and became a National Certified Counselor in 2019. She completed her clinical internship at the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Juvenile Diversion Program and gained post-grad experience as a counselor at the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Adult Diversion Program. Britt's work within the criminal justice system has provided her with an acute appreciation for the many ways in which addiction touches her community and galvanized her commitment to helping it heal.
Britt is dedicated to authentically and ethically serving individuals from diverse backgrounds who are struggling with mental health concerns, substance use disorders, and other chronic illnesses. Her existential theoretical approach to counseling provides clients with a non-judgmental space to explore their experiences of the human condition, and empowers clients to turn toward life through interpersonal and intrapersonal skill development, connection, and meaning-making. Britt uses an intersectional framework to understand and collaboratively address challenges and strengths unique to each client.
Originally hailing from Seattle, Washington, Britt enjoys travel, hiking, photography, and philosophy. She recharges by spending quality time with family and her goofy rescue greyhound, Lulu, whose antics are a constant reminder of the restorative power of laughter.
Caleya Velez, a compassionate healthcare professional, spent her formative years in Duryea, PA. She embarked on her educational journey by initially attending community college for a year before pursuing her passion for healthcare. Caleya achieved both her Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Marywood University in Scranton, PA.
Her personal experiences have shaped her career path. Caleya has witnessed the challenges of addiction within her close family circle and understands the devastating consequences of untreated addiction. Motivated by a desire to make a meaningful difference, she chose a profession that allows her to provide comprehensive care and support to patients struggling with addiction. In the field of addiction medicine, Caleya recognizes that healthcare providers must not only treat medical needs but also serve as vital sources of support in the journey to sobriety. For her, it's about helping patients transform into the best versions of themselves.
In her personal life, Caleya finds joy and companionship in her German shepherd puppy, Areys. Family and friends hold a special place in her heart, and she treasures their presence above all else. Her love for travel fuels her desire to explore new places, with Greece ranking high on her list of dream destinations. Caroline Caronna is a proud graduate of the Southern University of New Orleans School of Social Work in 2018. Caroline has worked in substance use treatment as an IOP counselor, in Admissions, and as a general chemical dependency Social Worker. She has been an important member of the Avenues family since 2019.
Her special interests include group dynamics and the important and restorative work that can be done in group and individual therapy as well as family counseling. When Caroline is not at Avenues with clients, she is the pet parent of a clingy chihuahua mix breed dog, Baba.
Cassandra is a graduate of Lackawanna College with a bachelor's degree in social work. She has also obtained certifications in trauma-informed yoga along with grief and loss counseling. Cassandra believes in family education about the disease and finds her passion educating and supporting both clients and family members on their road to recovery. Ahe prides herself on her hands-on approach and ability to help clients find internal motivation for change. Cassandra lost her brother in 2020 to a drug overdose, and she uses his story to empower others to walk the road of recovery. When Cassandra is not at work you can find her spending time with her children, watching football (Go Steelers!), or out on her daily run.

Cathy Justice, a dedicated primary counselor at Avenues Recovery Center at Eastern Shore, graduated from Wor-Wic Community College in 2018 with an Associates of Applied Science degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling. She began her career at Hudson Behavioral Health in Salisbury, MD, where she worked as a counselor at both their residential inpatient facility and their 3.1 Halfway Housing program. In her ongoing quest to improve the services she brings to her clients, Cathy is now pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a focus on mental health counseling.
Cathy is passionate about helping those in need and prides herself on her ability to connect with people of all backgrounds. She is a fan of ‘keeping it real' and not sugar-coating things - "Addiction is hard. Recovery is harder. You can do it." Advocating for client needs is important to her.
Cathy enjoys being creative, knitting, and going to the beach. She resides in Salisbury, MD with her 2 wonderful children.
Curtjanna hold a master's degree in Psychology, and has worked in the mental health field for seven years. In her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors and reading.
Danielle Murphy is a Primary Counselor at Avenues. She is from Prince Frederick and went to AACC. She has achieved her Associates degree and is currently working on furthering her credentials towards her bachelors. Danielle chose this career because she was an addict and had been in and out of treatment. Her last treatment center was Avenues, where she gained her life back with the help of an amazing counselor. Danielle wants to give back to someone what her counselor gave to her. She is unique in her role at Avenues because she has been through it and knows what it feels like to want to die because you can't get clean and to want to use. Danielle has a 15 year old son, has been sober for little over 4 years, loves to dance, has 2 awesome dogs, and loves to travel. Her favorite thing is Mickey Mouse.
