Edward Selig, the founding Principal of Texas Energy Research Associates, Inc, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Texas at Austin (1975) and a Master of Arts degree from The University of Texas at Austin (1976). Mr. Selig, born and raised in El Paso, Texas, has cultivated a continuing interest in statewide environmental issues and has developed a deep understanding of energy and environmental policy issues for over 35 years as a policy analyst.
For almost 30 years, Mr. Selig has worked closely with radioactive material licensees as they have attempted to identify a solution to the radioactive waste disposal issue. In 1994, the Advocates for Responsible Disposal in Texas (ARDT) (www.ardt.org) was established with Mr. Selig named as its General Manager. The purpose of ARDT is to support the State of Texas' efforts to identify, evaluate and after through public input, establish a system that will ultimately manage and provide permanent disposal of low-level radioactive waste. These ideals have evolved into the following goals of the group: to provide the public, decision-makers, educators, scientists, and physicians with information about the need for and merits of a system for managing the waste safely and developing a facility for permanent disposal; to provide a forum through which the advocates of such a system and facility can demonstrate their support.
Mr. Selig founded the Center for Responsible Environmental Strategies (CRES) (www.crescentral.org) in the year 2000 as a 501(c) (3) non-profit educational organization. The Center's mission is to bring an awareness of environmental issues to the public and to provide opportunities to seek innovative strategies that result in a cleaner environment. In 2006, Mr. Selig was invited to join the Board of Directors of the Texas Environmental Education Partnership (TEEP) (www.texaseepartners.org) a statewide coalition focused on building and supporting a framework for environmental education for Texas. The Partnership includes representatives from business and industry, the environmental community, academia, governmental agencies, school teachers and administrators, and parents.
