In 1981, RYCO founder, Bob Ryan, patented his first machine. With the change of the fishing industry it was clear that the mass production of seafood was in dire need of innovative equipment. As a professional engineer, Bob Ryan designed the #638 Salmon Gutter (now the #645 Salmon Gutter). After seeing the success of the #638 machine he went on to design the #231 Fish Header, #659 Pinboner, #830 Bulk Weigh, #656 Filleter, #260 Crab Butcher and many more innovative machines to assist in the streamlining of food production. RYCO machines quickly took over the fish production industry and by 1990 the redesigned #643 Salmon Gutter became the industry standard salmon cleaning machine for a decade with hundreds of machines sold in North America, Europe, Japan and Russia.