Destini Sanders, Primary Counselor, hails from Detroit, Michigan, but currently calls Salisbury, Maryland home. She holds a degree in Chemical Dependency from Wor-Wic Community College and is set to graduate from Wilmington University on June 4th with a Bachelor's in Behavioral Science, specializing in case management. Currently, she possesses her CSC-AD and is actively pursuing her CAC-AD along with gambling credentials ICOGS.
Driven by a belief that addiction impacts us all, Destini is dedicated to empowering her clients to become their own heroes and live life to its fullest. Her approach to addiction treatment is based on the belief that every individual can turn their life around, and deserves support in their journey towards recovery.
In her personal life, Destini is a devoted Detroit Lions fan. She finds joy in football, boxing, and exploring new destinations through travel. She's also a proud mother and fur mommy, with a deep affection for her family and furry companions. In her downtime, you might find her enjoying reruns of the Golden Girls, spending time with her loved ones, or embarking on new adventures.
Donna Doolen, M.Ed., LPC, has been working in the addiction field for over 10 years and at Avenues Recovery Center for over 2 years. She started as a school intern with Addiction Recovery Resources and set her career roots with the company, finding gratitude and humility every day. She entered recovery herself in 2005 and returned to graduate school at the University of New Orleans in 2007, earning her Master's of Education degree in Counseling. Since then, Donna has served as Primary Program Counselor, Residential Clinical Manager, Intensive Outpatient Director, RTP Lead Counselor, and, ultimately, Clinical Director of Townsend Recovery & Detox Center in New Orleans.
Donna's previous career was in hospitality; she earned her bachelors degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism from the University of New Orleans. Donna evolved from managing boutique hotels to planning and hosting large-scale events for thousands. Her catering and design skills led her to curate junkets for Caesars Palace and to travel extensively exploring culinary trends in other cities. Her decades of organizational prowess and attention to detail enhance her management skills.
Donna has made it her mission to serve the population and families that battle the disease of addiction. Many have called her God's warrior on Earth. She volunteers in the community and started a Substance Abuse Ministry (SAM) in her church parish.
Donta Dinkins is a dedicated addiction counselor with a passion for helping others overcome their struggles. Originally from Forestville, MD, Donta obtained an AA degree in Addiction Counseling from Anne Arundel Community College, and is currently working towards a Bachelor's degree in Human Services with a concentration in addiction counseling. Donta chose a career in addiction counseling because he has always had a passion for helping others. In his personal life, Donta is a proud father of four children - two boys and two girls. He enjoys working out and spending quality time with his children.

Dr. Paul Kulpinski hails from Silver Spring, MD. He completed his residency at UMD, showcasing his commitment to the medical field.
Dr. Kulpinski's impressive list of degrees is a testament to his dedication to his profession. He continues to enhance his skills by focusing on counseling, motivational interviewing, medical expertise, and acceptance therapy.
His career choice was deeply influenced by personal experiences, having witnessed friends and family struggle with mental health and co-occurring disorders. Driven by a genuine interest in psychosocial aspects and helping individuals transform their lives, he found his calling in addiction medicine and behavioral medicine, where he specializes in aiding those feeling trapped in their behaviors.
Beyond his professional life, Dr. Kulpinski cherishes moments spent with his wife, two teenage children, and their two beloved dogs. He's an avid fan of the Orioles, having attended numerous games, and enjoys participating in community events, demonstrating his commitment to both family and community.
Dr. Julius has been an expert consultant and keynote speaker for American Addiction Centers and was featured on NBC News, Fox News, Baton Rouge Business Report, and New Orleans Happy Hour Podcast. She worked with the New Orleans Re-Entry Program and is active in AA and served on the Local Action Committee for International Doctors in Alcoholics Anonymous. She is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the American Association of Medical Review Officers. She lives in New Orleans with her husband and three dogs and loves to swim, garden, and operate her vacation rental.
Elizabeth Cagnolatti, FNP-C is a native of DeRidder, Louisiana and a resident of Donaldsonville. Liz graduated from Our Lady of the Lake College of Nursing and Allied Health with honors. Her further education includes a bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Loyola University, and a master's of Science in Nursing with a specialty in family practice from Louisiana State University.
Liz has 25 years of emergency and urgent care experience and is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She has practiced family medicine since 2010 and opened a private practice in a medically underserved area in Baton Rouge. Her contributions were instrumental in bringing quality healthcare back to the downtown Baton Rouge area. After just two years, she was presented the Louisiana Economic Development Small Business Excellence State Award and the Microbusiness Enterprise Corporation of Ascension Parish small business of the year award.
Liz obtained her Suboxone Waiver in 2018. At the time, she was one of only 10 nurse practitioners in the state of Louisiana to obtain certification. She sold her private practice, began practicing addiction medicine in 2019, and joined the Avenues team in March of 2020.
