Dr. Whaley began his college education at Roane State. He earned Roane State's highest student award, continued his education at Middle Tennessee State University and earned his law degree from the University of Tennessee.
After three years in private practice as an attorney, Dr. Whaley returned to the college in 1997 as program director of the A.A.S. Paralegal Studies program, a position he held until 2010. Since then he has served in positions of successively greater administrative responsibility at the college. He was named dean of social science, business and education in 2002, and in 2010 was promoted to vice president of student learning/chief academic officer. Dr. Whaley became Roane State's fifth president on November 1, 2012.

He also has worked as an interim assistant principal and guidance counselor in Iowa City, Iowa, as assistant principal and principal in Mankato, Minnesota, and as associate superintendent of secondary schools for the Anoka-Hennepin, Minnesota, School District. Prior to joining the Oak Ridge Schools, Dr. Borchers was the Superintendent of the Rockwood School District from 2010 to 2013.
Dr. Borchers earned a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, and master's degrees from Wayne State College and the University of South Dakota.

Gene Patterson is the Community Relations lead at the Y-12 National Security Complex. He works with local government and community leaders on initiatives that impact Anderson County and the area, and he provides guidance to nonprofit organizations on how to best access resources at Y-12.
Gene joined the Y-12 communications team in 2015, after more than 30 years in television news.
Gene has won numerous Tennessee Associated Press (AP) and East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) awards during his broadcast career, including the National Edward R Murrow award in 2011 for his series, Mission to Africa.
Gene serves on several boards, including Center for Leadership and Community Development (CLCD), ADFAC and East Tennessee Foundation. He is a member the Oak Ridge Chamber Advocacy Committee, the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce board of directors, and the Knoxville Chamber's Government Relations Committee.

Jim Wood joined Y-12 FCU in 2020 as the Chief Lending Officer, bringing over 30 years of CU leadership to their team. He is an avid golfer and fan of about any sport. In support of these efforts, he facilitates training in problem solving, leadership development, and continuous improvement activities for internal workforce development systems.
