Katey Hockenbury

Job Titles:
  • Project Manager MTW Division
Katey grew up in New Jersey right along the Delaware River. She loved the river and the shore, but had to get out and see more of the world. After graduating from Tulane University in New Orleans with a B.S. in Environmental Science, she had to leave the city to pursue an environmentalist's career path. She worked for a non-profit based out of Pennsylvania canvassing to urge the EPA to ban a class of pesticides linked to Colony Collapse Disorder and the dying bee population, following her college dreams of changing the world through policy. Three months working on this one campaign really shined a light on the realities of working for the EPA. At the end of the summer she was at a crossroads. She could continue on the campaign in Berkeley, California as a program director full-time or move to Utah to be corpsmember for 3 months. That was almost three years ago. She realized she was more passionate about hands on conservation work than the policies behind conservation. She worked as a corpsmember, then Assistant Crew Leader, then Crew Leader during her 2.5 years here at ACE MtW. Her time was split between restoration projects and rock work heavy trails projects. She has stepped into the role of Project Manager and Chainsaw Program Manager. When she's not visiting crews or fixing chainsaws you can find her rock climbing, on river paddle trips, and amateurishly identifying birds, rocks, and wildflowers.