Liz has 6 daughters, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Emily Wilkins, LCMHC, MLADC has worked in the addiction field for over a decade. Emily has a background in family therapy and clinical mental health counseling and brings a trauma-informed approach to her work with clients struggling with addiction.
Prior to becoming a director, Emily worked as a BHT, family therapist, individual therapist, and clinical supervisor. Her wide-ranging experience has given her a broad perspective. She understands the importance of each role in treatment, and has an uncanny knack for supplying the necessary guidance and support to ensure that each member of her clinical team is primed for success.
Emily approaches substance use treatment with an unceasing positive outlook. She believes deeply that each client deserves unconditional kindness and respect, regardless of the behaviors they are struggling with.
Holly Haft has been an impactful nurse in the mental health & addiction field for close to a decade. She received her ASN from Breckenridge School of Nursing and is furthering her education by pursuing a BSN at Purdue Northwest College. Holly served our country with distinction for 13 years in her position as an E5 Military policewoman in the United States Navy, and specialized in corrections.
Holly takes great pride in making our clients feel genuinely cared for. She is determined to help them realize that being addicted does not need to define them as a person and that recovery is possible.
Holly hails from Pasadena, California, and has made her home in Fort Wayne since 2011.
I am one who has been to treatment multiple times at other facilities and was not able to stay in long-term recovery. Avenues was a much needed experience that has renewed my hope for sobriety. Jamel Garrett, a native of Clayton, NC, is on a mission to make a positive impact through his career in mental health services. He acquired an Associates in Applied Science in Mental Health Services and holds certifications as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (2013) and Maryland Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor, in addition to being a Maryland ADT.
Jamel's dedication to his field extends to his ongoing pursuit of knowledge. Currently, he is in the midst of a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program at Walden University, demonstrating his commitment to furthering his credentials and expanding his expertise.
His career path was shaped by a profound realization during his deployment to Iraq in 2008, where he discovered his passion for assisting others through their struggles. This revelation led him to transition from Security Forces to Mental Health Services. In 2014, after becoming a certified counselor, he was stationed at the DoD prison in Charleston, SC, solidifying his desire to continue this work beyond his military retirement. Having witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of untreated mental health issues and addictions on both his career and his family, Jamel is determined to contribute to the healing process.
In his personal life, Jamel is a proud husband and father to two children. His two-decade-long career in the Air Force has instilled in him a strong sense of discipline and dedication. Beyond his professional pursuits, he finds enjoyment in basketball, reading, and the enriching experiences of travel. Jamel's multifaceted life reflects his commitment to his family, his country, and his enduring passion for helping others find healing and hope.
Jamie has been working in the mental health field since 2017. He grew up in Methuen, Massachusetts, and later moved to New Hampshire in his early 20s. When he learned he was going to be a father, Jamie decided he wanted to set an example for his children by pursuing an education. It took him 10 years, off and on, to find his calling in psychology. Once he realized his passion, Jamie changed his major at Mount Washington College and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in psychology. He then continued his education at Southern New Hampshire University, where he obtained a Master's degree in Psychology. Currently, he is pursuing a degree in Mental Health Counseling at his alma mater, with the goal of becoming independently licensed.
After spending several years in sales, Jamie had a change of heart when he lost someone close to him to an overdose. He wanted to make a difference in people's lives by helping them find peace and happiness without turning to substances. Jamie has since found great fulfillment in his career and is grateful for the wonderful people he has met and worked with along the way.
Jamie lives with his dog, Huey, and has two grown sons. He enjoys snowboarding, hiking, and doing other physical activities with his family. Jamie is also learning to play the guitar and speak Spanish, two things that have been on his bucket list. He firmly believes in the potential for personal growth and strives to seize every opportunity to better himself and others.
Jane has been providing counseling services to a diverse population of individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders for over 8 years. She began her career as a counselor during her internship while still an undergrad student and went on to receive her MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through New England College. Jane now holds masters' level licenses in Addiction and Mental Health Counseling and has received additional training in Trauma Informed Care, Acquired Brain Injury, EMDR, and Clinical Supervision. She has found that she thrives in the atmosphere of residential treatment and the family-like work environment. Jane loves to learn and grow, and enjoys sharing her belief that all those she works with have this same potential when provided with encouragement and support.
Jeff Pickett is a counselor who is passionate about helping people live more authentic and fulfilling lives. He has a degree in Business Administration and a Master's in Clinical Mental Health. Jeff is currently working towards his licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of New Hampshire and is also working on getting his certification in EMDR. He is married with two cats and two dogs. In his spare time, he enjoys doing outdoor activities, traveling, and enxploring cultural arts.
