Amanda Auger - CFO

She finds purpose in creating order out of chaos and providing an accurate and meaningful exchange of critical financial information to inform the goals of the organization and contribute toward the best possible outcome. Amanda has lived in the Pacific NW for nearly 20 years, and recently moved from Seattle to Bainbridge Island where she enjoys the abundance of trees, owls, frogs, and starry nights.

Audrey Haberman

Audrey Haberman is the CEO of the Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation. The foundation's mission is to increase access to systems and solutions that expand economic opportunity, supportive care for life-threatening illnesses. Audrey has spent much of her career helping mission-driven philanthropic organizations grow their impact. Prior to joining the Biller Family Foundation, Audrey served as the Managing Director of The Giving Practice (TGP), a consulting firm that works with foundations across the country. In addition to leading and significantly growing the consulting firm for 11 years, she worked with over one hundred foundation leaders, boards and staff members to sharpen their strategy, improve their culture and governance practices and incorporate diversity, equity and inclusion into all aspects of organizational life. Audrey also served as Interim CEO of Philanthropy Northwest. Audrey was the Executive Director of the Pride Foundation for twelve years, and before that she played a range of leadership roles at the Women's Funding Alliance and Seattle Rape Relief. David Goldberg - President

Debbi Brainerd - Founder

Debbi and her husband Paul co-founded IslandWood in 1999, after learning that Washington State mandated environmental education but only half of Puget Sound schoolchildren had access to environmental education programs. She is an active volunteer whose primary philanthropic interests include conservation, improving access to environmental education, and supporting sustainable community development. Debbi and her husband, Paul Brainerd, are also the founders of The Headwaters in Glenorchy, New Zealand, a sustainable tourism and community development project currently slated to open in late 2017. Debbi has served as Board Chair of IslandWood, as well as Board Chair of the Bloedel Reserve, an award-winning public garden on Bainbridge Island, WA. She and Paul were recognized by Cascade Land Conservancy with a Lifetime Achievement Award and received the University of Washington College of Education's Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Pooja Tandon

Dr. Pooja Tandon is a pediatrician and researcher at the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development at Seattle Children's Research Institute and Associate Professor at the University of Washington. Dr. Tandon attended Brown University for her undergraduate education and medical school, and completed residency training at the Boston Combined Program in Pediatrics (Boston Children's Hospital and Boston Medical Center). Edward Thomas

Kelvin has served as the Executive Director of MUST (Mentoring Urban Students and Teens) since 2020, after previously serving as Area Director since 2018. Dedicated to this belief, his sole purpose in life is to provide hope through building meaningful connections, especially for African American males. Lois Hartman

Lois Hartman, the eighth of twelve children, grew up in South Dakota. Lois applied the work ethic, accountability, and customer service skills learned in her family's grocery business to advance in a series of progressively responsible positions during her 11+ year career in Las Vegas. She began her career as the Aquatics Director of a large athletic club during a time when Las Vegas began rapidly building mega-resorts. Due to increased demand for resort lifeguards and improved pool safety programs, she founded SwimMaster's Incorporated which provided lifeguard and water safety instructor training certification, and established water fitness and pool safety programs. She subsequently joined the management team that opened the MGM Grand Hotel, the largest hotel in the world at that time, opened and managed the first hotel waterpark at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Resort, and became the pool and health spa manager for the grand re-opening of the Desert Inn Resort. Lois has held various leadership roles and served as a spokesperson for the Clark County Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross in the field of health and safety. She assisted in a national roll-out for the Lifeguard Training program and helped to implement a program in Drowning Prevention Awareness. Lois also served as an Instructor Trainer for the United States Water Fitness Association. Lois is a former high school gymnast who has competed in numerous half-marathons, marathons, and team competitions; including a 4-day multi-sport race in Dali, China. She has also acted in several television commercials and infomercials. Lois has maintained a part-time home on Bainbridge Island since 1998 and made the island her full-time home in 2012. Lois and her husband, Richard Mahoney, adopted their daughter from China in 2006. She enjoys volunteering at Saint Cecilia School and church, at the Bainbridge Island Gymnastics parent club, Bloedel Reserve, and other charitable organizations. Lois loves the outdoors and most any form of exercise, making Bainbridge Island a perfect place to live. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Behavior from the University of San Francisco, and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership in addition to a certificate of Servant Leadership from Gonzaga University.

