When I was 12 or 13 years old, a school friend's father, who owned a used car sales company, had a 1950 Chevrolet without engine and transmission that he wanted to sell. My father gave me permission to buy the car, and he would go on to teach me how to build the complete engine for the engineless car. After we completed the engine build and getting the car running, I sold the car for huge profit (in my eyes). That would have been in 1959... In my junior year I took auto shop class. One day a bunch of my class mates were talking about going to Fremont Drag Strip the coming weekend. That weekend a couple of my buddies and I headed out to try to find the Fremont Drag Strip. We finally found the dragstrip off of Durham road and I-880 in Fremont. Not ever having been to a drag race before, I pulled down towards the end of the track where there were less people around.
