Scrum is a framework for organizing work, based on timeless principals from Lean, and featuring most of what people equate with Agile development. The Lean foundations go back to the original paper by Takeuchi and Nonaka, "The New New Product Development Game," which built an integrated theory based on an aggregate study of work at Fuji-Xerox, Honda, Cannon, and NEC.