Jeff is the Administrator of Avenues Lake Ariel, and has been in the recovery field for 8 years. Originally from Greenfield Township, Jeff is also a CPR Instructor at Avenues. He found his way to the recovery field because of his love for helping people, and watching their amazing transformations as they go through the program.
Jeff has 2 wonderful kids who are the soul and spark behind everything he does. He loves to take his vacation to the beach, where he can get on a boat, go fishing, and escape the shore for a bit.
Jenna Smith is from Tunkhannock, PA. She went to Keystone College and achieved a MPAS at Marywood University. She is CAQ-psych. She chose this career because she watched loved ones suffer tremendously from addiction and she felt compelled to show the same amount of compassion, love, and support to other individuals struggling with substance abuse and mental health. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her 2 dogs, Xena and Lola, playing softball, and going to the gym. She loves to travel and experience new places.
Jenny Dow, originally from Boston, is a compassionate advocate for addiction treatment, shaped by her upbringing near "Methadone Mile" at Boston City Hospital. Witnessing the struggles of those battling addiction ignited her passion to make a difference.
With a Bachelor of Science in Human Service - specializing in addiction - from Cambridge College, Jenny brings authenticity, humor, and empathy to her work. Understanding the deep-seated shame and guilt experienced by those in active addiction, she champions unconditional positive regard and compassion.
In her personal life, Jenny is a dedicated mother to a teenage daughter and a beloved French Bulldog named Kobe Bryant. She loves channeling her creativity into her wreath-making business and enjoys participating in craft shows! Finding solace in nature, Jenny loves camping trips and beach outings, and her musical taste leans towards rap.
Jessica Blood, of Salisbury, MD, is a Primary Counselor with a passion for mental health and addiction treatment. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Salisbury University and an associate's degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling from Wor-Wic Community College. Currently pursuing her MSW, Jessica's ultimate goal is to obtain her LCSW-C alongside her CAC-AD credential.
Driven by a desire to make a difference in mental health, Jessica found her calling in addiction treatment and has loved her career ever since. She specializes in supporting clients who have faced challenging circumstances, where substance use became their primary coping mechanism. Watching her clients evolve into their best selves is what fuels her dedication to her work, and guiding them to recognize their inherent value is hands-down the most rewarding part of her job.
Outside of work, Jessica's faithful dog Cleo accompanies her on all her adventures - whether it's hiking, beach outings, attending concerts, participating in Disney half marathons, or exploring new destinations through travel. Jonathan Elia is the Administrator at Avenues Recovery of Fort Wayne. He was born and raised on the coast of Connecticut in a town called East Lyme. Jonathan made the move to Fort Wayne with his girlfriend and 3 lovely dogs and is excited to begin his journey working with Avenues Recovery. He strongly believes that recovery isn't just about being sober, but also about finding happiness and joy in yourself and those around you. He is eternally grateful for the support of his amazing family and close group of friends. They have helped him reach the place where he is at. As someone in recovery himself, Jonathan looks forward to giving back to the recovery community.
Julia has worked in addiction treatment for over five years and is currently a therapist at Avenues. She has her CADAC II and is currently finishing a bachelor's of Science in Psychology at Purdue University Fort Wayne. Once completed, Julia plans to pursue a master's in Social Work. In long-term recovery herself, Julia recognizes that there are multiple pathways to recovery and that each person seeking lifelong recovery must be empowered to find what works for them. "You can't keep dancing with the devil and ask why you're still in hell," is her favorite quote, and the message she tries to impart constantly to those under her care.

Kaitlyn Corden is the Administrator of Avenues Recovery Center in Covington, Louisiana. A native of the state, originally from Slidell, she now calls Mandeville her home, where she resides with her loving family. Kaitlyn is not only a dedicated wife but also a devoted mother to her two sons, Layton and Lucas, and a grateful bonus mom to Thomas.
While Kaitlyn's role as an administrator often keeps her on call 24/7, she manages to cherish her rare moments of free time. An avid traveler, she has recently explored Greece and Belgium, with dreams of visiting Italy and Sweden in the future. With over 26 years of experience in social work and mental health, Katie has a passion for addiction treatment and helping others.
In December 2022, Katie joined Avenues Recovery Center to lead the clinical team. Her vast clinical expertise and guidance enable her to provide the best possible treatment and outcomes for clients. Katie believes in proper diagnosis and treatment as the foundation for success in recovery, and she brings a unique perspective to addiction treatment.
Outside of work, Katie is a family-oriented person with five children and one grandchild on the way. She lives in Calvert County with her two dogs and enjoys traveling, skiing, relaxing at the beach, and baking desserts in her free time.
