Adam is a graduate of the dual Canadian and American Juris Doctor programs at the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy. During law school, Adam completed a legal internship at the Third Judicial Circuit Court of Michigan. He was involved in several extracurricular activities, including the Windsor Law Hockey Team and the Windsor Law Golf Association. Prior to law school, Adam obtained his Bachelor of Sport Management from Brock University.
Before joining the firm as an associate, Adam summered and articled at an international full-service firm in Toronto and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2020. Outside of the office, Adam enjoys playing hockey, golfing and attending live music shows.

Alan Cofman is an accomplished and versatile commercial litigation lawyer. Alan provides dependable and strategic advice to businesses, and he resolves litigious disputes in arbitrations, administrative law, traditional litigation, and appeals. A substantial portion of his practice focuses on the transportation and logistics industry.
Alan's transportation experience is significantly related to Canadian maritime law. In this space, his clients have ranged from a waterski school, to Great Lakes carriers, to a uranium exporter, and everything in-between. Alan addresses regulatory matters, Transport Canada issues, cargo claims, maritime liens, vessel and cargo arrests, and all manner of navigation-related issues. He also assists in commercial transactions, especially to assess and mitigate risk.
In the transportation and logistics sector more generally, Alan acts for all interested parties, including shippers, carriers, consignees, forwarders, brokers, warehousers, insurers, and others. He regularly addresses federally and provincially regulated activities, including the transportation of dangerous goods and issues governed by the Canada Shipping Act, 2001.
In general commercial litigation, Alan has acted in a broad range of matters, including with respect to shareholder disputes, franchise disputes, the sale of goods, oppression and equitable remedies. He also regularly addresses tort claims, including product liability matters and professional liability, especially broker liability.
Insurance is the glue that holds many of these practice areas together. Alan advises on coverage and other matters.
Alan has appeared in all levels of court in Ontario, British Columbia, and the Federal Courts, before various other courts across Canada, and a host of administrative tribunals and arbitration panels.
Alan has long maintained leadership roles on the executives of the National Maritime Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association and the Toronto Jewish Law Society, and he is active in other groups. Alan also provides pro bono services though Law Help Ontario.

Allan Ritchie is the Managing Partner of Loopstra Nixon LLP. He oversees a broad business law practice covering all aspects of corporate law, taxation, mergers & acquisitions, finance, real estate, as well as wealth management and succession planning.
He is well versed in all aspects of corporate law, complex tax-driven reorganizations and succession planning, public and private market mergers and acquisitions as well as all aspect of real property acquisition and finance and commercial lending. He is actively engaged overseeing complex commercial disputes and facilitating out of court resolution. He is supported by a multi-faceted team of skilled lawyers, law clerks and professionals who work tirelessly to deliver results for clients.
A trusted advisor to many of Canada's most successful multi-generational entrepreneurial families as well as general corporate counsel to some of Canada's largest privately held businesses, Allan is sought after by financial institutions to lead their cross-border initiatives and is a go-to counsel for international private capital players making acquisitions in the US and Canada.
Allan serves on the boards of directors of several private and not-for-profit organizations and is a frequent speaker on matters of law firm management, strategy and talent development. He is adjunct professor of law at Toronto Metropolitan University Law School where he teaches Business Law & Practice, the Finance Intensive and his real passion project, Business of Lawyering. In Business of Lawyering, students engage in a critical analysis of private law practice, law firm culture and explore various law practice business models. The course culminates in a detailed business planning project where students will create a detailed business plan for their fictional law firm.
Allan has received numerous accolades for his work in both Canada and the U.S. In 2020, he was awarded the Ontario Bar Association's Lauren Rachlin Award for Excellence in International Business Law as well as being named to the Buffalo Law Journal's ‘Legal Elite' list of the most influential lawyers in Western New York. He has been frequently listed among Lexpert Magazine's leading Corporate & Finance Lawyers in Canada and in 2020 was named to Canada's Legal Top 40 Under 40. In 2022 Allan was awarded the Ted Rogers School of Management Trailblazer Award for lifetime achievement in Canadian Business.
Allan holds degrees from Queen's University (BA), Toronto Metropolitan University (MBA), University of Toronto (JD), Osgoode Hall (LLM Tax), Oxford University (MSc Tax), and Harvard Business School (GMP). He is currently completing his Ph.D. at the University of Exeter Law School in the UK where his thesis is titled "Liability and Legal Issues in Merger and Acquisition Transactions: A Jurisprudential Analysis and Mitigation Strategies".
Allan grew up in Timmins Ontario, but has made his home in Etobicoke for the last 20 years where he lives with his wife and two young children.

His practice involves all aspects of real estate transactions. Prior to joining Loopstra Nixon, Bill was a Founding Partner of Realty Law, a firm that provided real estate services to clients across Ontario. By embracing new technologies and recent developments in real estate procedures, Bill established a practice that focuses on communicating with clients and delivering exceptional service.
Before practicing real estate, Bill articled and practiced at a civil litigation firm where he appeared before the Ontario Superior Court and at Examinations for Discovery on many occasions. His litigation experience serves him well when circumstances require it in his real estate practice. Bill spent his first year of law school in Australia at the University of Melbourne and then returned to Ontario to complete his Juris Doctor at the University of Windsor. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Wilfred Laurier University. Bill also serves as the Real Estate Chair on the Toronto Law Journal Editorial Board, a journal published by the Toronto Lawyers Association (TLA).
Bill manages to enjoy sports while also being a self-proclaimed "computer nerd". He has always been a member of one hockey league or another and enjoys playing competitive video games at the highest ranks, something he wishes he could put on his LinkedIn profile.
