About Us - Company History From 1936 when John Portlock joined Pyrene, the largest fire protection company in Britain the Portlock family has been involved with firefighting. Evan Portlock joined Pyrene in 1970 and in 1976 upon John's retirement father and son decided to form their own company EJP Fire Protection. Evan managed the company between 1978 and 1999; business grew steadily as multi-national organisations through to small businesses experienced our excellent levels of service at very competitive prices - principles that EJP Fire Protection prides itself on more than ever today. In 1999 Evan's eldest son Andrew joined the successful family firm as Managing Director and under his leadership the company has expanded in all areas, with more staff, an ever increasing customer base and a larger operation which extends to the East Midlands, East Anglia, West Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Dorset compared to our original Kent, East Sussex and South East London area.