Kayla has worked in the addiction field for the last 2 years. Kayla obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She is certified to treat Veterans in Recovery as well as in utilization of Accelerated Resolution Therapy. Kayla looks forward to furthering her education by obtaining her LDAC as well as a master's in Addiction in the near future.
Prior to entering the substance use treatment field, Kayla worked in varied roles, ranging from customer service to Direct Support of developmentally and mentally ill clientele.
Kayla is always up for a challenge and will always provide a listening ear and safe space for her clients to turn to. She is extremely passionate about substance abuse treatment and helping those suffering from addiction, as she knows this community is often forgotten or dismissed by society.

Kenesha Taylor is originally from Pocomoke, MD, and has pursued higher education at Wor-Wic Community College and Wilmington University. She has earned an AA Degree and is currently in school working towards completing her BA in the Fall of 2023.
Kenesha has chosen her field with a specific goal in mind - she wanted to change the lives of people. Providing education while giving them strength and hope is her ultimate objective, and she is passionate about achieving that goal. She strongly believes in the transformative power of education and is dedicated to making a positive impact on people's lives through her work.
When Kenesha is not busy with her studies, she enjoys indulging in her favorite pastimes, such as going to Target, eating crabs, and traveling. These activities help her to unwind and recharge so she can stay focused and motivated in her work.
Kiley Hache is a nurse practitioner who specializes in addiction treatment. He began his career in health care in 1989, on the nursing staff at McLean Hospital, a psychiatric facility outside of Boston. After completing his masters at Emory University, he worked in emergency medicine for ten years in both the Atlanta metropolitan area and New England. In 2019, he returned to New Hampshire and began working at Avenues in Concord. He is passionate about mental health and providing genuinely compassionate care to his clients. In his free time, he enjoys being involved with community theater.

Kris Lang is the Office/Operations Manager for Avenues Recovery Extended Care. She has an associate's degree in Accounting and Business Management. Kris has worked in the Mental Health Field for over 20 years. She assisted in the development of a Substance Use Treatment Program in the local community recently and found this to be her passion. Her goal is to use her many years of experience to help build and maintain Avenues Recovery Extended Care's success and respect in the treatment community.
Lee Funkhouser hails from Redkey, Indiana. He has worked at Avenues Recovery Center for over two years, moving from the role of Group Facilitator to Primary Therapist. He is a graduate of Anderson University, with a Bachelor's degree in business administration as well as an Associate's degree in Human Services and Addiction Studies. Lee's Higher Power has given him the opportunity to regain 30 years of life lost to addiction. He has been able to turn every painful experience into a positive by going from drug dealer to therapist, and beacon of hope and light. The therapeutic value of one addict helping another addict is unparalleled, and it is his wish to be of help to another . Demonstrating his constant commitment to providing gold-standard, highly effective services to his clients, Lee is currently working towards receiving his Master's degree in social work. Outside of Avenues, Lee runs several recovery meetings (Brianna's Hope, AA, and NA), and is an active member in the recovery community. When he is not working, attending school, or volunteering at different organizations, Lee enjoys spending time with his family, friends, playing guitar, and losing himself in art.
Linda Thompson is a born and bred Fort Wayne girl. She attended IPFW and California State University Dominguez Hills, where she earned her Master's degree in Social Work.
Linda's personal journey to recovery began in 1987, and she became involved in the field of recovery around 1988, while working alongside her future husband in his nonprofit organization, 'Building on Sobriety". In 1990, Linda established 'Pathways to Your Future', providing shelter for homeless individuals battling alcoholism and addiction. Her dedication and passion for this cause have remained steadfast over the years, grounded in her belief of staying sober one day at a time and prioritizing faith in God.
Outside of her work, Linda finds joy in traveling, having explored destinations like Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Jamaica, and various states within the US. While the pandemic temporarily halted her travels, she eagerly anticipates resuming her adventures, with Ghana being her dream destination. Additionally, Linda is deeply passionate about learning and teaching African American history and culture, finding fulfillment in sharing knowledge and fostering understanding of this rich heritage.

Makayla Seifert is a certified alcohol and drug counselor at Avenues in Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania. She was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania and went to Lackawanna College for her bachelors degree in human services. Makayla is currently pursuing her masters degree in social work at Widener University and her main goal is to obtain her license in clinical social work. She chose this career because of her passion for helping and supporting others in need. Makayla has worked in the substance abuse field for several years now, and truly believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to get sober and live a happy and healthy lifestyle. She loves Avenues' commitment towards clients' recovery, and their family approach that provides clients with genuine care and love. In Makayla's free time, she loves to be outdoors and go hiking with her dog Malcom while listening to Elton John.