Martha Kongsgaard

Martha Kongsgaard was born and raised in Napa, Calif., to a family of jurists, grape growers, and cattle ranchers. Kongsgaard, a lawyer, married Peter Goldman in 1988 and collaborated with him to found the Kongsgaard-Goldman Foundation, which has invested in not for profit environmental, social justice and arts organizations in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. She is a founding board member of IslandWood. Her community activities have included participation on the boards of Earthjustice, the Bullitt Foundation, The Ruckelshaus Center, Friends of the Waterfront, The Future of the Law Institute, Friends of the Methow, UW's College of the Environment and Center for Human Rights, and The Puget Sound Institute. Kongsgaard has served as the president of Philanthropy Northwest, and is the immediate past chair of the Washington Women's Foundation. Martha is the immediate past chair and founding member of the Leadership Council of the Puget Sound Partnership, and serves as Chair of the Marine Resource Advisory Council for Governor Inslee. Martha has been honored with the Nancy Nordhoff Civic Leadership Award by City Club, Woman of the Year Award by Seattle University School of Law, the Environmental Hero Award by the Washington Environmental Council, the Seattle Aquarium Medal for leadership and lifetime achievement, and in 2015, was the inaugural recipient of the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance Inspiration Award.

Megan Karch - CEO

Megan Karch has been IslandWood's CEO since 2018. Prior to joining IslandWood, Megan served as CEO of the Seattle-based nonprofit, FareStart. During her 18-year tenure at FareStart, she was an instrumental part of the organization's significant expansion, paving the way for a broader impact on homelessness in the Greater Seattle, Washington area. Megan is currently the Legislative Co-Chair of the Washington Outdoor School Coalition and serves on the board of PCC Community Markets. She has been recognized by the Puget Sound Business Journal, Senator Maria Cantwell, Seattle Business Magazine, Seattle Met, and Women's University Club Foundation for her leadership. She has served on or led the boards of the Alliance of Non-Profits, NPower, the Metropolitan Improvement District (MID), and Downtown Seattle Association (DSA). Megan has also served on the Impact Assessment Committee for Washington Women's Foundation and the Governor's State Advisory Board on Homelessness. Pamela Holmes - COO

Soon after moving to Bainbridge in 2000, Pamela Holmes followed with great interest the news of a planned outdoor learning center on the island. Six months after IslandWood's official opening, she joined the organization as a volunteer and, shortly thereafter, became a staff member. Currently the Director of Operations, Pamela brings extensive administrative experience to the position from a variety of businesses and organizations, including in the area of community development. "I feel very fortunate that IslandWood is in my backyard and that I've had the opportunity to grow and evolve along with the organization over the past 16 years. Starting as a volunteer, I immediately felt connected to the mission and vision, and knew I wanted to be a part of IslandWood long term."

Patricia Wasley

Pat is responsible for establishing educational priorities for new video production and product development, ensuring all of Teaching Channel's work is pedagogically sound and managing outreach to the education and academic communities. Prior to joining Teaching Channel, Dr. Wasley was dean of the College of Education at the University of Washington from 2000 to 2012. She has conducted a variety of research on student voice, teacher education, and whole-school reform and authored several books on school reform, including Teachers Who Lead and Stirring the Chalkdust, and is the co-author of Kids and School Reform. Pat sits on advisory boards and board of directors for several regional and national education-focused nonprofit organizations. These include the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards; the Washington State Professional Educator Standards Board; the Scarsdale Teachers Institute; the University of Kansas Institute for Academic Access; the Educational Video Center; the Teaching and Change Editorial Review Board; the Journal for a Just and Caring Education Editorial Review Board; the SoundOut advisory board; board emeritus for IslandWood; and as an ex officio member of the Foxfire Corporation Board of Directors.

Paul Brainerd - Founder

Paul and his wife Debbi co-founded IslandWood in 1999. Previously, Paul worked in the software industry for many years. He founded Aldus Corporation and coined the term "desktop publishing" for Aldus PageMaker software that allowed layout and design to be performed on microcomputers. In 1994, he founded The Brainerd Foundation to protect environmental quality in the Pacific Northwest. Paul is a founding partner of Social Venture Partners. Paul and Debbi's newest philanthropic venture is a net-zero energy, sustainable tourism and community development project in New Zealand known as The Headwaters. Paul and Debbi were recognized by Cascade Land Conservancy with a Lifetime Achievement Award and received the University of Washington College of Education's Distinguished Service Award.

Ty is a community volunteer. A mother of six, she has devoted much of her time volunteering for various school efforts including the Chair of the Board for Lakeside School. Previously a certified Childbirth Educator and doula she continues to support maternal and family health through the Human Right to Family Planning Initiative, the Bastyr University Department of Midwifery, and as a member of the University of Washington Department of Global Health Leadership Council. For recreation she enjoys triathlons and has completed two IronMan Races. Ty, and her husband, are founders of Heyday Farm, on Bainbridge Island, a sustainable, agricultural effort to provide locally sourced foods to the community. She holds an MA from the Maxwell School of Public Administration, Syracuse University and a Graduate Certificate in Global Health from the University of Washington.
