Athena Kong

Athena Kong joined Metcalfe, Blainey & Burns LLP in September 2022 as an articling student and was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 2023. Athena specializes in a broad range of corporate and commercial matters, with an interest in developing her expertise in commercial real estate. Athena graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where she also completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws program. She further pursued her legal education at the University of Toronto, earning a Master of Laws degree with high distinctions. Before embarking on her legal career in Canada, Athena completed her legal training at a prestigious Hong Kong law firm that specialized in initial public offerings (IPOs). She also achieved admission as a Solicitor of the High Court of Hong Kong. With fluency in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, Athena brings her diverse language skills to effectively communicate and serve a wide range of clients. Her international background and experiences contribute to her comprehensive understanding of legal issues in corporate and commercial law.

Edmond Wong

Having obtained his Juris Doctor in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Edmond joined Metcalfe, Blainey & Burns LLP in February 2022. Edmond practices primarily in corporate and commercial law, with developing interests in labour & employment law and administrative law. Edmond holds a Bachelor of Commerce with high distinctions from Ryerson University, where he was enrolled in the charter class of the School of Accounting and Finance. During his undergraduate years, Edmond received the honored LPP Volunteer Certificate from Ryerson Law Center for his continual commitment and dedication to the school's Law Practice Program. Edmond is also the recipient of the Pascal Mathematics Contest School Champion, a distinguished medal awarded by the University of Waterloo. Combined with his solid business background, Edmond believes his unique sensitivity to numbers and his ability to understand financial statements compliments his practice as a corporate and commercial lawyer. Edward Choi

Edward graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of New Brunswick. After receiving his Juris Doctor (JD) degree, Edward completed his articling at Metcalfe, Blainey & Burns LLP and was Called to the Bar of Ontario in January 2017. Prior to practicing law, Edward held positions in the private, public, not-for-profit, and educational sectors. In addition to his JD degree, Edward also holds a LLM in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution from the University of Hong Kong, a LLB from Queen Mary, University of London, and a BBA (Honours Bachelor of Business Administration) from Wilfrid Laurier University. Edward is interested in a variety of areas of law, including civil litigation, dispute resolution, constitutional law, human rights, employment and labour law, landlord and tenant law, consumer protection, real estate, and Christian religious freedoms. Edward regularly appears at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and a number of administrative tribunals. Edward currently serves as an elected Bencher on the Convocation of the Law Society of Ontario, which governs the regulator of the legal professions (lawyers and paralegals) in Ontario. Edward is a member of the Christian Legal Fellowship, the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers, the Christian Legal Society, the Runnymede Society, the Ontario Bar Association, and the Canadian Bar Association. Edward currently serves as a Vice Chair on the Markham Public Library Board and as a Member of the Race Relations Committee of the City of Markham. Iris Chung

Iris was admitted and called as Solicitor and Barrister of Ontario in 2002. Her areas of practice include will, trust, estate planning, and corporate/commercial law. As part of her will and trust practice, Iris advises clients on guardianship issues and care for children with special needs. She also works closely with clients' accountants to assist corporate clients in using tax-efficient ways to structure corporate/commercial transactions. Prior to MBB Law, Iris practiced with Thorsteinssons, one of the leading tax law firms in Canada, as tax lawyer. Before pursuing her legal career, Iris had had years of experience as a newspaper reporter. Iris regularly presents at seminars on guardianship, will, trust, estate planning and corporate/commercial law. Major banks and organizations like Yee Hong and Centre for Information & Community Services often invite her as speaker for staff training sessions and seminars to their patrons, members and the general public.

Janet Lee

Janet has been practising law for more than 17 years. Prior to MBB Law, she worked at several Bay Street and international law firms, including Osler and Gowlings. Her clients include private and public companies, banks, pension funds and high net worth individuals.

Jensen Yuen

Jensen Yuen joined Metcalfe, Blainey & Burns LLP as a counsel in 2019. Prior to practicing in Canada, Jensen served a year of pupillage (articling) with several prominent members of the Hong Kong Bar, which includes a short stint as a Judge's Marshall at the High Court of Hong Kong. Jensen was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2013 as a Barrister-at-Law and developed a successful specialized practice in personal injuries litigations where he was frequently entrusted to handle complex and high value claims. Jensen was called to the Ontario Bar in 2019 and engages in a wide variety of civil practices with a "client centric" approach. Jensen is also developing his interest in immigration law. Jensen was a certified panel lawyer of the Hong Kong Duty Lawyer Service's "Convention Against Torture and Non-refoulement Claims Scheme", where he regularly ​represents claimants from various countries making non-refoulment applications under the UNHCR's Convention Against Torture. He now works closely with MBB Immigration, particularly for Humanitarian and Compassionate cases where his advocacy skills are called into play. Jensen is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Sammy Lee

Mr. Lee obtained his LL.B. degree from the University of Hong Kong in 1976. He received further training in the United Kingdom and became a Barrister-at-Law in Hong Kong and in England in 1977. He obtained a Master degree in Public Administration from the University of Hong Kong in 1981. Before he emigrated to Canada, Mr. Lee practiced as a Barrister in Hong Kong for 12 years. He has a wealth of experience in corporate and commercial matters and in resolving commercial disputes. Mr. Lee was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in Ontario in 1992. He became a partner of Metcalfe, Blainey & Burns in the same year. He is now the firm's managing partner and oversees the following areas of services: real estate law, trust law, offshore trust, business law, corporate law, immigration law and civil litigation. Mr. Lee and his team handles many complex issues involving immigration related investment, utilizing his skill in the areas of corporate, business and immigration laws, giving his clients a solid foundation to invest in Canada. His skills include problem solving and protecting his clients in the event of a dispute, thus giving his clients' peace of mind and usually with favorable result to clients in many negotiations. Mr. Lee is fluent in Chinese and English. His record of services in the community is impressive and, due to his outstanding performance in the legal profession, he has been invited to sit on a number of Boards and has served as honorary legal advisor to a number of non-profit or charitable organizations and associations.