Marion Coletrain hails from Long Island, NY, where he nurtured his passion for addiction treatment. His educational journey led him to various prestigious institutions, including Boston University, where he earned his Bachelor's degree, and Webster University, where he achieved a Master's degree. Currently, he is diligently working on his dissertation at the University of Phoenix, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to furthering his education.
Marion's impressive list of degrees is complemented by his recent achievement of becoming an approved supervisor with Alcohol and Drug Certification in April 2023.
His career choice is driven by a profound desire to advocate for those who are often overlooked-the "lost, the least, and the left out." Marion's unique perspective on addiction treatment recognizes it as a complex biopsychosocial disease, encompassing mental, physical, social and emotional dimensions.

Marissa Sauer is the Clinical Director at Avenues Recovery of Fort Wayne. She has her master's degree in Education from Indiana University and is licensed in Marriage and Family as well as Mental Health Counseling. Marissa has presented in the community about complex trauma and how mental health providers can work more efficiently with clients. She is excited to continue to serve her community in this impactful role. Marissa enjoys group exercises, reading, traveling, and spending time with her husband.
Mary joined the Avenues team in December of 2021, after a 17-year career at residential SUD treatment centers in Keene and Dublin, NH. During that time, she held a number of roles, ranging from office assistant to program director, with a focus on non-clinical duties such as billing, HR, health and safety, and quality assurance.
Mary has a bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Massachusetts and was the office manager for her family's tree service business for many years before changing careers. She often reflects on how rewarding it has been to build a career in substance use disorder treatment, with real opportunities every day to work with dedicated and committed coworkers supporting individuals on a difficult path.
Mary enjoys knitting and other creative arts, and loves trying new foods. She is also a rudimental snare drummer.

Matthew Engler is the Regional Executive Director for Avenues Recovery of Louisiana. After having grown up in Destrehan, Louisiana, Matthew joined the military where he spent his enlistment in Kaneohe, Hawaii. Upon getting sober he ultimately began working in the substance abuse treatment industry. He started his career as a Behavioral Health Technician and moved throughout multiple departments working multiple positions which gave him a wholistic understanding of what the clients need and how to best serve them. Matthew is a loving father to two young boys. He and his children spend their time fishing, camping, and enjoying the outdoors. Matthew believes in and exhibits his core values of family, hard work, dedication, and commitment. Through his work, Matthew hopes to have an impact on addiction, treatment, and recovery for the suffering addict and those close to them. His biggest passion in the workplace is to identify entry level employees as top-level leaders and aid them in the path to becoming that leader.

Nancy Davis is a certified interventionist and registered addictions counselor based in the vibrant city of New Orleans. After attending UNO briefly, she found her true calling in addiction treatment and pursued certifications in that field.
Originally hailing from New Orleans, Nancy has always had a passion for connecting with and helping people. having overcome personal struggles with addiction, her passion for helping others find their path to recovery only deepened. It's this firsthand experience that shapes her unique approach to addiction treatment - a compassionate understanding coupled with unwavering support.
Nancy remains dedicated to her career, guiding individuals towards a life of sobriety and fulfillment. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her nieces, nephews, and their children, and embracing the peaceful life her recovery has granted her.
Randi Menesses Bird is a compassionate healthcare professional born and raised in New Orleans, LA. She holds a undergrad BSN from William Carey University, as well as a Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Southeastern Louisiana University. She is also a family nurse practitioner (FNP-C).
Randi's journey into addiction treatment began during her tenure as an Emergency Room nurse, where she spent eight years caring for patients grappling with addiction. Witnessing the human stories behind the clinical labels, she realized that addiction is not merely a behavioral choice but a complex disease deserving of empathy and care. Armed with her nursing experience and a deep understanding of addiction, Randi is passionate about helping individuals reclaim their lives from the grip of addiction.
On a personal note, Randi is a devoted wife and mother of two children aged three and five. In her free time, she loves embarking on family adventures and exploring new destinations, as well as caring for her pet chickens and family dog!
Ruthie Jackson is a dedicated addiction treatment professional originally from St. Marys. She has a BA in Psychology from Salisbury University and a BA in Art from Catholic University. Ruthie expanded her knowledge of the field by achieving her Certificate in Drug and Alcohol Counseling, as she found many of her clients in Mental Health were dually diagnosed. Although she did not expect to work directly in addiction treatment, she was offered a part-time position and has never looked back. Ruthie loves her job at Avenues and is grateful that life guided her in this direction.
In her personal life, Ruthie believes that family is everything. She spends all of her free time with her husband and son, traveling and experiencing new adventures together. Ruthie knows that life is short, and she treasures every precious moment.
