CAPITOL

  • ID: 11963261/134
Provenance: On November 7, 1888, Capitol building officials awarded the original wood furnishings contract to A. H. Andrews and Company of Chicago, one of the largest dealers in the United States at that time. This piece was acquired by the present owner in late 1980 from the executrix of the estate of a deceased elderly retired longtime employee in the Capitol, which was just three blocks from her home. It was being used as a storage/utility cabinet on a service porch. It is most likely that the deceased acquired the piece at a disposition of surplus Capitol furniture, which was not uncommon many, many years ago... This magnificent stately Texas Capitol original furniture wardrobe cabinet is ultimate Texana that is rarely, if ever, offered for sale. Over the past one hundred eleven years, the piece has become a valuable historic relic of the most beloved building in Texas, The Capitol.