Samantha has a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Psychology, recently obtained her CADAC II certification, and plans on getting her MSW someday in the future.
Working in the substance abuse field has been Samantha's dream ever since starting her undergrad, and her passion only grew as she walked through life and grew to see and experience the impact of addiction through the experiences of those closest to her. She feels that it is an absolute honor to work with this population and show them the kindness and compassion they deserve.
In Samantha's spare time she likes to binge-watch 15 seasons of Supernatural with her spunky black cat Azazel, as well as spend time reading all about serial killers and cold cases.
Sara Vitale, BS, currently resides in Athens, Vermont, but her roots trace back to Rockport, Massachusetts. She embarked on her college journey at the University of Northern Colorado, pursuing a double major in acting and directing. However, her academic path eventually led her to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix. Sara's quest for knowledge also took her to UCLA for a semester, where she delved into the intricacies of advanced screenplay writing.
Presently, Sara is a dedicated student at Touro University, where she is enrolled in the Masters program with a specialization in Addiction Counseling. Her ambitions include obtaining her LADC (Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor) certification and later pursuing her MLADC (Master Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor) once she completes her Master's degree.
Sara's profound commitment to the field of addiction counseling stems from her personal experiences with addiction. She firmly believes in the resilience of individuals in their battle against addiction, recognizing the pivotal role that education and support play in this struggle.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Sara remains an active member of her community. She engages in community theater both as a director and actor, accumulating numerous accolades for her original screenplays. In addition, she nurtures her creative side through oil painting and photography.
Family is of paramount importance to Sara, as she cherishes her three remarkable children, along with her furry companions - two dogs and four cats.
Sarah Sims was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She graduated from Ball State University with her Bachelor's degree in social work, and currently holds her CADACII certification. While substance abuse treatment was not her originally her field of choice, she quickly became involved in those suffering from addiction and learned from each experience.
Sarah loved learning more about how addiction affects the brain, and the many possible pathways to healing. Her experience and perspective has been strongly influenced by the patients she has worked with over the past years, and she has a diverse view of the addiction and recovery field. In her personal life, Sarah is involved in adaptive sports, including wheelchair basketball and adaptive skiing. She enjoys working out and spending time in the great outdoors too!

Stefany Tyree, a native of Fort Wayne, holds multiple master's degrees earned through Indiana Tech and WGU. With a deep-seated passion for helping others, she is committed to making a positive impact on those around her. Having witnessed the struggles of family and friends with addiction, Stefany is determined to contribute to a brighter future for individuals in her community, believing that authentic connections are instrumental in the recovery journey.
Looking ahead, Stefany plans to pursue another master's degree to enhance her ability to support clients at Avenues Fort Wayne. Beyond her professional endeavors, Stefany finds fulfillment in motherhood, cherishing her role as a parent to a wonderful daughter who is her world. She enjoys exploring new destinations through travel and treasures moments spent with her family.
Born and raised in Sturgis, Michigan, Stephanie McKenzie graduated from the University of Saint Francis in 1997. She earned her CADAC in April 2022 and has been with ARC since October 2021.
As a Gold Star Wife, Stephanie has proudly served Allen County and surrounding communities as a Veteran Advocate since the death of her Marine husband in 2016.
Stephanie enjoys her vintage jukebox, antiques, and spending time with her three children. She has called Fort Wayne, Indiana home since August 1993.
Stephen Kessler, MHS, LPC, LAC, has been working in the addiction field since 2003. He began his career with Dr. Alphonse Kenison Roy at Addiction Recovery Resources where he worked in a variety of settings including as Primary Counselor in the programs of Intensive Outpatient, Residential Treatment, Continuing Care, and Intake and Assessments. After Hurricane Katrina, Stephen was promoted to the position of Residential Program Coordinator, a position he held for 12 years before being promoted to Clinical Director. In 2018, Stephen continued his work as Clinical Director with Avenues Recovery Center by overseeing both the Residential and IOP programs and supervising a staff of dedicated counselors. In 2019, Stephen began working in direct client care again due to missing direct interactions with patients. Stephen freely shares his experience and expertise by mentoring new counselors in the addiction field. Stephen uses a Cognitive Behavioral / REBT (Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy) counseling approach to help patients to become aware of their distorted thinking and how it plays into their addictive mind. Stephen received his master's degree in 2003 from LSU Health Science Center. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Addiction Counselor. Stephen lives in Metairie with his wife, Melissa, and their two young daughters, Lucy and Reagan.
Susan has been working as an addictions counselor for over 4 years and has been at the Dublin site for close to 7 years.
She loves what she does for the simple reason that HELP is needed and each patient deserves the best support possible. Susan feels that Avenues offers fabulous services for clients to begin the self-discovery it takes to make positive changes.
Susan is proud to be part of the Avenues team and truly enjoys watching the clientele make and reach goals. She draws great satisfaction from observing the changes clients implement that drive them to continue on their path of sobriety.
When not at work, Susan spends time swimming with her husband, or going to the beach (and eating lobster while there). They also love to kayak, fish, browse flea markets, and be with their friends!!
Tammy Brown hails from Baltimore, Maryland, but has made her home in Salisbury for the last 16 years. She serves as the administrator of Avenues Recovery Center at Eastern Shore, and is a Certified Peer Support and a Registered Peer Supervisor. Tammy is passionate about her work and takes pride in being able to help people just like her.
As a person in long term recovery, Tammy has not used any mood or mind altering substances for almost 16 years. This journey has been challenging but rewarding, and she takes great joy in being able to give hope to others who are struggling with similar issues. Watching hope come back into clients' spirits where they were once hopeless upon intake is a priceless experience for her.
Tammy is a proud mother of three grown children, aged 37, 33, and 25, and a grandmother to three beautiful grandchildren. The beach - any beach - is her best therapy, as any stress melts from her body the minute her feet hit the sand. She looks forward to her Cancun trip every year anew! She is truly grateful for the life she is living today as a person in recovery and tries to live every day to the fullest because she has never seen this day before.
Terrel's theoretical orientation leans very heavily toward Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, especially Choice Theory/Reality Therapy. His approach is to inculcate the importance of fulfilling relationships and activities which produces a greater chance of long-term recovery and happiness. Terrel decided to work with this population because he has witnessed how addiction can rob individuals of their hopes, dreams, and happiness.
His favorite quote is, "Once individuals recognize their role in creating their own life predicament, they also realize that they, and only they, have the power to change that situation" by Irvin D. Yalom. He enjoys spending time with his wife, family, and his dog Daisy.
Traci, a seasoned addictions professional, has worked with children, adolescents, families, and adults in various clinical and management roles since 1988. Traci obtained a Master's in Counseling Psychology in Addictions and Substance Abuse in 1991 and has been a licensed clinical mental health professional in NH since 2001.
Traci and her therapy dog, Wyatt, find their passion in helping others find their own recovery-centered lives. Traci has advanced experience in dual diagnosis and trauma focused treatment. She is a grateful beneficiary of animal-assisted treatment, and seeks to find ways to supplement traditional therapies with this valuable modality.

Victor Hillaert is a Nurse Practitioner currently working at Avenues. He is from Langhorne, PA but grew up in Bel Alton, MD. He has a Bachelor of Science from UMES and degrees from Salisbury University and Wilmington University. He is currently working on obtaining his Psych Certification. He chose this career because of his passion for addiction treatment and he believes that his unique perspective can help those suffering from addiction. He is married with two sons and two dogs. He enjoys sports and travel and his coolest travel spot to date is the rainforest of Costa Rica.
Wendi Bedard holds a bachelor's of Arts degree in Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University and a Master of Science in Nursing- Leadership and Management from Walden University. In her accomplished 15-year career in substance use treatment, Wendi has worked in a variety of capacities, serving as a floor nurse, nursing supervisor, clinical nurse educator, as well as an AVP of nursing overseeing multiple states.
She is dedicated to excellence in patient care, committed to utilizing evidence-based practices, and passionate about helping both individuals and families affected by addiction and co-occurring disorders. Wendi is a recovery advocate in the truest sense, recognizing that addiction is a chronic, progressive, and relapsing disease. She believes everyone seeking recovery can be successful when armed with the right tools.

Whitney Straight is the Executive Director at Avenues Recovery Fort Wayne, and has worked in the addiction field for over 15 years. She serves on several statewide and community boards relating to addiction recovery and the communities they serve. Whitney has an MBA, MDiv, and master's in Mental Health Counseling and bachelor's of Science in Addiction Counseling. In her spare time, Whitney enjoys weightlifting, contact sports, and traveling adventures with her husband, Robert. They have three children aged eight, six, and two, respectively.
Hayden is currently a LMSW, and is actively pursuing further credentials as a LCSW. His passion for addiction treatment stems from his own recovery journey, which began on June 3, 2013 with the help of an addictions treatment center. In his work, Hayden uses a diverse toolkit of therapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, and IFS (Internal Family Systems). He believes in a collaborative approach with clients, fostering a supportive environment where both client and counselor work together to address individual needs and goals.
Beyond his professional life, Hayden is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, sings and plays various musical instruments, and is a devoted weekly player of Dungeons and Dragons. He is proud papa to two beautiful girl dogs.
